I know that Arctico will very likely be the most beautiful game I ever create because I will never have the energy and naivety of an 18 year old about to give a decade of his life to a project again. Today Arctico reached 400k units sold!

Overview of why I don't recommend it This review will go into detail on my personal issues with the worldbuilding and more - if you want to experience this game without knowing how the world is built and what the game offers/not offers in detail, I recommend to skip this review. It wasn't an easy decision to set this review to not recommended. Although I did play the game for many hours (as you can see); I didn't enjoy playing it most of my time. The game has a great fundament, but it still…

I really wanted to like this one but the overall quality here is unbelievably sloppy - from basic attention to detail like grammar, to the iconography, to the UI design, to save/load times, to the music, to the writing, to the design of the mechanics. It's all just very bad. The core idea of Subnautica in the Arctic with a team of sled dogs is wonderful, but unfortunately this team just does not have the juice.

This is easy one of the most relaxing games I have ever played. I do understand though, why it doesn't work for everybody. Arctico sends you on the path of your research mentor. It doesn't tell you were to go or really, what to do, apart from finding the research your mentor left behind. You are alone with your four seldgedogs on... I dunno? An icy island? Someplace. Where - as you explore - apparently people did life. Or shipwrecked. Or decided to shipwreck. Nobody lives here, but it gives a…

This seems to be a really promising prototype/alpha that, if I were the devs, I'd take to an actual studio, where they'd be able to put in animations, polish gameplay, and test for bugs. This game NEEDS these things and it's unusual to ever be reminded why. I'll be completely real with you, I was bored ♥♥♥♥-less. I also saw that Artico came out in 2022, and as of writing this review, its currently now halfway through 2026. That's 4 and a half years to put animations onto the tools, polish the…

My friend hosts our world and every time he saves and quits then loads the lobby back up I lose the last 15-20 minutes of MY gameplay. Even when I click save it doesn't work. I saw a recent post from the developers on Reddit and left a comment there with no response, same with no response in the Steam discussion board. If I can get my problem fixed I'm willing to give it another shot, I WANT to like this game, but not being able to ever save my progress in co-op makes this unplayable.…

This game, as many others have said, has a BOATLOAD of missed potential. The game would be very good if it was only a building game, or only a story game. It fails to mash these two genres together in a way that is just entirely frustrating to play through. --------------------------------------------------- First up, I want to talk about the building system. It seems really half-baked and needs a ton of work as you can't build most basic components when you first start, which the game uses…

Artico is a decent and relaxing game, but it’s clearly a small-scale project. The graphics are pretty weak and simple, and the whole experience lasts only a couple of hours. Still, exploring the open world is actually enjoyable, and traveling across the icy landscape has its own charm. The core idea of the game is very good and has real potential. With a bigger budget and more content, this concept could turn into something much deeper and more impressive. As it is now, Artico feels modest…

the game overall is good, the map is huge, the vibe is great, especially with friends. BUT they have got to tweak the rate of hunger for you and the dogs, add more fishing spots increase the amount of fish that get per hole. i played with two other people and we were just going back and fourth from fishing hole to fishing hole, then going back to base and not exploring the map like we all wanted too. This is a chill game with an exploration-based story-telling element. Two modes, one (Survival) is slightly more difficult, but nowhere near the level of struggle of other survival games (thus still making it a calm experience). The pluses: I enjoy a relaxing survival game where I'm not pressed for time (outside minor elements), and can explore and build at my own pace. Having a dog sled for navigation was cute, and I definitely named the pups lovingly. Art style is pleasant, and the…

I would not recommend this game due to its extremely slow pace. I had fun in the beginning, thinking it was some sort of story game, searching throughout the map and finding small notes. However, there is no story, plot, or ANY sort of interactive campaign in the game. I would only play this game again if they significantly made the progression easier. I've played this game for 3 hours and I've only gotten 3 buildings. Each building quite literally has no purpose. The game has potential but as…

Lovely literally chill game about being a lone researcher in the Arctic. There's a huge map to explore and a lot of objects to collect and build, but all very slowly, calmly, and quietly. Trek long distances in a beautiful empty snowscape and stumble upon surreal structures with gorgeous fragments of texts left behind by lonely people, and, yes, pet your 4 dogs. Just very unique, poetic, dreamy vibes. (Also on Itch, but I think that version doesn't have the latest updates and eg fast-travel…

This is an exploration game, but exploration is very shallow and bare bones. You can access basically the entire island from the get go with no real obstacles to overcome, and each explorable point of interest has approximately 30 seconds of investigation to do. What you cannot access from the get go requires many hours of "gameplay" that is uninteresting make-number-go-up loops. You put down a large number of solar or wind generators to make power. You use that power to get large quantities of…

Not much of a game here, it`s a glorified walking simulator that is also objectively a super tedious time waster. Grindy for no reason other than to be grindy if you wanna do anything and there`s almost nothing to do. The tutorial is the most engaging part of the game. It`s an empty world with a handful of locations thrown around for you to explore and then to grind your heart out on the achievements that are currently in game. Speaking of which, this used to be a completely different type of…

It has a lot of potential but at the present moment...the mechanics of the game are wonky, weird glitches such as the dogs spawning in the sky, and the fact that you walk so SLOW and the dogs are almost just as slow is so tedious and frustrating to maneuver, it isn't worth the effort. The game doesn't explain what you need to do and throws a bunch of stuff at you that you CAN do but you have no true desire to do so -- and there is shared inventory with friends, so if one person uses energy, you…

For an arctic island, I expected very little to explore and I was very wrong. There are a lot of landmarks, a surprizingly large map, simple relaxing soundtrack, farming, crafting, base building and secrets i do not want to spoil. The vibe is relaxing but a little melancholic, perfect for a calm evening. Perhaps a small in-game text guide would be nice to have in the character's device so the player could refer to for tips. Boring. The sled moves so slow, the landscape you traverse is very bland (well, it's the arctic so that's justified), and it feels like there is nothing of interest to do. Like sure, you can build and plant and fish, feed the dogs, but everything feels a bit pointless? Speaking of dogs - you can name them yourself, but they look identical - exact same fur pattern, just in slightly different shades. Worst of all however are the notes you can find scattered - the most trite, pseudo-poetic,…

The game is only worth it when heavily discounted (I got it 80% discounted). It's not playable with the controller, unless you want to move the mouse cursor with your controller, what is a hell. Yes, the developer said in 2020 that the controller support was planned, and that's what we got. The game is only playable in English. Translations are awful. First things first, I named my sled-dogs Svanna, Svetlana, Angrboda, and Torbin- and they are the best doggos! The most striking feature of this game is the map- it's a large nearly flat snow-covered island of tundra, not that you'll see much grass; that makes all the landmarks features easy to see at long distances. It's no mystery that the primary gameplay loop is making your way over ice floes and past deep water to reach any and every landmark you can find. These are where you find the…

Not worth it — poor UI and confusing from the start Within the first few minutes, it was clear the game does a poor job of getting you started. The guidance is minimal and leaves you guessing what you're supposed to do, which makes the early experience frustrating rather than engaging. The UI doesn't help either — it feels unintuitive and gets in the way rather than supporting the gameplay. For a game that should be easing you in, it fails at the basics. Not recommended. It's not very good. Basic, taped together, lacking in a lot of basic quality of life, UI, or even really a sense of enjoyability. All content is sort of awkward to interact with and doesn't even really improve with friends, if anything it somehow gets worse. This is a pretty calming game to play. Relaxing music and a simple premise makes this a game feel more like a mind clearing session rather than a game. Add in the interesting locations and pieces of story literally scattered about and you got something charming and to the point. Then for me, the added bonus of naming the dogs is a plus since my family has dogs so it's funny and happy to see those names on the virtual dogs. I would recommend the game.
