The series proved popular with viewers and critics alike. Daily Mirror called it "a grief comedy". Jen Pharo wrote: "Diane [Morgan] was inspired to write the series after reading about robot carers in Japan and also by her own mum. ... Ann Droid has lots of laughs and lots of heart." Rachel Aroesti of The Guardian wrote: "Ann Droid is worth raving about on its own terms – it’s rambunctiously funny and exceptionally poignant ... I cried at least once per episode. ... In less capable hands, Ann Droid’s dramatic arc could have been a tough sell. Set a handful of years into the future, it sees many frightening predictions around AI come true: robots are decimating the job market, and Sue’s son…

60 of 154 · most liked first& so to the last “Ann Droid”. It wasn’t a series I was interested in. I was so wrong. I can’t recommend it enough. A near-future scifi sitcom that’s beautifully written & performed, it’s both funny & profoundly touching. The best comedy of the year so far. My fav scfi of 2026 too. Crikey.
positive · AI labelView post →Even Ann Droid has a little of this, but it's salvaged by the heart of the show being Sue and Linda becoming friends and making each other better people. It feels like it's rare to see in a hit comedy show or film.
positive · AI labelView post →I saw an interview with Diane Morgan where she was promoting her new show Ann Droid and the host asked about Alley Cats and she was like "oh you know... it's about these... cats... having adventures..."
neutral · AI labelView post →In "One good thing about AI news" news, Diane Morgan and Sarah Kendall's BBC1 comedy Ann Droid has been recommissioned for a second series
neutral · AI labelView post →It feels like everyone's been sleeping on Ann Droid. Fucking hilarious show.
positive · AI labelView post →The thing that helps make a TV programme great is when its not quite like anything you've seen before.... and having now watched the whole series of Ann Dorid, it is that thing. It balances both humour & compassion about loneliness in old age, and the fickleness of families; Its a comedy tour-de-force with a real understanding of the plight of those in their latter years. I cannot recommend it highly enough - just brilliant! #AnnDroid #humour #TV #technology…

neutral · AI labelView post →Is the majority of my newsletter audience American? Yes. Is that going to stop me from raving about Diane Morgan's new BBC-exclusive sitcom, Ann Droid? No. Will you at least click if I tell you it has a banger supporting turn from Andor's mom from hell Eedy Karn, Kathryn Hunter herself? I dunno!
positive · AI labelView post →Binge watched 'Ann Droid'. Didn't know I was going to binge watch, it was that good. Diane Morgan's performance is sublime. A funny, melancholy, heartwarming gem of a show. Only change I'd make: cut half of the son's scenes and give them to the other (funnier and non-loathsome) characters.
positive · AI labelView post →The boy and I always choose a no brain required show to watch together at night. Weve moved on to Ann Droid on the bbc and the absolute *cackle* I let out at the charity shop being full of Richard Osman books could be heard across the forth. There have been some quiet zingers in that show.
positive · AI labelView post →I went to a BBC event recently where they showed the first episode of Ann Droid. I left kind of hoping the first episode wasn’t emblematic of the series, but having now watched it, I can confirm that it is not funny at all.
negative · AI labelView post →BBC confirm they are working on an Ann Droid series Two! Two! Two!
neutral · AI labelView post →I have nothing new to add this week. I did watch Ann Droid, mentioned last week, which was fun. 🤖 Finished a rewatch of s2 of Silo because when I tried to jump straight into s3 I felt lost! 😆 Oh, and almost finished a rewatch of s1 of Wolf Hall, before watching s2 for the first time soon!
positive · AI labelView post →Just watched Ann Droid. Lots of Isaac Asimov’s I Robot vibes. Funny and very touching with two brilliant comic actresses. This is what the BBC is good at. www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...
positive · AI labelView post →Just watched Ann Droid on BBC iPlayer. Heartwarming and hilarious, but rooted in something bigger: human emotion, dignity, and love. Intelligence isn't empathy, automation isn't care. #DianeMorgan and #SarahKendall get it spot on. Sue Johnston is genius casting. 🤖 www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...
positive · AI labelView post →I binge watched Ann Droid on BBC. It’s absolutely brilliant. Hope there’s a second series.
positive · AI labelView post →Anyone see the marvellous Ann Droid on the Beeb recently? If you binge-watched the whole series on iPlayer like me, you'll recognise the sex bot. Part of Elon's deal with King Donald the Mad?
positive · AI labelView post →With Amandaland, Ann Droid and this BBC is doing pretty well on the sitcom front at the moment. beyondthejoke.co.uk/content/1784...
neutral · AI labelView post →Ann Droid has been renewed for series 2!!
neutral · AI labelView post →I'm on episode 4 of Ann Droid and it's brilliant but the character of Michael is physically painful to watch. The show should come with a warning for middle-aged men.
positive · AI labelView post →Good evening..Starting on the brand new series Ann Droid.. featuring some of my faves Diane Morgan, Sue Johnston, Paul Ready and I already know I'll love it.. cheers ears 🍷🍷

neutral · AI labelView post →Ann Droid was fabulous, although I'm hoping there's less of the son in the next series.
positive · AI labelView post →Was that the pilot episode of the 'Ann Droid' tv series ?
neutral · AI labelView post →Hi, me again. I’ve just watched the first two episodes of Ann Droid on BBCiPlayer. It is laugh out loud funny. www.justwatch.com/uk/tv-series...
positive · AI labelView post →If you loved Diane Morgan as Philomena Cunk then look for Ann Droid a British comedy series created, written by and starring Morgan as an outdated robot providing care and companionship for the elderly... Have you watched this... Yay or Nay? #AnnDroid #tvsky becomingthemuse.net/2026/08/16/a...
neutral · AI labelView post →Discovered half my friends on this trip have watched Ann Droid so I can freely quote/stim one liners from the show 😁😁
positive · AI labelView post →Finished Ann Droid this evening. It's had mixed reviews; the son is not credible, and some of the supporting cast are a cartoonish. However. The central relationship between Sue Johnston and Diane Morgan is MAGNIFICENT. I really want to see a second series please. They both excel. Persevere.
positive · AI labelView post →Ann Droid is a lovely show about an old woman and I think autistic niece? Anyway, I'm having a fun time watching it
positive · AI labelView post →Watching Ann Droid, and it's really rather lovely. There's a bit in Ep 4 where Sue Johnston says, "Sit down, Linda" which had me howling, and one in ep 5 where Linda says, "Did it have a government and judiciary?" which did likewise. Not quite sure what the message of the series is. AI is OK?*
positive · AI labelView post →There is a new BBC show called Ann Droid that stars Diana Morgan as a robot and I have to ask: Is this real? (There is also a new BBC show called Parenthood; it is an Attenborough doco about baby animals) (I am too Sunday for this to be real)
neutral · AI labelView post →Loved Ann Droid. Diane Morgan nailed it. Hopefully there will be a 2nd series. 😀
positive · AI labelView post →Finished up Ann Droid - what a lovely little show!
positive · AI labelView post →I just binged Ann Droid on BBC iPlayer and absolutely loved it. Wholesome, funny, emotional. Just a perfect series.
positive · AI labelView post →Ann Droid is an absolute gem of show. Funny, clever, a little silly, incredibly humane and charming. Watch it if you haven't already.
positive · AI labelView post →Yesterday I binge-watched the first series (please make another!) of Ann Droid. It’s wonderful: such good, funny telly. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...
positive · AI labelView post →Or there's been substantial budget cuts for series 2 of Ann Droid
neutral · AI labelView post →I'm in love with the show Ann Droid. Took me forever to figure out that was Philomena Cuck, and Miss Denker from Downton Abbey.
positive · AI labelView post →Have they commissioned a second series of Ann Droid because the cast are good, or because the show is good? The trailers were so clunkingly poor I didn't watch it. But on those grounds I would not have watched SNL:UK and that would have been a mistake.
neutral · AI labelView post →@cupofteasocial #mugshot Good morning lovely people 💕💕 Happy Saturday to you all 😁 Yesterday was another lazy one, we toyed with the idea of going out for lunch but decided against it in favour of Pizza 🍕 for tea! We had a warm sunny day, and I finished the last two #ChelseaFlower motif. We watched the last episode of #TipToe last night, wow what an amazing series!! Also watched the last episode of #AnnDroid another excellent watch!! I'm in the charity shop this afternoon! Sending massive…
neutral · AI labelView post →The second series of Ann Droid looks interesting
neutral · AI labelView post →Why is the series called Ann Droid? I know it features an android, but that android is called Linda.
neutral · AI labelView post →That Ann Droid show is actually pretty good. Overly sentimental sure, but pretty funny nonetheless
positive · AI labelView post →Oh my god same! I love Philomena Cunk. There's a new show called Ann Droid and I'd love to see it!

neutral · AI labelView post →I reluctantly watched Ann Droid. But it wasn't what I was expecting based on the image advertising the programme. SO much better. For a start, the droid is called Linda. Anyway, I binged the whole series and enjoyed it
positive · AI labelView post →I know a few people haven’t been keen on the new BBC series Ann Droid but honestly it has Kathryn Hunter in it so I’m hooked. youtu.be/8VAXElyAJyg?...

It's funny of course, but deeply touching and with a sharp, respectful eye on what it is to age. Diane Morgan has never put a foot wrong."
