But 5 years ago I wrote why Roman Polanski’s film based on Robert Harris’s “An Officer and a Spy”, about the Dreyfus Affair, should not be screened in this country. I still firmly believe that. www.thejc.com/lets-talk/wh...

Although, I personally couldn't understand why he decided to rejoin the army after such a huge debacle on their side. The movie didn't explore this point at all.

unlabelledView post →Yes, same here. I go to the internet to fill in details. An Officer and a Spy has also been made into a great film - Prime Video. If you haven’t read Enigma - on the Bletchley Park uncovering of the enigma code, it’s also great.

unlabelledView post →I see that Roman Polanski (unfortunately) put out a film depicting the Dreyfus Affair, called An Officer and a Spy (2019). Haven’t seen it, so no idea if it’s any good.
unlabelledView post →#UAW local opposes US screening of director #RomanPolanski’s An Officer and a Spy because its director pled guilty to sex with a minor 48 years ago, although #MeToo demands "Believe women!" and the victim stated in 2008 she opposes further punishment. A film needed today www.wsws.org/en/articles/...
unlabelledView post →The UAW's objection to the screening of Roman Polanski's "An Officer and a Spy" was a reprehensible, #MeToo-oriented attempt to suppress a film with burning contemporary relevance at a time of outrageous lies & far-right conspiracies. www.wsws.org/en/articles/...

unlabelledView post →Good point, giving movie watching an extra value👍(schoolteacher speaking😉). Actually, my son also likes historical themes, and we both loved "An Officer and a Spy" on the Dreyfus Affair very much. And Eastwood´s two-movie epic on Iwo Jima too, although this, again, is pretty violent.🫣⬅️me watching it

unlabelledView post →In the Polanski (sorry) film AN OFFICER AND A SPY, a few decorated generals threaten to resign their commissions, which is interpreted as a threat of sedition - denying their country their service to national security being tantamount to sabotage/treason. I'd say that's a risk worth taking.
unlabelledView post →Agreed on the ending. Not needed. (But then I do think Robert Harris is a bit overrated; except An Officer and a Spy (the film of which is hard to find))
