Developer The Chinese Room
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is a 2013 survival horror game developed by The Chinese Room and published by Frictional Games. While set in the same universe as the previous game, it features a new cast of characters and time setting. Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

unlabelledView post →Despite the lukewarm reception over the years, I ended up enjoying Amnesia A Machine for Pigs far more than I expected almost as much as the original Dark Descent, just in a different way. It shares a lot of the same narrative DNA you play as someone with a fractured memory, slowly uncovering a dark, tangled past that links you directly to the main antagonist. Instead of the medieval and Victorian occult atmosphere of the first game, this one leans heavily into a grimy, oppressive steampunk…

unlabelledView post →Definitely a lot shorter than both The Dark Descent and Rebirth, and definitely feels the weakest out of the series, however I still did enjoy it but there are a couple of issues I have with this game. First of all, the game is very short, usually only taking 3-5 hours to complete for its price, and the main function and purpose of the series, which is the sanity mechanic is removed from this game, which defeats the entire purpose of the series and if it were added, it could definitely be much…

unlabelledView post →It’s a very good game. Don’t let the people in the comments complaining about “Where are the chase monsters?” and “Why did they remove the sanity mechanic?” convince you that this game is just a walking simulator. The story genuinely rivals the one from The Dark Descent, and might even be better. The environments and atmosphere are what really make this game so great. You don’t need a monster chasing you around every corner when every corner is already scary enough to make you break a sweat.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Barely a horror “game,” but a really good story if you’re into that Game gets hard carried by the atmosphere and the story. Gameplay-wise, it’s very stripped down—puzzles are simple and there’s barely any real challenge, so if you’re expecting something like The Dark Descent, you might be disappointed. But if you treat it more like an interactive story with strong atmosphere, it’s definitely worth experiencing.

unlabelledView post →Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs feels (and plays) like one of those weird sequels. As we begin playing we immediately notice that it's not the work of the creators of the amazing [url=steamcommunity.com/id/atisz2/recommended/57300]Amnesia: The Dark Descent (it was meant to be a modification initially) and while the core mechanics are (almost) the same everything just seems off, not exactly what one expected. According to this, it's advisable to lower our expectations, as the game is both shorter…

unlabelledView post →The worst Amnesia by far This is a plot-driven horror game that doesn't scare you in the slightest and has a highly predictable story. Gameplay-wise it's boring as hell. Apart from the scripted encounters with monsters, A Machine for Pigs plays like your everyday interactive movie. There's no survival horror elements and interesting mechanics like inventory or sanity from other Amnesia entries. And the encounters with monsters are heavily scripted as well. Not once through the entire game…

unlabelledView post →I was enjoying the story of this game, despite it's differences to the first game's gameplay. It has far simpler puzzles, which were already dead easy in the first game, and basically no survival elements at all. Looking past that, the story is intriguing and doesn't explain itself all at once or in a linear order, giving you plenty of time to put things together and think- Which is probably why some people don't like the way the story is presented. While it isn't spoonfed to you, if you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and that is what makes it good. This game lacks the lantern needing fluid, the sanity mechanics, the darkness, all of that. but, it still works. The reason people write off A Machine For Pigs is because it lacks what the first game had, but they remain blind to this game's true potential. It is not Amnesia: The Dark Descent two. It does not one-up the previous game, or make it worse/better by comparison. It is a custom story turned into a full game,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate this game. The inventory system, sanity management and a degree of interactivity with the world have all been removed. Most objects can't be moved, most doors are locked. It constantly crashes during loading screens (which resumes the save at the beginning of the prior chapter). Performance is awful. Every time the player character is feeling crazy there is this blurry effect that has not failed to give me a headache. I also don't think I've actually been in danger once this game, which…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really don't understand the hate, it's a good game. Creepy and great atmosphere. Although the game definitely stretches closer to the end. Rating after 3,6 hours: 8/10 Rating after beating the game: 7.5/10

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amnesia: A Machine for Pig was…fine. Not terrible, not amazing, just kind of standing in the corner breathing heavily like it wants to scare me but forgot its lines. The game has a good setup and a really strong atmosphere. The environments are creepy, detailed, and definitely carry that classic "Amnesia" franchise energy. You can tell it’s trying to build something disturbing and memorable. The problem is, after playing it with breaks in between, I started to feel less like “I need to survive…
