60 of 219 · most liked firstWhether you were a fan of AMERICAN FICTION or not, Cord Jefferson made a very good point about why they don’t make 10 $20 million movies instead of one $200 million movie. It seems to me that might help theaters, too. “OH GOD WE ARE DEPENDENT ON BLOCKBUSTERS TO SURVIVE” is a path to a grim future.
unlabelledView post →American Fiction was excellent. Such a great screenplay and just the overall energy of the film was solid. Zone of Interest was HAUNTING. I am still thinking about it; a masterful film.
unlabelledView post →Cord Jefferson's debut movie AMERICAN FICTION is about the perils of ~diversity~ in the publishing industry? Starring Jeffrey Wright?! Easiest day one ticket in my life. I'm already writing a hyperbolic review of it in my head www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0Mb...
unlabelledView post →Check this review of AMERICAN FICTION the film adaptation of Percival Everett's novel ERASURE that's out now by our very own dear @elmcitytree.bsky.social ! It will make you feel like you're dying to see the movie even more. newrepublic.com/article/1771...
unlabelledView post →on a lighter note, I think the best movie I watched this year - or at least the one I remember, which just bolsters the point - was American Fiction
unlabelledView post →My review of American Fiction—the best movie of the year IMHO—is up!
unlabelledView post →"American Fiction" is a fascinating film. So nuanced on race it makes most explorations of the subject seem like baby talk, but also nuanced on aging, LGBTQ, and family dynamics. A surprisingly quiet movie full of solid moments of human truth.
unlabelledView post →Movie recs, to recap... Highly recommend The Holdovers as the kind of holiday movie that will appeal to almost everyone. American Fiction for those who want pointed commentary about book culture but also a warm family story, ultimately, with great characters and acting. 1/2
unlabelledView post →This, like his film “American Fiction”, is very good.
unlabelledView post →Just finished the film American Fiction. It was FANTASTIC!! THIS is the type of cinema I want. I screamed with laughter so many times, 😁. Soooo good! So smart. Such bite. Excellent cast. Great writing. Also, writers (and everyone else), go see it.
unlabelledView post →American Fiction is such an extraordinary movie.
unlabelledView post →have not streamed American Fiction (is that what it’s called? The Oscar bait by cord Jefferson) because even tho I think I’d enjoy the movie and like cord’s work, I am convinced that if you enjoy the movie, you are the film’s core target for brutal satire and I shan’t be owned, Cord Jefferson
unlabelledView post →Cord Jefferson’s ‘American Fiction’ (2023) is now available to watch for free (with ads) on Tubi and YouTube. The film stars Jeffrey Wright, Tracee Ellis Ross, Erika Alexander, Issa Rae, and Sterling K. Brown. 🔗: (youtu.be/2e33N6CA73Q)
unlabelledView post →OK, so AMERICAN FICTION is a perfect movie, and one of those rare films that accurately portrays writers/the literary world. So funny and so mean. 💖Percival Everett
unlabelledView post →Hey #Minneapolis folks, the Capri Theater is a local gem, “American Fiction” is a fine movie and the screenwriter will be there for a Q&A after the showing tomorrow night. Go and make me envious (I have a conflict)! mspfilm.org/show/capri-f...
unlabelledView post →Saludos a toda la buena gente de Brasil🇧🇷 I’m a professor of literature at the City University of New York who writes on popular culture. I have a big review coming soon but for now here’s a piece I did on the film American Fiction newrepublic.com/article/1771...
unlabelledView post →'American Fiction' screenplay arrived in the post. I've wanted to read this since I saw the movie.
unlabelledView post →Cord Jefferson wins the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for American Fiction. Gave a great speech about how difficult it was to get the film made and the importance of taking chances on folks like him: "I understand that this is a risk averse industry, but $200MM movies are also a risk." #oscars
unlabelledView post →“Nobody in Hollywood reads. They get their assistants to read things and then summarize them. The whole town runs on book reports.” -American Fiction So damn good. I've loved the novel for 20 years, and now I love the movie.
unlabelledView post →After Tom died, I discovered a note in which he'd written that American Fiction was the best new film he'd seen in a very long time. So to see Michael B Jordan win an Oscar tonight, and for him to thank the people watching at home who'd supported his career, was 😭 Congratulations! 2/2
unlabelledView post →Percival Everett's 2001 novel ERASURE, the book that became the 2023 film AMERICAN FICTION, is a note-perfect satire and a profound character study of a man facing crises in his family. it's just so ... important. My review: bit.ly/3R0dWdn
unlabelledView post →I saw in the trailer there was a movie about Black Bostonians & immediately went to see it… That film was “American Fiction”. Some of the best money I spent so far in 2024.
unlabelledView post →so uh AMERICAN FICTION looks good but, uh. does anyone remember BAMBOOZLED. has that movie just gotten completely memory holed at this point
unlabelledView post →#AlphabetTitleChallenge 📚🖋️📚💙📚 Not only is this an excellent & essential re-telling of Jim’s story, it opened up the entire world of Percival Everett for me. Also love The Trees & Erasure AND the film adaptation American Fiction ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
unlabelledView post →I still think the opening scene of American Fiction is one of the best film openers of all time www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UkZ...
unlabelledView post →I happen to be writing my dissertation on the idea of "potential" in education. a quote that I came across, from American Fiction, a movie I have yet to watch: "Potential is what people see when they think what’s in front of them isn’t good enough."
unlabelledView post →So my friend forced me to watch American Fiction and wow, what a cast. Jeffrey Wright, Sterling Brown, Erika Alexander, Issa Rae, very good film.
unlabelledView post →I'm Black, and I published a book this year, so it was an honor (and a little cathartic) talking about AMERICAN FICTION on The Filmcast with @davechen.bsky.social @devindra.bsky.social and Jeff Cannata. Check it out! audioboom.com/posts/841923...
unlabelledView post →I saw the film American Fiction without realising until afterwards that it was based on a novel by Percival Everett. Started the novel this morning. Goodness I love his writing. Early days, trying to push the film out of my mind! #BookSky
unlabelledView post →It’s time for AMERICAN FICTION and looking at triple hot Jeffrey Wright for two hours and watching people talk about novels. My perfect movie.
unlabelledView post →Watch the movie "American Fiction", it's great.
unlabelledView post →So my daughter recommended the film “American Fiction”. Dunno how I missed it but glad she helped me to find it. Helluva film. Hilarious and deadly satirical.
unlabelledView post →Y'ALL. I'm so excited to be a part of a Black History Month panel discussing the movie American Fiction at the @lfpl.bsky.social Main Branch on Feb. 2. Reserve your spot so we can get yapping about this movie:
unlabelledView post →Cord Jefferson's directorial debut AMERICAN FICTION tells the story of a Black novelist who finds fame and fortune after writing a book under a pseudonym. Hysterically funny, thought-provoking satire about society's fixation on stereotypes. Jeffrey Wright is spectacular. Highly recommend. 📽️ #filmsky
unlabelledView post →AMERICAN FICTION - directed by Cord Jefferson I'd enjoyed Percival Everett's book Erasure (on which the film is based) but in a rare instance, the film might be even better; supremely uncomfortable, deeply funny.
unlabelledView post →"White people say they want the truth but they just want to feel absolved." Watched American Fiction. Great movie. Razor sharp, hilarious - excruciatingly so if you work in publishing.
unlabelledView post →I have seen two Best Movie nominees in 24 hours, one I loved (American Fiction) & one I loathed (The Zone of Interest). This is my movie report.
unlabelledView post →I've seen so few!!! 2020: Good Lord Bird (show, but even so. If I gotta pick a movie, Wolfwalkers?) 2021: The Dig 2022: Northman 2023: Nothing? I guess the Holdovers? Maybe American Fiction? Neither is a "favorite." 2024: The Return 2025: Weapons Two Ralph Fiennes movies! Not bad, Ralph.
unlabelledView post →Loved AMERICAN FICTION! It's on Prime. Go watch it. 🎥 #filmsky
unlabelledView post →Watched American Fiction and liked it a lot. But it did make me realize that we as a nation need a movie where Jeffrey Wright and Paul Giamatti play academic rivals who let some pissy little committee dispute escalate to ridiculous proportions
unlabelledView post →I had Lovecraft Country-levels of distaste for American Fiction, a movie that uses an excellent cast to give comfort to white liberals and bougie Black folks.
unlabelledView post →Writer friends! Make sure to watch American Fiction which, apart from being brilliantly funny, is the most cuttingly accurate film about writing in decades. cc @crobertcargill.bsky.social @evnarc.bsky.social www.austinchronicle.com/events/film/...
unlabelledView post →Return Flight Airplane movies! American Fiction - Excellent and relatable by all writers Jurassic World Rebirth - The only Jurassic Park film I have seen other than the first one. Garbage. Downtown Abby - Brilliant and perfect Ratatouille - Best film to watch coming home from Paris
unlabelledView post →I know the new Lower Decks is out but I’m still digesting American Fiction and trying to figure out the meta of it. How’s the book? anybody read the book after the movie?
unlabelledView post →American Fiction and The Holdovers are both movies that make watching a movie a squirm-level event. They’re Harold and Maude and The Graduate and Jim et Jules and In the Mood for Love and Rear Window. How did we land them both just this year?
unlabelledView post →I decided I wanted to see a movie, tried to look up where I could see American Fiction, and there is literally one theater in Toronto
unlabelledView post →visiting my parents & wow I just love that there are like five places where we could go see Poor Things (a movie I would not go see w my family if the fate of humanity depended on it) & zero where we can go see American Fiction (a movie basically made in a lab to go see w family over a holiday)
unlabelledView post →I know it doesn't need it, but I wish there could be a sequel to AMERICAN FICTION. I just want to live in that world forever. Hands down my fave film of 2023.
unlabelledView post →His Erasure (basis of the movie American Fiction) is -amazing-, imo

unlabelledView post →Tonight's treadmill TV was the film American Fiction, which so enthralled me I actually watched the entire thing at once rather than splitting it up the way I normally do with my treadmill movies and TV whenever I feel I've had enough stepping. I was impressed.
unlabelledView post →Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie received no nominations. But Ryan Gosling did? Wow. Its like the Barbie movie come to life. Besides that, Im excited about many of the nominees. Especially the love for American Fiction & Past Lives. And El Conde!!
unlabelledView post →American Fiction was very enjoyable (film reviews from 2023)
unlabelledView post →Today's movie recommendation is "American Fiction", a sharp satire starring Jeffrey Wright & Issa Rae. "A frustrated novelist, fed up with the establishment profiting from "Black" entertainment that relies on tired & offensive tropes, uses a pen name to write his own outlandish book." #Movies

unlabelledView post →📽️ Now Watching 🎥🍿🎟️ AMERICAN FICTION #movie Been excited for this one. It'll be nice to see Mr. Wright again, I've missed seeing him in Westworld. And the rest of the cast are all fantastic, too.
unlabelledView post →My last four watched In American Fiction, Jeffrey Wright is supposed to be a niche author who hasn't published in years. Yet when he goes to a chain bookstore, they have multiple copies of several of his novels *IN HARDBACK*. What planet does this film take place on? Because it sure ain't Earth.
unlabelledView post →Went to the Middleburg Film Festival this weekend and was blown away by AMERICAN FICTION, adapted and directed by Cord Jefferson. Not out until December but add it to your list of things to see in the near future.
