Aguirre, the Wrath of God
A few decades after the destruction of the Inca Empire, a Spanish expedition led by the infamous Aguirre leaves the mountains of Peru and goes down the Amazon River in search of the lost city of El Dorado. When great difficulties arise, Aguirre’s men start to wonder whether their quest will lead them to prosperity or certain death. From TMDB

60 of 145 · most liked firstAguirre, the Wrath of God is one of the few movies I had to see again the next night. Klaus Kinksi is perfect and the fact Herzog managed to hold this mad movie together is remarkable. Happy birthday to its writer/director, Werner Herzog. (yes, the poster is in my hallway)

Klaus Kinski goes mad as Spanish explorers carry on the jungle. 5/5 film-authority.com/2025/08/25/a...

neutral · AI labelView post →For how eventful the production of this movie'd been I expected Aguirre, the Wrath of God to be equally intense, if not more. The final movie turned out to be much more subdued, almost laid-back, if not for the themes of greed, hubris and colonialism on display. Klaus Kinski looked as mean as ever.

You could write a great college or high school paper talking about justice, discipline, social structures, power, subcultures, etc. If you're into film technique, the way this movie uses sounds, silences, and setting is masterful. An action/thriller that also makes you think.
