Carpenter said "I wanted to remake Rio Bravo so I made ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13" and we were all "Fuck yeah, you did!" Who cares if he was inspired; he made a very different movie.

unlabelledView post →I see the lively debate in your replies, which gives me an excuse to mention a delightful factoid. John Carpenter was so grateful for the success of ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 in the UK that he named a character in his next movie after the head of Miracle Films, which distributed it: Michael Myers.

Film brilliance aside, this has to be one of his best themes too — 70s synthwave minimalism which he wrote in 3 days. #filmsky

unlabelledView post →the remake of Assault on Precinct 13 is worse in that it lost its western feel but the twist is good. I guess my issue is that it’s a B-movie but I would prefer it to be a more fun one where they leaned more into the outdated weapons in storage.

unlabelledView post →Assault on Precinct 13 is the first Carpenter film to truly "feel" like one, from the spotlight granted to a sardonic antihero to a focus on a social order in spiraling decline. It's a Howard Hawks siege film and exploitation cinema all at once, and has Carpenter's first great music score.
unlabelledView post →In honor of John Carpenter's birthday Currently watching- Assault on Precinct 13 (1976) I love this film. By far his least appreciated
unlabelledView post →Movie #10: Assault on Precinct 13 for #sundayscares First watch, so great
unlabelledView post →#MovieMadness Day 22: A movie by your favourite director Assault On Precinct 13 (1976) - John Carpenter I saw Assault on Precinct 13 at an impressionable age and don't think I've ever fully recovered. My love of movies and soundtrack music all stems from this.
unlabelledView post →Now playing: Mikey & Nicky 1976 was a pretty impressive year for cinema, what with Network, Taxi Driver, Rocky, The Omen, Carrie, Assault on Precinct 13, etc. But Mikey & Nicky? That would be my favorite film from that year. Chalk it up to that great John Cassavetes / Peter Falk teamwork. 🎥
unlabelledView post →I didn't know John carpenter was still around, I guess I don't follow social media. Anyways: what a funny time to see this as I had just taken a break to get a soda while watching Assault on Precinct 13 when I read this.

unlabelledView post →Assault on Precinct 13 - great early Carpenter that plays out like a horror film… feels a bit like a non-zombie version of Night of the Living Dead. The first 30 minutes are deeply compelling storytelling that had me hooked, and on the edge of my seat the rest of the film. #filmsky
unlabelledView post →I wonder if maybe John Carpenter's ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 isn't the greatest film ever made. There's a chance it isn't. A slim chance, but a chance.
unlabelledView post →Tonight’s watch, ‘Assault on Precinct 13’ (1978, HD, John Carpenter). Re-made but nothing on this original film. Dark, tense, so much so you could almost believe it happening, and that unmistakable soundtrack. Superb 😎 Anyone got a smoke?

unlabelledView post →Love 'em all, even the "bad" ones are fun, but ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 is the money melon - the most nihilistic movie from America's greatest nihilist director
unlabelledView post →Talk all you want about other filmmakers with the best theatrical runs, but my favorite director is top of the list. ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, HALLOWEEN, THE FOG, ESCAPE FROM NY, THE THING, CHRISTINE, STARMAN, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, PRINCE OF DARKNESS, THEY LIVE Happy birthday, John Carpenter!
unlabelledView post →I dig the vampire stuff in SINNERS but I'm picturing a version that's basically a Depression-era ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 with the Klan as the bad guys and I do wanna see that movie.

unlabelledView post →As I have said, I normally HATE siege movies, but if they can get the pace right, like...Assault on Precinct 13, Fort Apache, and apparently THIS movie, and it's like any other movie to me. For as on the quick as this was made (and it looks it), this movie has been the TITS so far! #FrightClub
unlabelledView post →watched Assault on Precinct 13 on the criterion channel and while it was an entertaining movie, it was probably not the best time for 1970s copganda
unlabelledView post →Apparently SIEGE (aka SELF-DEFENSE) is leaving Shudder on Wednesday so here’s your heads up that it whips. A Halifax exploitation film about Nazis attacking a gay bar during a police strike. Like a queer Canadian ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 it’s mean, radical, and gritty as hell.
unlabelledView post →Currently watching: THE FOG Director: John Carpenter (1980) Love the whole vibe of this movie, the colors and music stand out for me. Never forget Carpenter had a legendary run starting with ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13
unlabelledView post →This week's John Carpenter looked like it was going to be his last film for a while, and would have been an appropriate finale as it's Assault on Precinct 13 in SPACE. And one of the movies that put the idea of a "Curse of Mars films" idea into studio execs heads.
unlabelledView post →Now rewatching Assault On Precinct 13, because why not? #Filmsky 📽️

unlabelledView post →Personally, I like GHOSTS OF MARS. It's a silly SF action flick that calls back to both Escape from New York and Assault on Precinct 13, but with a Bradbury twist. A fun cast and a great soundtrack. Never understood why more people don't love this film.

unlabelledView post →ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 is an excellent B-movie. You could fit the entire plot on one side of an index card. None of the characters have distinct personalities. But the editing, photography, and music create a tight, propulsive experience.
