60 of 69 · most liked firstTurns out Tommy Tallarico did not composed any of the songs for Advent Rising. This is confirmed by one of the composers for the game. I have a screencap to share this. Props go to Igor for actually confirming this and if anyone is curious who did a lot of the music it went to this composer.

unlabelledView post →Advent Rising might be the jankiest most dogshit game I ever played, billing itself as a sprawling sci-fi epic and having a plot so thin and hackneyed that it made a puddle look like an ocean by comparison, rife with questionable game mechanics, bugs, and bizarrely lanky character models
unlabelledView post →@retroblast.bsky.social Question for you and your audience. What is a game that was widely hate but you loved? I'll go first. While the marketing for Advent Rising was awful, I had a blast with the bullet time mechanics and the story was genuinely interesting. Ended on a huge cliff hanger too.
unlabelledView post →There was a contest in Advent Rising to find several symbols hidden throughout the game with the first person to do so receiving $1,000,000. Majesco later cancelled this contest claiming there was "no technically feasible solution that would allow the contest to continue in a fair and secure manner"
unlabelledView post →I would choose Advent Rising. Revisionist history will claim folks loved this game but it was panned for bugs and controls. Folks didn't show up for this game. Its on steam but I would give this game thats considered a fail another go.
unlabelledView post →Advent Rising is not a bad game, but it's a game weighed down by its own ambition for wanting to be way more than the final product wound up being. It's definitely something worth experiencing at least once, though, if only to see the potential there was in it.
unlabelledView post →I couldn't tell you if any of these would actually be good. But they seem to live in my head pretty rent free. Cypher Complex Silent Hills Star Wars 1313 Also the planned Advent Rising trilogy that never happened due to the first game bombing. It had a cliffhanger ending which still infuriates me
unlabelledView post →Time for a Retro Review! I have long held Advent Rising as my favorite game from the OG Xbox, but how does it fare 20 years later? Does it hold up, or has nostalgia gotten the better of me? Here’s my review: sightingames.wordpress.com/2025/10/20/r...
unlabelledView post →Look at this track list... You know, the first track on your video game all-star soundtrack, ADVENT RISING. Greatest video game music, and literally the ONLY JRPG representation is Final Fantasy, thrice.... odd choices too, "Liberi Fatali," I mean, it's good, but wouldn't be my first choice.
unlabelledView post →Learning about that one Advent Rising game after the Wario64 post. Saying in an interview about your game that the comic is where the real story starts and will end, it will take a lot of media to get where the game starts, and you want people to be confused on where to start is actually insane???
unlabelledView post →Related: have you ever played Advent Rising? It’s got this wonderful power arc where you start out with shitty Halo knockoff weapons that you slowly start to supplement with anime powers. Your powers grow over the game though, so by the end you have absolutely no need of the guns. It feels great.
unlabelledView post →Finished Advent Rising Just a completely inexplicable game on every level. From the awful flick aiming mechanic, the monotonous combat, the useless powers, all the way to the weirdly elongated character models that make all the humans look like praying mantises in disguise. This fucking sucks
unlabelledView post →Been playing Advent Rising and this whole game is so inexplicable
unlabelledView post →Advent Rising is the retro game I wish they’d recreate.
unlabelledView post →I've known him since G4 Doing Electric Playground and him having the fucking gall to review a game he worked on and gave it a perfect score. That was ADVENT RISING.
unlabelledView post →Fun fact, Card does actually have writing credits on a game called Advent Rising which prominently features epic space genocide. Spoiler alert, the game isn't very good
unlabelledView post →Advent Rising was a so-so Xbox/PC game released about 20 years ago. I don't really recommend it as an essential game to play. But I do recommend its soundtrack! Here's "Advent Rising" by Tommy Tallarico (from the album Video Games Live, Volume 1) #videogames #vgm #videogamemusic #gaming
unlabelledView post →4. Guilty Pleasure Game Nightmare Creatures! Castlevania 64/Legacy of Darkness Nostalgia and general atmosphere win out here. Advent Rising which I know people hate. I found it fun in how jank it was especially with cheats ON haha. The music is also great!
unlabelledView post →More Advent Rising tonight. The start of our HALO KILLERS arc.. and what a dazzling little disaster this game has been. unlabelledView post →The saddest game demo I ever saw in my life was Donald Mustard up on stage, clearly under duress from his publisher, showing a completely busted beyond belief build of Advent Rising. Just desperately trying to make it do anything that looked like gameplay and failing.
unlabelledView post →"(Insert perfectly fine and playable game) is the worst game of all time!" Children, let me introduce you to a little game called Advent Rising.
unlabelledView post →My quick intro: Been in game dev professionally over 24 years. Unprofessionally a lot longer. Shipped Postal 2, Advent Rising, Saints Rows 2, 3, 4 and the 2024 reboot plus Agents of Mayhem. I've made a lot of Team Fortress Classic maps and still dabble with it for stress relief.
unlabelledView post →Famously, every game that has been considered a [most popular game in the genre] killer has done well and killed that most popular game Which is why have Advent Rising and Haze sequels, right?...right?
unlabelledView post →I think about that game Advent Rising, where it was developed with the sole intention of being a franchise with comics, movies, etc. like, the allure and daydreaming of being your own George Lucas and being the creator of the next big thing was more on their mind than just... making a cool game
unlabelledView post →Advent Rising also won several awards for it's music I believe. It's a great game.
unlabelledView post →Not sure you'd call it an event, but I remember playing Advent Rising specifically because of their promotion that a) Orson Scott Card wrote it, when he did some dialog writing, and b) you could win $1m by playing the game. They cancelled the contest because it couldn't be implemented.
unlabelledView post →Good morning folks, to start things off, here's a 10s main menu featuring Advent Rising by GlyphX Games and Ziggurat Interactive. I've yet to beat this game, despite the fact that I enjoy it quite a bit. One of these days I'll add it to my completion list. #adventrising #retrogames #mainmenu
unlabelledView post →Somehow over the years I grabbed an album called "The Greatest Video Game Music." It's a smattering of the hits (Mario, Zelda, Final Fantasy) and a few questionable additions (Advent Rising? GTA4? Splinter Cell: Conviction??) but it's an alright orchestral arrangement of video game songs
unlabelledView post →Shadow of the Colossus is such a vibe all the way through. I could also have put in Advent Rising, a game that was not especially good but had the best soundtrack for a Star Wars movie that was not in any Star Wars piece of media. www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRbm...
unlabelledView post →I may have dropped out of high school, but at least I remember stuff like the failed franchise action game Advent Rising written by Orson Scott Card. The lead director of this game went on to direct something called Fortnite. They never honored the contest for a million dollars.
unlabelledView post →Did anyone play the Xbox game Advent Rising? A friend gave me the soundtrack almost 20 years ago and I think it might be the greatest soundtrack ever for a game that only the devs ever played.
unlabelledView post →Advent Rising. The author (Orson Scott Card) is a shit human, but the game holds up. Also the best Burnout titles were on the OG Xbox. The Xmen and Marvel titles were pretty great, too.
unlabelledView post →I want to see the full Advent Rising trilogy. I loved that first game but man, its flaws were something to deal with…
unlabelledView post →Despite never playing it I owned an Advent Rising tshirt for years that I "stole" from the preorder case at Kmart (Because no one preordered that game). I sold it on ebay 3 years ago for $75.
unlabelledView post →My junior year in high school we played songs from Video Games Live. The songs included the theme from Advent Rising, Halo, and this Disney game that nobody has heard of called Kingdom Hearts. (I still have the music for it)
unlabelledView post →Advent Rising had that 1million dollar promotion for whoever finished their game first, but because Majesco was having financial troubles they cancled the promotion after selling a bunch of copies claiming they had no way of verifying who won. arstechnica.com/gaming/2005/...
unlabelledView post →Found my old copy of the Advent Rising soundtrack I burned as a kid lol. I genuinely loved this game and soundtrack. @lordmandalore.bsky.social
unlabelledView post →Advent Rising. The original Halo killer and part one of a planned trilogy, this game was set up to fail. It's a miracle it was even playable when it released. It's my go-to example of wasted potential in video games.
unlabelledView post →If you see this, quote this post with a game you would instantly buy if it got remastered/remade! I don’t know who owns the rights to it now, but I choose Advent Rising. A sci-fi third-person shooter that was intended to be the first part of a trilogy. Could have been another Mass Effect.
unlabelledView post →When I saw your original post, Advent Rising was the first game that came to mind. I remember Tommy Tallarico promoting the heck out of it on G4. I feel like they were planning for it to be a trilogy.
unlabelledView post →I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Advent Rising is on sale on Xbox for $2.99 This OG Xbox game holds a special place in my heart and feels like an early precursor to Mass Effect, and while I have no idea how it holds up today (haven’t played it in 15 years) you should throw some bones at it.
unlabelledView post →This has got my husband reminiscing about how good the Advent Rising trailer was and then how disappointing the actual game was. 🤣
unlabelledView post →At least they both did better than Advent Rising, aka "Okay, we launched the game and our million dollar contest and- shit, we have no way of detecting cheaters. NEVER MIND, NOBODY GETS ANYTHING."
unlabelledView post →I just beat Advent Rising again (first time was 20 years ago). I'm still sad that the planned trilogy never came to fruition. That game was kickass for its time.
unlabelledView post →I remember Advent Rising. They had a whole ass trilogy planned for that game but it turned out to be booty cheeks.
unlabelledView post →Well, "aliens" It looks SO good! Definitely feels like a base of improved Mass Effect Andromeda gameplay, with a bit of Arkham. I'm gettin Advent Rising vibes, too. If they can keep the game this interesting through the whole thing, with a good story - might become one of my favorites.
unlabelledView post →This was one of my favorite games on the original Xbox. Advent Rising was a beautiful game full of action with guns and powers aplenty. Originally meant for a trilogy it never saw a 2nd installment but boy was it an adventure. Composed by none other than my boy Tommy Tallarico! #xbox #gamer
unlabelledView post →Advent Rising (2005-not even that old!) for original XBox. It was like Halo + Star Wars (Jedi Outcast) + Enter The Matrix all in one. Not a particularly well-developed game,(crashed a lot) but SOOO fun.
unlabelledView post →With my absolutely wonderful planning and totally not freezing up on what to play, I've decided to break out a game from 2005. Advent Rising, a mix of Halo, Star Trek and Mass Effect. Come potato with me over on www.twitch.tv/protopeets
unlabelledView post →@exodusgameofficial.bsky.social 1/3: I agree Exodus has the "bland hero problem." As curriculum to learn from, I suggest Donald Mustard’s game before Fortnite, Advent Rising. Find and watch a game movie version on you youtube with all cutscenes. ...
unlabelledView post →Advent Rising for $2.50 on Xbox, ehh? The only game by GlpyhX Games and written by future Epic Games Creative Director Donald Mustard. A planned trilogy went bust, Majesco pivoted to publishing the Cooking Mama games, Hippatte!! Puzzle Bobble, Double Dragon Neon and Monster Tale among others.
unlabelledView post →Tonight on the Webstream, I will be starting Advent Rising! Been a while since the last Halo Killer. Surely this is the game that will defeat Halo once and for all... R-right guys?
unlabelledView post →"Don't bow to me like I'm your god! I won't answer your prayers." 21 years ago today, ‘Advent Rising’ released on Xbox in North America. This 3rd-person sci-fi action/adventure game was the first in a planned trilogy, but the other games were scrapped due to low sales.

unlabelledView post →3. A game that is underrated. Did an entire video about this not too long ago, but I would have to say Advent Rising for the original xbox. I adore this tale of humanity's ascension and becoming literal gods. Thankfully, the overall story wasn't written by Orson Scott Card, that utter twat
