Now, being Japanese is important, because they have not been following the western developments of user interfaces. Specifically, nothing is intuitive and works as you'd expect. You can't just click on a train to get information, not even in the train list information window. No, in order to get information about anything, you must know exactly which window to open. The graphics in this game are just that, graphics. They have…

It inspired Maxis to implement the isometric perspective in SimCity 2000! It has been a very long time since A-Train received a US release, since A-Train is developed by Artdink in Japan. The most well-known US release was published by Maxis in 1992. A-Train has a very large learning curve, but when you accomplish the basics through repetition. It can be a rewarding experience! As…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A-Train holds a special place in my heart, as the 1992 version published by Maxis is the first video game I ever bought and I spent countless hours on it. I was a bit hesitant to purchase A-Train 8 as it looks dated, the GUI feels awkward and the reviews and overall player feedback seemed mostly negative. But I played the time-limited demo, and even if one hour is a bit short to get a good feel of the game, I ended up purchasing it. The game has quite a learning curve, and trial and error is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard to use and very confusing for newcomers such as myself, however veterans of the series and those dedicated enough will find their way around the strange interface and design choices.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NO TUTORIAL! It Just plops you in and you have to figure it out. On top of that, it is fairly confusing. I'd stay away unless you are a veteran at train simulators. Also, no intuituve at all. You can't click on anything but the UI, which also is quite confusing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed A-train when i was a kid years ago. But this game I have no clue what to do and there is no tutorial. Pass on this
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While OpenTDD isn't very friendly to start, it's rail "physics" are deep, engaging, and once you figure it out painless to use. There's no city building to speak of, but you're there to play with railroads. A-Train 8 is the opposite of everything OpenTTD is. A-Train 8 is a rail simulator but that's where the similarities to OpenTTD end. It may be deep and engaging, but I'll never know because I was lost at "ESXD" vs "WASD" for keyboard camera controls (and as far as I can tell, A and W aren't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the original version back in the 90s and loved it. I thought i'd give this version a go. I find it way to over complicated and glitzy. its really in your face and hard to work out unless you spend allot of time. The original starts off very simple and you feel in control and want to develop the train network. This one... I could not wait to turn it off. Its aggressive and confusing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The biggest issue I have with A-Train 8 is lack of any kind of tutorial. Maybe it's just a simulation game directed toward truly hardcore players, or for people who have played earlier game in series. I haven't, so all I could do was watching at pretty places and trains. Well, I'm sure there is something more and once you learn how to play it, you can enjoy it. I didn't, but maybe if you are into trains and games that require you learn everything (not only gameplay mechanics, but also weird UI)…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is not Atrain im sure of that, you cant pan out, its start with 4 premade towns, this is some knock off thats rubbish, not worth $2, for me not playable, be warned
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you was expecting transport tycoon then be prepared to be disappointed. The graphic’s aren’t all that and the layout of the tracks is tricky and illogical. Most important is the lack of help and tutorials the game provides, ah but you’re thinking I will just watch a lets play on YouTube right? Wrong! There aren’t many lets plays of this game and for good reason, the one I did find was in German however, but my German isn’t up to scratch so I can’t count that one for now.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So addictive I have had to uninstall it. It's basically city building using logistics and people moving. So if you liked cities in motion but were not a big fan of having to ensure person a gets to location b, you may find this hits a good middle ground. There are no goals, but you will get rewarded for dinging certain things. If you dip below zero dollars for too long it is game over and you are not able to keep playing. So keep an eye on your money. I grabbed this as an auction item quite…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2026 REVIEW: With "A-Train 8" being released in 2008, the question is does it work in 2026? Similar to another popular train simulator released in 2009 and still popular today (Train Simulator Classic), ARTDINK's popular city building management simulation game continues to go strong since it's released back in 1985. "A-Train 8" is a solid game (granted, it took awhile to get there due to timetable problems when it was originally launched). Definitely doesn't have the same love that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish i could learn how to play the game without having to atl-tab out to look at the online tutorial for the game. I'm sure it's not that bad of a game (despite the default controls being a littel wonky), but without a tutorial level i'm not going to give it much time. -Sorry
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a very early version of this game, back in the early or mid 90's. That game was excellent. This game is garbage. Nothing works well or intuitively. This was an enormous waste of money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't understand the abomination that is this game. It has the least user-friendly controls I've ever had the misfortune to use. The creator tools are underpowered and just virtually useless. It all takes far to long to do. You can't click and hold to build more. You have to click once, then again and so on just to build upwards. You then have to move onto the next block and do the same. If you click and drag the camera moves. The game lacks any decent form of help other than a long-winded…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the game. However, there is no tutorial that I know of. There is issues building tracks and stations and setting the train times etc. For example you assign a train to a station and there is no way of making sure that train will stop there and not move on to the next connected station.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →IF you like civil simulators, that focus more on the accounting and planning side of things, this is the way to go. not as involved as Sim City or the Civilization series, but also no where near annoying with bugs that are impossible to work with (like Sim City's megatower glitch). There's strategy involved like the others, but if you plan smart, your city grows and revenue increases. Just like any decent game should work
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →horid game thought i would try it out because it just came out the the 3ds but the game is hard to figure out no toutial u cant do simple withsi with track like u can only make a split rail to the left but not the right wtf also there is no free play mode where u can start from scratch was hoping it would be fun but just wasent and a waste of 20 bucks
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It wasn't so bad. I liked how the game had a Japanese feel to it. I'm tired of seeing cities that so resembles the US when building.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just when you think you're doing well, It's time to pay your taxes. But don't give up, it'll get better. your taxes only go up by 100 million a year. If you like difficult financial problems and finding a way out on them, this is your game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Over-priced garbage.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tags: Tycoon&Simulator&Sim&City Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Insanely high barrier of entry. Dated engine. No fullscreen. No tutorial. Review: This game is basically a reskin of a fossil game from the early tycoon days in the eighties. Maybe it has its niche but it comes across as a rather insulting offer nowadays in this current state. Feels like the developper had more fun crafting the levels and dumped you with a bunch of buttons and graphs that dont…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I thoght it would be good but NO!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you know how to play these kind of games I am sure it would be a blast but I was just overwhelmed by what I could do and simply puzzled as why it was not working or making me a profit at least. I will recommend the game because if I took the time to learn it I am sure it is a nice rail and urban development simulator but it's not my personal cup of tea.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not sure if I can recommend this game so much as I can say I have certainly enjoyed toying around with it. In terms of game play I have had fun going bankrupt a few times and surprisingly managed to stay in the black a few other times. All in all, to me it is like a spruced up version of A-Train III/Maxis A-Train with UI design elements from A-Train 7 and the look of A-Train 21st Century. It's a pretty fun localization (English), too. This game has been a fun tool that has served me…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still has all of the fun and challenge of the original Maxis distributed version I played 30 years ago, with better graphics and gameplay. Great train building and property management mechanics. I also always enjoy a good stock market in a game like this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not Recommended
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old but still good. Works pretty well with steamplay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Once you understand this game it is really fun, not just about trains, its really about speculation
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My nostalgia for the edition I owned for my Commodore Amiga prompted me to get this game. Sadly disappointed.
