My least liked game of the Total War series. Its not graphically bad, the factions arent bad and no in fact its nothing that Creative Assembly cant fix. The game is ruined by 1 thing and 1 thing only.....the AI. Im barely into turn 10 on a easymode campaign and factions are just randomly declaring war on me....factions i havent even had a interaction with, factions that arent even in any way related to factions i do have something to do with, nope its just a random ass faction decided its…

The game blows. Battles become an absolute mess with no cohesion or order. It feels like a brawl rather than an actual battle with well-organized units. Ranged units are very powerful and can melt units with ease, and since infantry is too slow, they won't be able to do anything to you, you just run away, and that is IF they even try to attack you. I just won an assault on a settlement by shooting the defenders to death and they literally just let you do that. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ AI and the battles are a…

I've played a lot of Total War over the years—mostly Rome 1 and Rome 2. When I saw they announced a Troy version, I was hyped. The Iliad is one of my favorite stories out of all the classical myths, and I was even more excited about the fact that you can turn on mythical creatures. I dove right in, and it looks amazing. The map looks like a Greek amphora. Since I'm a Total War vet (I conquered the entire map in Rome 2 on Legendary), I thought playing on normal difficulty for my first game—just…

Maybe it's just me, but in the historical Total Wars like this one the enemy AI cheating like hell at higher difficulties and spawning huge armies out of small rural villages is really, really boring, immersion ruining, and annoying. In the fantasy titles it can often be somehow explained, with a bit of imagination, but a small fishermen village arming thousands of men with armors and spears faster than i (as Sparta) can, and then feeding them and sending them off to my capital? LOL, come…

As much as I want to love this game, and while the early campaign is genuinely fun, I can’t fully recommend it. This isn’t a positive review so much as a neutral one, and that mainly comes down to one major issue the endgame. It’s a slog and even by Total War standards, that’s saying something. By the time I reached the late stages of my Hector campaign, I was forcing myself to finish rather than actually enjoying it. I’ve completed the game twice once when it originally released for free on…

First of all, I'm biased to the setting, as at the age of 10-13, I was enthralled by the Greek mythology. On the other hand, in this case, I would demand more from the setting converted to TW franchise, right? ;) Anyway, when I first launched the game, I got a feeling that the Bulgarian CA team had the same attitude to the Greek mythology. So, contrary to what you may have watched/read before about TWS: TROY, at the release, the developers perfectly captured the spirit and the style of Iliad,…

The AI is obviously broken to the point of the game being almost unplayable. They are clearly not functioning as intended. Any minor faction with 1 or 2 settlements will declare war on you. Sometimes all at the same time and there is a lot of them. It doesn't matter if you are friends with them and even have military access pacts with them. Even if they are on your side of the war they will declare war on you. Minor factions should be a lot easier to confederate but they want almost nothing to…

Its just bad. One of the greatest settings in the world, a war so great the even 3 Thousand Years later we still talk about the heros that fought in it, their victories and loses, the gods that are heavily ingrained into the mythos. And the devs mucked it up, the ai in both kampaign and battle is horrificly bad. Pathfinding of units is barely acceptable, everything bodyblocks each other constantly, including regular units to heros. And Agamendon is attacking every Greek state before he even…

For the diehard fans of the Trojan War and the Illiad/Odyssey, this is an easy grab, especially on sale. The Homeric victories offer gameplay focused around your hero, which is very enjoyable. I'll admit, the combat isn't anything great, but when it's pretty enough to look at the campaign map, it's a good pickup!

A very fun and more casual player friendly Total War. The setting of the bronze age and the Iliad tale make it one of the more interesting games in the whole series. The art is some of the best. All factions have unique abilities they can use that gives the game extra layers. The combat is honestly some of, if not the, worst in the series in that its extremely basic and not much strategy is required compared to other games in the series. Very easy battles. Overall its more easy going and once…

I don't know. I love Total War games. This one though? It's hard to find something to love about it besides the setting. I'm a beginner at these games, and it just isn't fun to start a game and have 7 wars begin within 10 turns of the game starting. There aren't enough resources to compete to build fast enough to stop the tide of the attack. For me? This game just is not fun.

Terrible game. Every campaign is me vs the entire map. Literally, people are sailing ships across the map just to attack my cities and then run away. The ai is so poorly written. It's as if I'm the only person playing on the map. Devs have a lot of work to do.

Better to play Total War: Troy than to watch Nolan's The Odyssey... There is a genuine love for Homer's Iliad and Odyssey woven throughout this game. It's depiction of the Mycenaean Greeks, the Trojans, their cultures, and Bronze Age warfare creates an immersive setting for one of history's most legendary conflicts. What I especially enjoy is the blend of history and mythology, you can seek the favor of the Olympian gods, tame legendary beasts, recruit mythical units, and decide the fate of…

From the company that charges extra for a sprinkle of blood in their war games: A Tag War Saga: Thrace. Over a 100 turns in I never fought a single trojan. Playing as Achilles. Thrace is broken. Rhesus, the Jesus ressurrects every few turns with fresh stacks of chaff units that are near unbreakable and outmanouvers what little troops I can muster despite owning half of Greece, since Achilles' mood causes inflation somehow (I kid you not, that is an actual ingame mechanic for some reason).…

I think i've given enough time for this game to pleasantly surprise me but it never did. There are a few cool ideas here and there, but it is a very lackluster experience in general. Hero dueling animations are cool, ancient Greece setting and Mythos is what interests me too. Art and decision to make skybox in a form of amphora painting is cool. Music, mix of traditional instruments with rock gives that 300 movie vibe. Resource barter and locking resources to regions is cool too. Aaaand…

Boring after about 10 hours. My biggest problem with Total War: Troy is that it simply lacks depth in its strategy. After the initial hours, the campaign starts to feel repetitive, and there isn’t enough strategic decision-making to keep things interesting. What frustrates me even more is how the AI behaves. Enemy armies can move around your territory with seemingly no meaningful cost or consequence. Instead of engaging your army when you are right in front of them, they will often ignore…

Troy is an odd game. Let me preface by pointing out clear pros, as well because some people tend to say opposite when it’s clearly false. - The visuals are excellent. Maybe the best in the series. - The art style is superb, I love the sepia/vase painting backgrounds and pictures in info panels. - The soundtrack is among the best in the series. - And so is the map, easily one of the best maps for a good strategic gameplay. - UI is certainly not ugly, and certainly is user friendly. - Factions,…

I keep trying to like this game, but I just can't. Lot of my issues are minor ones due to how animations are handled in the game. Examples: If playing on any mode other than the realistic one, heroes are unable to march with their armies. The units will move faster at walk than the general/hero, and they can't move through their own units. So what ends up happening is the hero will get caught in their own units, starting/stopping their walk animation as they get swallowed by their faster…

Absolutely underrated . I played the Mythos version with Sparta so far, and even if bugged (you can't recruit special units with Menelaus campaign and no workarounds either for that) , I had so much fun, I almost abandoned the campaign for that reason (bug), and because the AI constantly attacked me from all fronts with no mercy and with special armies.. but Sparta is Sparta, whatever age it is, and so be-at it. Total War: Troy feels like an interesting experiment that never quite finds its footing. It takes the mythic grandeur of the Trojan War and wraps it in Creative Assembly’s usual mix of strategy and spectacle, but the end result feels oddly restrained. The Mythological mode, which is what I mainly played, definitely adds some flavor with its mythical units, monsters, and divine mechanics, but it still can’t really hide how streamlined the game is underneath it all. A beautifully made game that immerses you in the atmosphere of the Bronze Age and the Trojan War. I recommend playing the "Myths in Reality" mode rather than the purely historical one - it is genuinely worth it. The developers’ attention to historical details in many places also deserves special mention (for example, Helen’s cosmetics), something the film of the same name could not boast. A Total War Saga: TROY (2021) Pros A long time ago I played several games in the series — Rome, Attila, TWW1, TWW2 — so I'm familiar with the core mechanics: RTS battles, a turn-based global map, provinces, diplomacy, and technologies. I liked this foundation before, and Saga: TROY was no different — the base of the game is solid. The setting is unique and interesting. It moves away from both the realistic Total War line — Rome, Attila, Three Kingdoms — and the already familiar fantasy…

I understand why so many people were disappointed by this game, given it isn't a true historical Total War, but the gameplay style matches with what it is based on, and I think that it is good for the style it has.

A hidden gem of the Total War series. The gameplay can be very deep if you wish to optimize - thanks to the deities system and robust diplomacy. The visuals and the greek setting are very nice. The biggest con is the lack of siege engines and (for the most part) cavalry, but then again during battle all the units are very fast with good running stamina so you are encouraged to just rush your opponent. Honestly, want to like the game. However it is more style over "quality" in this case. The economy and settlement building grinds to a halt with how the gold in the economy works late game. the AI just spams "crap stacks" so at the start the game is quite challenging but once you get a decent army it just often becomes an auto resolve simulator.
