A River Runs Through It
The Maclean brothers, Paul and Norman, live a relatively idyllic life in rural Montana, spending much of their time fly fishing. The sons of a minister, the boys eventually part company when Norman moves east to attend college, leaving his rebellious brother to find trouble back home. When Norman finally returns, the siblings resume their fishing outings, and assess where they've been and where they're going. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →Robert Redford has died aged 89. He starred in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, All the President’s Men, Indecent Proposal, Avengers: Endgame, and directed Ordinary People, A River Runs Through It, Quiz Show & Legend of Bagger Vance. He was also a founder of the Sundance Film Festival.
unlabelledView post →A personal favourite film of mine is A River Runs Through It. It’s a small story, but expertly told by Robert Redford as the film’s director and narrator. I always loved the last line of the book that it was based on, and I love that Redford kept in the movie, and spoke the words himself.
unlabelledView post →While it's not necessarily his best movie, A River Runs Through It is my favorite film of all time. It is achingly beautiful.
unlabelledView post →A movie that takes place where you're from. --------------- "A River Runs Through It". Fun info! My Great uncle George was best friends with one of the Macleans and learned to tie flies from their family. He also taught Brad Pitt how to fly fish for the movie.

unlabelledView post →RIP Robert Redford. ‘A River Runs Through It’, ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’, ‘The Sting’. So many great films acted & directed by him. One of the great all-time Hollywood leading men. Founded the major annual Sundance Film Festival in Utah. Co-founded The Redford Center.

unlabelledView post →A lot of people have forgotten this book, but Norman Maclean published his first, very excellent book “A River Runs Through It” at 73 years old. It is an incredible book (skip watching the very bad movie). While you “do nothing for a few years” your creative nature is at work anyway, quietly.
unlabelledView post →my internet’s out so i put on “A River Runs Through it”, knowing it’ll prolly lull me to sleep again. it’s got the pace of a poor day fly fishing, but it’s a fine film.
unlabelledView post →A River Runs Through It is a Dudes Rock movie. Comments have been turned off on this post.

unlabelledView post →"Gobble-gobble mother fucker!" Who said the line better? Jordan Downey in this movie or Brad Pitt in A River Runs Through It? Darcy and JBB did this movie in a pre-Discord video watchalong, screened on the wall above her couch. Watching it is a Thanksgiving tradition for me #MutantFam #FrightClub

unlabelledView post →I was going LTP at JRTC ca… 2015? Our BN CDR had the staff gather together for an evening of professional development, wherein he had us watch “A River Runs Through It.” Because he was from Montana, you see. Honestly, best commander I ever had. Great movie, too.
unlabelledView post →I'm on book 4 in the Wheel of Time Series (big fan so far!). Once that's done, it's on to, A River Runs Through It - I told myself I'd read the book before I watch the movie. #BookSky💙📚 #FlyFishing Also shout out to Driftless Books in Viroqua!
unlabelledView post →Ok, so so far, you guys are telling me I’m missing a cinematically beautiful film with an equally brilliant score. Where does it rank with The Revenant, A River Runs Through It, and No Country For Old Men in these areas? 🤔🙂 #DonnaPonderings #HATM
unlabelledView post →You guys! You guys! A River Runs Through It is on TCM! Like, right now! Been thinking about this film for weeks and weeks and wondering why it doesn’t get shown more.
unlabelledView post →Robert Redford, after not picking River for A River Runs Through It, acted with him for his next movie Sneakers, which is a fucking fantastic movie with Sidney Poitier. #TCMParty #RunningonEmpty

unlabelledView post →I remember watching Brad Pitt in A River Runs Through It, long before I knew he was a shitty person, and thinking "man it's a shame that he can't really act because that has to be one of the most gorgeous people to ever appear on film"
unlabelledView post →Tonight’s movie: A River Runs Through It (1992), the other 90s movie where [abuser] Brad Pitt plays the early 20th century brother that stayed home in Montana and attracted all of the girls. So far it’s some of the most awkward filmmaking I’ve ever seen. It just appears to…not have been directed?

unlabelledView post →Lovely atmospheric #pano that shows the quiet appeal of fishing. Since it's also #MovieTitle #weekM at #PanoPhotos, the 1992 "A River Runs Through It" film comes to mind. However, John Carpenter's "The Fog" is more my genre. Thanks for sharing, Eric! ☺️
unlabelledView post →Things I learned: - A River Runs Through It is maybe not the movie for a jockish 16 yo boy. - If a 17 yo boy does not find it hilarious to do heavy petting in the back seats at Free Willy, he will never be comfortable with your sense of humor. - I went to The Piano alone. A+ choice.

unlabelledView post →That's the truly gorgeous Galatin River* canyon along Highway 191. A bit of a tricky one for an RV but just stunning views. We'd do it again in a heartbeat. The river rafting looked cool, too! *The main location for the movie A River Runs Through It with Brad Pitt. #TravelAddicts #RVTravel

unlabelledView post →Here’s one for my MT peeps: my mom went to the dentist today and the hygienist was asking her where she moved from and she said Montana and he was like “A River Runs Through It is my favorite movie. Have you heard of Missoula?” And she said “Yeah, we used to live there.”
unlabelledView post →It also occurs to me that like A River Runs Through It, this movie about the American West is based on a novella - not an epic novel, like some John Jakes gig. That likely means the narration will be sharp and poignant, like River. #hatm
unlabelledView post →Unpopular opinion (apparently) - Train Dreams is a super-slow moving A River Runs Through It. Depressing and gets depressinger with every scene. There's about 15 minutes of story in the 102 minute movie. It should win for cinematography but give me Sinners for everything else.
unlabelledView post →"A River Runs Through It" was primarily filmed in south-central Montana, particularly in and around Livingston, Bozeman, and along the Gallatin and Boulder Rivers. The movie is set in Missoula, which is actually across the state. Those areas are truly beautiful. #ARiverRunsThroughIt #TCMParty
unlabelledView post →How about Jeremiah Johnson? A more beautiful film I’ve never seen. And he produced and directed some great movies too – Ordinary People and A River Runs Through It, for example.
unlabelledView post →Yes! One of my favorite movies, definitely top 20. Another RR-directed movie that is worth a revisit is A River Runs Through It. Exploring the eternal question: am I my brother's keeper?
unlabelledView post →The Sting (1973) is about as perfect a movie as you can see. Yet, when I think of Robert Redford, I think of a film he directed, A River Runs Through It (1992) I think it perfectly captures things that were important to him: the natural world, and family relationships. Thank you, Mr. Redford.
unlabelledView post →"We're not owners here, Karen. We're just passing through." My favourite Robert Redford movie that he starred in is "Out of Africa" (1985); my favourite film he directed "A River Runs Through It" (1992). RIP.

unlabelledView post →Always a thrill to get that Montana Quarterly byline, especially in this case covering 50 years of the home state’s Holy Scripture, “A River Runs Through It.” From the earliest raves to a movie that changed things forever to a new opera, which had its first showcase in Brooklyn. Haunting waters.
unlabelledView post →We had a non-chain store in my town. My family would all decide on a movie together Friday nights. Sometimes we took recommendations from other people, like when my grandmother somehow thought “A River Runs Through It” was a good family movie. One of the only films we turned off.
unlabelledView post →i'm officially not interested! i think "A River Runs Through It" made me gunshy, even tho that's not a terrible movie & Brad Pitt even got casting lessons from Gary Borger

unlabelledView post →#FilmSky Who knew watching “A River Runs Through It” would lead me to discovering this gem. 🥴
unlabelledView post →All of the instances I can remember are bad, even though I generally like going to the movies, because when it goes well everyone is like "yes that was good, as expected" and when it goes badly one friend or relative has vowed never to go to a movie with you again (Identity, A River Runs Through It)

unlabelledView post →This is maybe weird but the first movie I thought of when I heard about Redford passing was A River Runs Through It, a movie where he only provides voiceover.
unlabelledView post →this isn't going to help, but I was remembering A River Runs Through It on Sunday which I had referred to as when Brad Pitt made good movies but I am now reminded it was actually Robert Redford who made the good movie that made me cry like it was my job
