A Man Called Ove
Despite being deposed as president of his condominium association, grumpy 59-year-old Ove continues to watch over his neighbourhood with an iron fist. When pregnant Parvaneh and her family move into the terraced house opposite Ove and she accidentally backs into Ove’s mailbox, it sets off a series of unexpected changes in his life. From TMDB

60 of 71 · most liked firstI haven't read the book "A Man Called Ove" but I think the movie "A Man Called Otto" with Tom Hanks is based on this book. I think the movie is surprising, delightful...and oh so relatable. I seldom watch something more than once but this is an exception. 5*****. www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFYU...

unlabelledView post →One of my favorite books of all time. I don't have any problem telling people when a book moves me so much I actually cried. This was one of them. The most recent book that has done that was "A Man Called Ove" by Fredrik Backman. It has been adapted into film, but I still love the book.

I am so glad I did, every book of his that I've read has been a delight. Land was amazing, but I needed a TW on that one. #booksky
unlabelledView post →Tom Hanks was in the English-language remake of the movie adaptation of A Man Called Ove (the original movie was made in Sweden) - they changed it to Otto for this movie
unlabelledView post →The original Swedish film, a Man Called Ove, with Rolf Lassgård; the best ever Wallander, is phenomenal... I may watch it again tonight
unlabelledView post →Did you read A Man Called Ove. I loved that book. I saw the movie, but not the domestic version
unlabelledView post →A Man Called Otto is a really good movie. The original Swedish version, A Man Called Ove, is even better.
unlabelledView post →A Man Called Ove. The movie doesn't count. There's a cat in it!!
unlabelledView post →I loved a Man Called Ove and also enjoyed the Swedish film. The actor who played Ove was excellent, and I would recommend the movie to anyone who liked the book. Have put a library hold for The Book of Lost Friends.
unlabelledView post →Not my idea to watch it. Sister-in-law said it was a cute movie. I knew I was in trouble once I saw it was based on “A Man Called Ove”.

unlabelledView post →Another on my favorites list. the original version of A Man Called Ove. I loved the book; I firmly believe the original movie does the book justice more than the Americanized A Man Called Otto. Tom Hanks just isn't grumpy enough. #filmsky @zachthenarratorguy.bsky.social youtu.be/oCh4iiAXuAc?...
unlabelledView post →If you want to understand the limits of state-centered solutions, read "A Man Called Ove" (or see the movie) when Ove is made redundant; no say, no voice. He has social benefits but no control over his life. State or private corporations steal that from us. Everyone wants SAY over one's own life.
unlabelledView post →From the author of A Man Called Ove which was turned into the movie A Man Called Otto #gerryreads #shortstory
unlabelledView post →A Man Called Ove is amazing. Tom Hanks stars in the movie adaptation (A Man Called Otto) which is solid. Fredrik Backman also wrote the Bear Town trilogy - first 2 books were great & book 3 is on par 1/3 of the way in!
unlabelledView post →I'm reading Backman's My Friends right now. It's wonderful. But it reminded me how much I loved A Man Called Ove. So, of course, I then had to rewatch A Man called Otto. So many tears. But in a good way. Underrated movie. It got a lot of hate when it came out because it wasn't just like the book.
unlabelledView post →It’s very good. Quirky. All about art, relationships and memories. It’s the same guy who wrote A Man Called Ove. Used “Otto” for the film.
unlabelledView post →It is indeed, and he is. I also enjoyed the Swedish original of the film, A Man Called Ove - worth a look.
unlabelledView post →A Man Called Otto (Tom Hanks) Haven't seen it yet, but A Man Called Ove looks like it would fit, too. Another, maybe, Nicholson film - As Good As It Gets.
unlabelledView post →On 8/13 Jimmy picked a book by this author for his book club. Tom Hanks was in the 2022 remake of the 2015 Swedish adaptation of another one of the author’s novels, A Man Called Ove. The Tom Hanks film is called A Man Called Otto.
unlabelledView post →Yup! 2015 Swedish film called A Man Called Ove!
unlabelledView post →I saw the original Swedish film, A Man Called Ove. It's better. Don't watch it.
unlabelledView post →You're welcome. I'd be curious to know your reaction to the last bits. (I hope I haven't ruined it for you.) I'm going to get A Man Called Ove. I didn't like the film, but friends say the book is wonderful (so often true). I may also be the only person in the world who doesn't "get" Tom Hanks.
unlabelledView post →Awesome, much appreciated! I will definitely add some of these to my list. I loved the book A Man Called Ove. I’ve only seen the American film version with Tom Hanks as far as adaptations (where they changed his name to Otto)
unlabelledView post →Bummer!! I haven't read that book yet but it's on my tbr. I read A Man Called Ove last month and really enjoyed it. I want to watch the original movie adaptation.
unlabelledView post →A Man Called Ove is my only experience with Backman. He came on my radar from a coworker who loved the movie. I work odd hours and don’t get to the cinema often so I launched into the book. The book is almost always better! Few exceptions
unlabelledView post →Great film. Have you read the book it’s based on - “A Man Called Ove”?
unlabelledView post →Yeah, it was a bit hit and miss. He wrote (the very good) A Man Called Ove which was adapted into that Tom Hanks movie (not seen), so he can write well. Will give him benefit of the doubt and try another of his at some point.
unlabelledView post →I'm listening to A Man Called Ove - Frederik Backman, and it's incredibly funny. I haven't seen either #movie, but the Tom Hanks casting in the American version is perfect. I can absolutely picture him as cranky Ove. #book #booksky #audiobook
unlabelledView post →A Man Called Ove (/Otto). The writing is fantastic, with a lovely story that digs into human emotion and how we manage grief. The film adaptation with Tom Hanks was really good as well.
unlabelledView post →If you’ve ever seen the movie *A Man called Otto starring Tom Hanks, then you’d enjoy this prior Swedish movie adaptation of the book *A Man Called Ove - 2015
unlabelledView post →Saw the Swedish film of A Man Called Ove online for free, a pleasant surprise. It is a good film which follows the book closely, with a couple minor changes. The actor who plays Ove is excellent. Thought the cat should have had a bigger role, though. 😉 Like the book the film is both funny & moving.
unlabelledView post →I love so many of these too! Little Women is an all-time fave, as is Rebecca and The Kite Runner 🩷 I also really like A Man Called Ove, so sad and heartwarming at the same time. I recently finally watched the movie adaptation with Tom Hanks and enjoyed it too. You have great taste! 😉

unlabelledView post →I watched "A Man Called Ove" tonight. Swedish original of the Tom Hanks "Otto" movie of last year. The wikipedia page has the whole plot summary so I won't link it but it's very funny, very sad, and there's a good cat. I got it from Disc netflix but probably your local library has it? unlabelledView post →Summary: 10/10: the definitive version of Backman's story, anchored by Lassgård's fearless performance and Holm's understanding that some character journeys can't be rushed. This is the film that should have been your first encounter with Fredrik Backman's creation, and it earns every bit of its two Oscar nominations. Director Hannes Holm understands what the story requires: genuine unlikability slowly cracking open to reveal the grief and principle underneath. Rolf Lassgård is the perfect Ove.…

unlabelledView post →Searching for Fredrik here I see he also wrote A Man Called Ove, which I haven’t read, but I did quite enjoy the movie based on it called A Man Called Otto.
unlabelledView post →A Man Called Ove. But the movie needs to be the real one not the Otto one.
unlabelledView post →Movie of the day. A Man Called Ove. #filmsky
unlabelledView post →I agree…and also the original movie A Man Called Ove
unlabelledView post →Apologies if this has been suggested but A Man Called Ove by Fredrick Backman is the best book I’ve read in years it was the basis for the Tom Hanks film A Man Called Otto. The book is set in Sweden & even though Tom Hanks made it American he handled the story very well & Tom’s son plays young Otto
unlabelledView post →I read the translation. A Man Called Ove. They turned him into Otto for the film
unlabelledView post →Watched this last night. The original "A Man Called Ove" is so much better. The soundtrack in this remake made it feel like a cheesy hallmark movie.
unlabelledView post →A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman Book: 8/10 Movie: 7/10 (Otto) Enjoyable & emotional book. Adaptation made quite a few changes I wasn't too happy with (omitting the 'wrong train' story) but it was great seeing the characters come to life, and Mariana Treviño was terrific in her role.
