A good bullet hell-like game has to do two things well: 1) good movement mechanics 2) competent hitbox detection This game does neither. So it doesn't really matter how good the artwork is, or any other aspect of the game.

This is a good game marred by some weird choices that could have been easily fixed. Bullet hell + robotron + multiple classes, each with interesting mechanics, super meatboy style speed = what could go wrong? Honestly there are lots of places where the game doesn't realize it's potential, but one is really obvious. You die fast, but respawn slow. In particular, treating each life as a "continue" was a bad decision, badly implemented. When you die you are given a choice to either watch the…

Overall Rating - Seriously Flawed ★★☆☆☆ First Impressions The negative reviews for Fistful of Gun (FG) made me wary, though I wondered what the main problems were. Looking at the trailer suggested it had potential: there's a range of characters to play as, and a Western theme is a good set-up for a twin-stick shooter.…

When starting up A Fistful of Gun for the first time I was greeted with retro style pixel graphics combined with the dusty zest of an old Western movie. I grabbed my controller and jumped right in, since there was no tutorial, and promptly died. The game is a top down shooter that is very much like a bullet hell game. Shots are flying every which way as you run around killing bad guys and picking up the gold left behind. Despite being horrible at this sort of game I still found it fun and…

I feel like this game is misunderstood by the people who gave them a negative review. Let me tell you why: I´ve seen old Spaghetti Western films because of my dad, always had contact with those movies cause he loved Clint Eastwood as the badass bounty hunter, but his favorite Sergio Leone´s film is "Once Upon a Time in the West" starring Charles Bronson. Anyone that never watched Sergio Leone´s films will not understand the game title or even the concept idea that the developer want to give…

A Fistful of Gun demonstrates both the unrestricted and undisciplined extremes of indie development. Eleven different characters, each with their own control scheme? Nine-player co-op? Sleek presentation that blends Western tropes with pixel art? Sounds amazing! Too bad no one even tried to balance any of the characters, items, or upgrades. Too bad everything is a one-hit kill, and the screen is extremely cluttered even in single-player. Too bad the versus mode is poorly designed to the point…

A Fistful of Gun is an homage to the western genre. Story: A long time ago, there lived an evil railroad baron Clayton Boon, the most evil man in the land that might have even made the deal with the devil. He's been known for killing anyone that opposed his railroad, but he didn't count on a rag tag group of people he crossed to come for their vengeance. That's about all you get in the story department when it comes to A Fistful of Gun, which is delivered to you on a splash screen at the…

When I purchased this game to play locally with some friends years ago, we didn't end up playing it for long and quickly moved on to other games. I recently revisited this game again with my brother, and I immediately remembered why we stopped playing it years ago. This game has quite a few flaws: The controls are terrible. You're given a selection of 11 different characters to play as and they all have different control schemes. However, many of these characters are extremely hard to use,…

A decent premise for a roguelite twin-stick shooter that blows it by having a dozen different bad control schemes instead of one good one. The lack of any sort of persistent unlock system or progression makes the core gameplay being so dull and frustrating that much worse.

This is a hard-pass/10. It's a bullet hell where you have 1 life. The controls are unintitive and poorly explained. Supposed to work with a controller but didn't read mine. What was shoot for one character on keyboard and mouse wasn't for another character, and changing controls is tough bc the menu and ui is so terrible. It's impossible to beat first Act of story, unless you wanna keep replaying it forever. Also story doesn't even make sense, you just run around this interconnected map of…

This is a bullet hell type of shooter in which you have one hit point. Pros: - fun graphics - randomised campaign mode which is also fun - many characters - good music - character advancement through perks Cons: - some of those characters are barely playable - try playing as a sniper, archer or this bomber man. It'll be hard - repetitive - boring after few hours - no point in playing this game single player, it's more fun in multi After all this game is technically good, but lacks in…

I really tried to like this but I just can't get passed the crappy control setups for the characters. Plus the difficulty spike is just a pain in the ass. Get shot once and restart the area. Get shot at by 50 bullets and try to dodge those when more come from the other direction and your character is slow as crap.

This looked like it was going to be a fun little game, but I am completely underwhelmed. On a foundational level, A Fistful of Gun actually is a good game. All of the nuts and bolts that go into a solid shmup are present, but the developer decided that a classic formula should be needlessly complicated. There are a ton of characters to choose from, but there's something horribly wrong with all of them: Their movement is slow, their range of attack sucks, or their unique control scheme ranges…

A Fistful of Gun is a great game. It is a challenging and unforgiving game, I think that's where most of these negative reviews come from. Some characters are easier to play than others, that is true. But the aim, movement, and mechanics stuff I think is posted by naive people who don't understand what the game is supposed to be - and ultimately want the game to be something else.. something they've played before. But you have to go back to 1985 to find a game that compares to A Fistful of Gun.…

This game has the very strange, but also cool, idea of assigning a different control method to every character. Unfortunately, the energy seems to have gone into trying to make this whole idea as quirky as possible and very little seems to have gone into making it, you know...fun. A Fistful of Gun is a coop top-down shooter with bullet-hell elements and a western theme, which kind of shoots way off target in many regards. The art design is convoluted, effects are spectacularly screen overflowing in a way that nothing is perceptible anymore and the gameplay is kind of meh. To be honest even more than meh as hitbox detection and controls are bordering on being abysmal. Another game that is ♥♥♥♥. Control wise it's a mess, not to mention the hitbox! This game tried to be an updated version of Gunsmoke, the 1985 arcade game made by Capcom but it fails miserably. Even the NES version of Gunsmoke has responsive controls and hitbox, and we're talking about a game that was made 38 years ago. The pixel art could also be better. Overall, a lazy game. A very large number of things have gone very wrong for this game to land on Steam. Hideous retro pixel graphics, but stylised, so they don't even look like games in the 1990s... so the developers weren't opting for recreation, they instead just wanted to take the worst of the 1990s and make their game look worse than that. - Western styled shooter - Arcade and story mode - Many characters with unique shooting mechanics - Made with multiplayer in mind - VERY challenging to the verge of frustration I played the game with a friend of mine and the arcade mode was very unforgiving. At the start you will blow up on the first 3 bullets shot on the map. It gets a bit easier once you learn to predict the bullets and see the important stuff among all the hassle on the screen. But as soon as you think you are doing better,…

I like twin stick shooters, and I like silly games with a good sense of humor. I don't like Fistful of Gun. For the same price you could buy Nuclear Throne or Binding of Isaac remaster, or honestly a ton of other, better, twin stick shooters. It's just flat and unsatisfying.

Good fun party game for when frineds are over. Reminiscent of older shooting games in a good way. Also had technical issues, and the dev reached out to me directly on steam and fixed the problem. You can't beat that.

I think I can freely call it a retro arcade game. I looks verry nice with the pixel graphics, feels good but is really hard. If U die to often, then try other character, because they have completely different gamplay styles. I played a lot with xbox360 controller, but some gunslinger control schames give me more chances to survive with the mouse precise aiming. It's not a game for casual players or easy 100% achievement hunters. I recommend it more for hardcore players.
