50 of 50 · most liked first88 Heroes is one of the worst and most disapointing games I have played on steam. As a retro fantatic the premise of this game looked amazing, retro platformer with tons of playable characters, and jam packed with humorous references to 80's and 90's. I was stoked when I stumbled on this game and skipped every other game in my backlog to play it. Unfortunately the end result is nowhere near as cool as it all looked. First the good, the humor and references in this game are fantastic.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →88 Heroes is the hipster love-child of Broforce and Rogue Legacy! 88 Heroes is a game I really wanted to love but ultimately began to hate. I was looking forward to it, the concept isn't unique but the characters are but the game being nothing more than a fair gimmick and after about an hour and a half worth of gameplay, I decided to refund the game as I was disappointed above anything else. I'll start with the things that I loved: -The characters of this game and the variety that they come…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/v2X216JaowY 88 Heroes is a callback title to 16-bit era platformers with all the expected trappings of tricky jumping, floor spikes, moving lasers and spinning chains of death. For all intents and purposes it probably plays exactly how you think it would play at first glance. That is, until the character on screen is changed completely and the joke becomes clear. Every time you die or finish a level, you’re given a completely different character to play as. 88 Heroes, 88…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm so glad I found this gem of a game! It's very retro-ish, and parodies Mario, Ninja Turtles, Portal, a TON of movies, and some other funny little things. It's really entertaining in a silly sort of way, and a little agonizing when you get a character that doesn't work well in a specific level. Pros: Each character really does have their own personality and play style The retro throwbacks and parodies are wonderful! Good Platformer Good Performance and entertainment value Cons: Some…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I mean its kind of fun to see all the references of the heroes. This is the best part of the game. The main-gameplay isnt that fun and some things are more annoying than fun to me. Some design decisions try to make this game challenging but for me this is more some kind of broforce fun-game with fun characters that are sometimes more useless than helpful and you just die by finding out their attack button. The levels are just boring designed so its not really motivating to beat them. Because…

It features a humongous roster of 88 heroes and features a villain called Dr H8. The basic premise of 88 Heroes is that Dr H8 has demanded 88 octillion dollars to be delivered to him within 88 seconds or he will launch 88 warheads towards the world. The obsessive nature with the number 8 also reflects in the achievements present within the game and shows how much the developers have nailed the 8…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had received this game for well under five dollars on sale. It was well worth it as it's fun and enjoyable for what it is. It doesn't take itself seriously but the controls are good and about a quarter of the characters are actually fun to play. Honestly all of the achievements are easy as heck if you use the Miss Fortune cheese method like I did. The only two achievements that actually take careful planning and skill are the ones for completing 88 Mode with 8 and 16 heroes remaining as you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →88 Heroes isn't just some generic retro-styled game - it positively reeks of the aesthetic of 80's and 90's British computer games. Computer gaming was a far more powerful force in the UK back in the late 80's and early 90's than it \was in the US. And computer games were more open to experimentation than console games. Open worlds and excellent soundtracks abounded in those days. Speaking of which, this game's unique concept also elevates it above genericness. It's crazy challenging, even on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing game, fun and quirky. 8/8 would play again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →88 Heroes is a pretty fun platformer. Pick it up on sale, it's not worth the asking price
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game from a mystery key bundle or something similar and only played it so i could buy the cool emotes from the points shop, but I was actually pleasantly surprised with the gameplay. The gimmick of having a new hero each time you die is very cool and provides refreshing diversity. I thought it would be very hard to make 88 different heroes that each have unique abilities and are interesting in a platformer game, but the devs made it work perfectly. The graphics have a vibrant 80's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An extremely fun game, all of the heroes are unique and interesting, fun and silly. The random aspect of keeps the game fresh and fun. It reminds me alot of an old Genesis game called Kid Chameleon, but with way more heroes. Also has a very enjoyable sense of humor and fun tone to it. very awesome game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has its charm in its presentation and gimmicks, but that's all it has. While the gimmick is 88 different characters with powers bordering on useful to useless, the rest of the game is tedious and frustrating. Lets start with the most abhorrent problem, the screen is cluttered by an overlay of the main villain watching the characters move about the level. This is charming but ultimately makes it hard to see, especially since they animated the villain's goons running in the…

unlabelledView post →A brutally hard plattformer where you get 88 lives but they are each a different wacky character. Most have a gimmick which either helps or hinders your gameplay. Very few are OP as hell. This is only recommended for players which like a challenge and are okay if they favorite character will die early. Its kind of the ADD plattform game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game but it is absolutely terrible. This game has 1 strong element that's seemingly universally agreed on: The characters. The references are funny, their design looks great, and the different moves and gimmicks they have are really fun. There's clearly a lot of creativity and humour on display here in the character design. There are characters who can teleport, go invisible, create platforms for themselves, fly around, stop time, invert your controls. destroy the level and make…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty funny premise. You control 88 discount heroes and try to beat 88 levels.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately I should put a much negative review than I want to for this Game as it is enjoyable only for the variety of Characters so NOT for his story (bare to the bones: Big bad Alien try to make quick cash taking hostage the world and mistfists heroes try to stop him. THE END no more is given to you than that so DON'T expect: cutscenes, characters dialogue with the villain, epic ending (more a "roll the credits") and things like that) and NOT for his levels (with no story the game leave…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you liked Rogue Legacy you will love this game. Super cheeky and fun to play. I love the different characters and humor.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →88 Heroes. Old school arcade game play, with great voicework, fun characters and language. I'm filling the PS4 with small great games and this one put an immediate smile on my face. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iqR...
unlabelledView post →I absolutely love the idea behind this game. Having to play as a large group of quirky characters (based on pop culture icons) is a unique mechanic that sets this apart from most action platformers. The fact that there are 88 different playable characters and that they each have unique mechanics and appearances is wonderfully creative (a lot are quite funny, too). Some can fly or climb walls or jump high or break walls or teleport... There really is a lot of imagination that went into the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it works pretty good on gamepad! its awesome funny! its well done overall! so i quess you do the 88 levels without loosing all the 88 heroes , and the game is won! stupid as i am , that would take some time! Can only recommend this game! get it on sale maybe ! if ya got the extra money just get it straight! definately gonna spend some time on this and try get my 88 levels done!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a surprisingly fun, random nonsense action game. Basically it's a platformer where each stage has short time limit of 88 seconds, and you cycle through these random assortment of 88 heroes, some are definitely more useful than the others, so you're expected to die over and over again with the various random heroes. Don't expect to be entertained for too long or anything that's actually fairly designed though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Comedic rage platformer. Some of the heroes are useless and only exist to be cannon fodder. You have 3 different game modes unlockable by playing which are essentially normal with all 88 heroes aka 88 lives, hard which your selection of 8 heroes aka 8 lives, and survival which is 1 hero aka 1 life. You can gather coins and after gaining so many you can resurrect a dead hero aka get an extra life. Coins are everywhere and half are easy to get with half being hidden for specific heroes.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very good game, a careless operation will let you lose a hero, a total of 88 superheroes, you can also choose to resurrect the hero through extra points ,Really recommend you to play this game 。
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't think that I will absolutely ever beat this game, but I don't think that is really the point. Featuring 88 playable characters, each with their own personality and controls, this game feels less like a practicable, technical platformer and more like a grab-bag party game like Mario Party. The strong-suit of this game is rarely the levels or the bosses or what most platformers often shine through, and instead in the overpoweringly awesome aesthetic. This aesthetic, if you are in it for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →88 Heroes lives and dies on the novelty of its core gimmick, the titular cast of bizarre, offbeat heroes. Fortunately, each hero has different properties, not all of them helpful (several of the 88 Heroes have control schemes designed to hinder you). Learning the quirks and abilities of each hero is the primary source of fun. The actual game consists of 84 normal levels and four boss fights. Most levels provide you with many options for proceeding, though certain characters are better suited to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →88 Heroes to play with...88 Seconds to reach the end of the level...88 Levels... 88 Heroes is a classic, silly platformer and (for me) an instant addiction. £12.99 for this - you’d really be doing yourself a disservice if you’re a platforming fan and don’t grab a copy now!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →what did they mean by the title 🤔
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →when i was little, we only had 1 hero and that was ronald reagan. he's not in this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is awesome! The characters are unique and funny. Their abilities are diverse... some can even cause you to cheat and circumvent the level in different ways. While all the achievements are comically centered around the number 8--like die 8 times, 88 times, etc.--multiple playthroughs will be required. This is my only gripe about the game. I do not want to attempt 88 rooms to see if I can make it with 8 heroes left, ultimately fail, and then have to start that attempt all the way from…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very interesting idea and some heroes. This game is quite hard but I recommend to play it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No point having 88 heroes if they all die and you are left with 1. Especially considering the fact you just keep restarting with your last hero. And it better be a good one otherwise the levels are basically impossible. Get it if its on sale for 90%, the novelty of trying all the heroes makes up for 2 bucks you spend on it, otherwise you pay to suffer. But even then you die with half the heroes in the first 5 seconds of the level so you can never try them again. This is like that time on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You die until you get the broken time stop/flying hero and then you win the whole game. It's not very good but it can be fun for a while to try and use the hero you got. Not worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm torn on this one. On the one hand, it's endlessly inventive, funny, and with great gaming references both new and old. On the other hand, the actual game isn't great. The controls are not as smooth as I'd like, and some of the heroes are downright annoying to use. I'm going to give it a thumbs up because I applaud what the devs are doing, but honestly don't buy it unless you just want a bit of a chuckle cycling through the different heroes...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The framing device of the villain hammering away at the keys at the bottom of the screen made this a standout title when I first saw it at MCM Expo back in 2017, and it can be enjoyable to give another run a go. But as far as "quirky platformers with a varied cast of wacky characters that the player is forced to use at random" go, this one goes a bit too far on the quirkiness aspect, with some of them toeing way too close to the line between "you have to overcome this limitation" and "makes…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a cool gimmick if you get it on sale. Not much depth but can be fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the worst games I think I've ever attempted to suffer through in my life, 88 Heroes is a cruel joke the developers are playing on the player. Of the titular 88 Heroes, only a handful have a moveset that even permit them to get through the hellishly generated levels that are rendered crushingly unfair through terrible design such as unavoidable instant-death traps, frustrating enemy placement, and the fact that the screen is so zoomed in (and frequently obstructed by the UI, on purpose…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hilarious. I feel like this game might have influenced James Gunn's approach to the marketing and opening scene of The Suicide Squad. Despite it being a rather bland "move through the gauntlet" level turnstile type game that sits about 10 tiers beneath the likes of Meatboy, the sheer amount of variety in characters makes up for it. Challenging enough to keep trying yet cheesy enough to know it's place. Worth a purchase if found cheap.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i absolutely love this game. the premise of having 88 heroes, 88 levels, 88 seconds per level and 88 minutes in total to finish the game is brilliant. at first you may think this is really hard to do. but keep at it. i can now do the whole game with atleast 20 or 30 minutes spare at the end. its 1 of my favourite games to just pick up and play, i turn the sound off. put on headphones and spotify. and thats my prefered method to play this game. definately worth it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a bad little platformer.. the developer has certainly nailed the look & feel of an oldschool home computer game from the late 80's/early 90's.. perhaps a little too well - the game suffers from choppy framerates when the screen gets busy (I doubt this effect was intended). I really like the large collection of satirical 2nd-rate heroes. It can be frustratingly difficult at times, doubt I would have ever finished the 88 mode if it weren't for the good old 'backup save' trick ;) 6.5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A funny platformer with 88 characters you can play as. Some are fun, with relatively meaningful super powers. The majority have superpowers that aren't exactly extraordinary or useful, but it's a lot of fun and fast paced.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →tl;dr: This is a "soft" yes. I can't recommend this game to everyone. 88 Heroes is a throwback to older-style platforming games. This is a good thing in that there's a lot of nostalgia value in playing as characters that parody pop culture from the '80s, '90s, and even the '00s. Every character is a reference to one or more real people or fictional characters. There really are 88 of them and they're all completely different. Characters have different attacks, gimmicks, jump height, speeds, and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very quirky and interesting but not really for me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played as a facehugger from half-life, a psychotic gerbil and a guy who could do all the moves from street fighter. 10/10 would buy again while on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now some may look at my review time on this game, and think that I haven't played much of this game, but I also owned it on the switch originally. This in essence is a platformer that sees you using 88 different heroes, some better than others. While there is not much of a story here, the game encourages expirementation as which hero you get is totally randomized. each level is brief and unique. Overall while not a deep game, it is quite fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →88 Heroes is an arcade style game developed by Bitmap Bureau and published by Rising Star Games in 2017, released on the pc, Xbone, and PS4. 88 Heroes is the spiritual successor to that 8 game the narrator talks about in The Stanley Parable. At 8 AM on August 8th, 1988, Dr. H8 announces to the citizens of earth that if he doesn't receive 88 octillion US dollars withing 88 minutes, he will throw 88 nukes at the planet from atop his 88 story space tower! To thwart his evil plan, Dr. Cupid (Dr.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay: Interesting to see how all of the 88Heroes can change how you complete a level. It is a very challenging game not going to lie and most of all FUN! If you enjoy speedrunning or game that are from the NES/SNES period this might just be up your alley. Visuals/Sounds: Its got that pixelly looking art but also has its own artstyle that makes it feel unique and tbh works very well with what the game is trying to be. Score: Buy it if you like good games/10
