What people are saying
Split verdict: many love the survival loop, but others hate the devs' direction and price.
Many players praise the addictive survival-crafting loop, especially with friends, and the extensive modding community. One player calls it a '10/10 no better survival crafting game out there' (R7), while another notes '4k hours and never getting old' (R15). [7][15]
However, many criticize the developers for frequent, regressive updates, a high $45 price, and alleged mistreatment of a content creator. One player says 'the devs are called The Fun Pimps because they choose what fun you're allowed to have' (R35), and another alleges 'Fun Pimps is suing him for copyright infringement' (R33). Some feel the game has lost its sandbox identity. [35][33][26]

60 of 344 · most liked firstI have thousands of hours in 7 Days to Die, and that is exactly why I have a hard time recommending the direction the game has taken. The core problem is simple: 7 Days to Die has slowly moved away from being an open-ended survival sandbox and toward a game that increasingly tells you how it wants you to play. Older versions felt like they gave you a world and one objective: Survive. Build underground. Take over a house. Build a fortress. Mine, farm, craft, loot, ignore traders, or play…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You gotta commend the Fun Pimps, they're really dedicated to making their game worse with every update! I've never seen someone do it with such passion and vigor, it's frankly inspiring. Associating with Behavior Interactive is truly the cherry on top. Now we can have two sets of clueless people behind the wheel for the price of one. I'll save the AI art for dessert.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to like this game. Note that key word there, though. Used to. Then the Devs started messing with it. Starting changing things around because people were 'trivializing' things. "Oh, people are settling near water! That trivializes water gathering! Fine, NO MORE gathering water in jars, you just eat the jars like Stardew!" - News flash, Devs, people have settled near water literally since before we were even humans. That's a basic part of survival, and you're mad about people doing it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →until the devs, mainly Joel and Richard Huenink, understand what used to make the game fun and unique then i cant recommend the game in its current state. the sudden inclusion of paid skins that were meant to be free in game content, the constant removal of key survival mechanics, the repeated changes to how the zombies play and patching out multiple in game strategies so that we play how the devs want us to makes the game not enjoyable. i used to enjoy the game but the constant and negative…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve put so many hours into this game, but where the devs are taking it is pure trash. It used to be an open sandbox where you decided how to survive on your own terms. Now, you’re literally forced to vacuum up crafting magazines and grind endless trader quests. They completely reworked zombie AI, so now base building isn't even about surviving a horde anymore it's just about cheesing their pathfinding algorithm. Instead of actually optimizing the game, the devs spent 10 years rewriting the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game in its current state is worse than Alpha 4, which was released over 10 years ago. Don’t waste your time or money on this trash. It feels like the developers were high and drunk at the same time when they made their gameplay-changing decisions because the game is no longer a zombie survival experience. It’s just a joke. You don’t even feel like you’re surviving a zombie apocalypse anymore, and there’s no atmosphere left. This is so lame. Don’t waste your time on this. Go play…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do not support developers who frequently change the state of the game, and threaten to sue content creators over something that was entirely within their control - i.e. JaWoodle. If you never played the game - it's decent with friends. Though, it has a 13 year history of back and forth development. It's the game that's been in Alpha for 12 years, with the release version not feeling much different than Alphas. Also, they doubled the price of the game last year, and it is NOT worth $45. Maybe…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was my Dad's favourite game. Unfortunately we lost him just before Xmas from cancer. Was still playing at age 74. I bought this for him way back around alpha 10/11 to play some MP with myself and some friends, and while we burned out he kept going with almost 3k hours. So it's a thumbs up from me if only due to the memory of walking past his PC to see how his base was coming along etc. He knew more about the game than I did. So thanks for the memories. Cheers
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Devs aggressively patch every solution to a problem you as a player could have. Not in the way that they fix the problem, mind you. Able to collect water relatively easily? Patched, now you have to make a slow as hell dew collector. Make multiple of them to get an ample supply of water early on? Patched, now they somehow attract the screamer zombies that summon small hordes at an alarming rate. Want to build a quality base? Patched, every single zombie knows the weakest link of your base and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The downfall of The Fun Pimps needs to be studied. The fact that they can have the formula for a fantastic game then mess it up by betraying their community time and time again. The Fun Pimps are just another greedy corpo dev group at this point, no point in supporting someone who turns their backs on gamers for money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool game! Very fun! You've already missed the window of time when it was best. To be honest, the game hasn't received a single update in a good number of years. 1.0 and 2.0 releases basically just overhauled the game's graphics, added in $10 skins, and slowed progression down significantly. They also doubled the game's price pretty recently (from $25 to $45). Get it on sale for the original price and I think you'll be more than satisfied with it. Game gives you access to basically any…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ten years of playing this game—through the ups and downs, countless streams and videos, and all the friends and groups of friends I’ve bought it for. This has always been a game I’ve come back to, no matter what. Unfortunately, I have to say that I can’t anymore. Between Behaviour Interactive, TFP, and what feels like an overall disregard for the very fan base that helped make this game what it is, I’ve simply reached my limit. Whether it’s the modding community, the content creators, or the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game, absolutely not worth $45. Devs are out of their minds. Recommend on sale for anything less than $20. Asking for more on a game that's underbaked and dated since before full release is pure greed. EDIT: For additional context, I purchased this game originally in October 2014. I have 420 hours in total over the course of 12 years. I am saying for 12 years of development that I have witnessed and been a part of it is not worth more than $20. I have seen slow drip feeding and rollback of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →JaWoodle was a huge supporter of this game and now Fun Pimps is suing him for copyright infringement after they gave him the wrong version of the game, it was not his mistake. I refuse to continue to support or play this game any further. Try Human Host instead lots of fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For years, the gameplay loop was simple: the devs buff the zombies, and the players build a better trap. However, the shift in AI behavior—specifically the "structural engineers" update where zombies perfectly calculate the weakest path to the player—changed the vibe. The Loss of Creativity: When zombies can sniff out a single missing block or a specific pathing exploit, it forces players into a "meta" build (like the "killing corridor" or "pole jumping"). The Prefab Paradox: You hit the nail…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR; The devs are called The Fun Pimps because they choose what fun you're allowed to have in their game, and they make you pay too much to have it. Fun game to play with friends, but every update TFP adds a new bit to the zombie AI to try to "fight" horde bases that they decided aren't fun to them. This leads to needing to either google a new horde base every update or just give up on horde bases entirely and just wait out the horde night on a roof somewhere. No matter how many recycled…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With its more recent updates, 7 Days to Die feels like a game that’s still unsure of what it wants its core experience to be. While the developers continue to rework major systems in the name of balance and accessibility, the end result is a gameplay loop that, at least for me, has become far less enjoyable than it used to be. Many of the latest updates focus heavily on restructuring progression and perks, pushing players into a more guided, almost checklist driven experience. Early and mid…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played 7 Days to Die for 4,378 hours. I have been a super fan since I discovered the game a long time ago. I am no longer a fan. Not because of the game, though the direction of development has left me longing for the pure open world survival concept it used to be. What bothers me is that a corporation went after one of The Fun Pimps biggest fans and content creators, Jawoodle. They are bullies. I can no longer play a game I love because they are bullies. That is all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I almost can’t believe I’m writing this review. I have been playing **7 Days to Die since ALPHA 7**. I was there when this game was barely anything compared to what it is today. I was there when The Fun Pimps were digging into their own pockets, trying desperately to get people to give their game a chance, asking the community for support and trying to build something from the ground up. And I supported them. I fell in love with the idea behind 7 Days to Die. I saw the potential in it when…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game but Fun Pimps are absolutely tweaking. 45 dollars is way to much, would recommend not to buy until a sale is up. I bought this game for 15$. 45 is way to much Fun Pimps.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing this for over a decade at this point. I've held off on reviewing because I waffle back and forth on how I feel but the inclusion of AI generated images in the latest update doesn't really make me want to return. The game is fun from a building perspective, but outside that can be a slog.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I Used to Love this game, the game was always very fun, even if the Devs where always poor at communication, it was a fun open sandbox that let you pick your own path in how you played it. if you would have asked me several years ago if i would recommend it it would have been a solid yes! now we fast forward, Devs have made the game far worse, now plays more like a railroad, every play becomes the same, you know exactly where all the traders will be as they now locked to biomes. learn by…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its sad when a single dude can make a mod thats still on version 1.4 thats 1000000 times better than every single update that fun pimps can give this game..... the only reason you should buy this game is to play DARKNESS FALLS mod. The actual dev team doesnt know how to make a realistic survival game sorry not sorry.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DEVS: Stop trying to solve problems that never existed in the first place. Your updates push away old and new players, most of as came for a classic survival game. Accept your community's criticism and revert changes that people didn't find fun. Don't do half measures, fully revert them and keep your fans happy. Don't kill your own game unless that's what you're going for.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played this game on and off for nearly a decade. I'll burn out on it (mainly because I throw myself into it and spend so much time in it) but after I buy a new game, spend a few weeks playing it, I always come back to this with a new idea I want to try or start a new game with a new version and see what all has changed. The premise of the game is nearly perfect (build yourself up, arm yourself with better weapons than just close range items, build a better way to protect yourself every 7…

Then they just deleted my post and gave me a warn. Well, if this is how TFP treat their players, they think player's advice is not important at all, that's ok, I'll totally stop record and upload 7DTD video. I'm disappoint and upset to TFP. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →782 hours played. I've been with this game since its early Early Access days, and that's exactly why this review hurts to write. The biggest problem is that the game has gradually abandoned what made it unique in the first place. The new skill progression system based on finding and reading books makes absolutely no sense. Instead of learning through experience, practice, or survival, your character becomes stronger because they happened to find the correct piece of literature. It feels…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game but im not going to recommend based on the insane price tag. This game is 13-14 YEARS old. It has been plagued by performance issues for multiplayer even up till the present date. I have some 600 hours on this game. It is fun, especially so with friends, but $45? Nope. Go buy Ark survival evolved on sale for dirt cheap, or valheim, or the amazing Palworld (massive updates). There are way better survival games at bargain prices. Seriously, who came up with this price tag?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They got bought out after making a bunch of stupid changes no one wanted. This game is akin to a neglected daughter who grew up to become a career stripper and her deadbeat parents come and visit her to give her some drugs every few months, which she thinks she enjoys but is just so harmful to her.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →100% not worth the money, games gets worse with each update Devs are committed to ruining any unique idea the players base will have and try to force them to play the game their extremely boring and tedious way They removed the ability to make underground bases by having the zombies burrow through the earth like mice through bread (they considered spending irl hours digging a base as an "exploit" 🙄", you can no longer use a vehicle to survive day 7 due to them deciding to spawn like 20…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sold to DBD devs. Who turned DBD to ♥♥♥♥. Game gets worse as it gets more updates. 100 hours of gameplay over the course of a year. New content, almost nonexistant. Constant rework of mechanics for no ######## reason? Yup. This game looks like it will be the equivalent of beta for the next 5 years while they continue to rework how survival mechanics work instead of cleaning up the jank af combat or adding real content to the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve been playing this game so long, I remember when it looked like a literal potato. Watching 7 Days to Die evolve is like watching a kid grow up, it looks much better now, but it still has the same annoying habits. I remember when crafting was totally different, zombies looked like rubber toys, and big cities were just a dream. Today? The graphics are finally up to 2026 standards, the POIs are incredibly detailed. Sometimes I miss the old simplicity. The devs have a habit of "fixing"…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't believe how expensive this game is now. I literally bought a 2-pack for my brother and I for a DOLLAR each copy. How is this 60 dollars now??? Get it on sale and it's worth it - not for the game it actually is, but for the endless overhaul mods that have been made for it. Overhaul mods make this game awesome, and there are tons of them. Base game you can get some good hours out of, but with overhaul mods you can easily sink 2k hours into this, so it makes it more worth the INSANE price…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7 Days to Die has completely destroyed the survival fantasy I used to have about myself. I thought if society collapsed, I would be resourceful, tough, maybe even the respected leader of a small group of survivors. Turns out I would spend the apocalypse rummaging through kitchen cabinets for canned chili, eating boiled meat in a shack made of crooked wooden blocks, and getting mauled to death because I forgot to reload my pipe shotgun. Every seven days, the game gives me plenty of warning that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fine game. It's not amazing but I've played worse. Everything works on a functional level but the game feels kind of empty and directionless, and the replacement of developing skills by doing with skill books discourages you from doing anything besides looting and killing zombies. Which is fine, but it would be nice to have some more emphasis on the survival side of the game. I am also disappointed that after returning to game after five or so years, there is very little new content like…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 13 years of development, the biggest threat they added were Funpimp developers adding/removing features non stop or 'rebalancing' everything every update (and don't even get me started on the pathing and base building issues). positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do recommend but so many issues with the game as a whole, and issues that weren't a problem in the beginning. The game for one is fun, slightly addictive but the Devs have seriously gone backwards with support and improvements. 7 Days used to be a janky, but great experience where early-mid tier items were accessable but not world breaking, but now, access to even very basic weapons seems to be a serious struggle. I haven't for a very long time with this game (nearly 10 years now) ever been…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It’s clear the developers have a specific, narrow vision for how this game "should" be played, and if you don't play that way, they'll nerf it into the ground. At this point, it feels like they’re actively trying to drive players away with baffling balancing decisions and artificial difficulty. I’m only still here because of the "sunk cost" of my invested hours. Save yourself the headache.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →still no end game or reason to play, once you hit level cap its just base building and resource hoarding until they release another update and delete your world, the devs have been undoing and redoing mechanics instead of working on an actual engaging end game loop, it draws you in and leaves you goin now what do we do. Not worth 45$ maybe 20$

Even on the easiest settings, the game is DESIGNED to be unfun, the enemies unsatisfying to fight, and the looting pointless until you've invested hours into a character to have the levels to be able to get the perk to THEN, MAYBE, get something that isnt just wood or rotten flesh. Riveting gameplay /s. Don't get this, find…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concept of Early Access clearly states: “Early Access is not a way to crowdfund development of your product.” Yet when a company keeps a game trapped in Early Access or “alpha development” for more than a decade, that entire concept deserves to be questioned — and companies that abuse it should face consequences. The Fun Pimps have joined a growing list of developers who launch a game in Early Access, sell a substantial number of copies, and then allow development to stagnate into a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as I enjoy 7 Days to Die, I wish more love had been put into it. This is an incomplete game that never should have left early access. I believe if the devs had a more clear idea of the direction they wanted to go with it and put more time into improving the game play, it could have been worth the insane price increase. Good game to play with friends, best when bought on sale!
