60 of 175 · most liked firstXlll is a rare gem of classic fps/stealth with comic book frames based ironically on a comic book from the 80s where the protagonist finds himself with a forgotten memory and from the start he finds himself in a game of intrigue and conspiracy to find his identity. Unfortunately, the ending adds a string to a sequel that has never been made outside the comics. The composition is a top notch noir with a certain degree of elevation depending on the certainty of being stealthy or found. It's a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fun picking up classic games sometimes to see how much you remember them and also to check how they fare on newer systems (especially on a new OS). The original XIII was released 21 years ago. And by original I mean there is a remake available (hence the title calling this one the classic). The developer was Ubisoft back then and this was created in Unreal Engine 2. Now, this is based on a Belgian comic with the same name. The story revolves around someone who suffers from amnesia. You…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gunplay may be nothing special, but every bullet makes the comic-book world burst into motion. Its striking visual style leaves a far stronger impression than the shooter beneath it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will address technical issues in the bottom of the review. Mr. Rowland… It's been such a long time. More than 20 years have passed since I first played this game. I came back to settle some unfinished business, so don't expect an unbiased opinion from me. Back in 2005, I owned this game on 4 CDs. The edition looked expensive, though that still didn't save me from a game crash during the Church mission. I will be honest: when I replayed the game recently, for brief a moment, I genuinely…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Always loved this game its great to go back and play this Play great on steamdeck no issues I know it says unsupported but it should say verified or at least playable
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →bought it because I wanted to remember back when Ubisoft was good. Dumb idea. Can't even launch the game because of an account issue with UBISOFT's pointless third party launcher. Tried for two weeks to fix it with their customer service. That didn't work. All I have is a headache. Ubisoft sucks. Don't buy it. it'll just let you down.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →XIII is a unique gem in the world of video games, and if you’ve never had the pleasure of experiencing it, you’re in for a treat. Released in 2003, this first-person shooter distinguished itself with its striking cel-shaded graphics, one of the first examples of the technique in gaming. It gives the game a vibrant, comic book-like quality that draws players into its stylish narrative. The story revolves around a man suffering from amnesia, who finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy involving…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its an old classic nice FPS game , Although it's graphics old but comic style. I heard that this game got remake but full of bugs and glitch's. So , play the classic edition.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →XIII is an amazing first-person shooter from 2003 and is already a classic. It still holds up well today. The story is told in comic style and the gameplay also has many comic elements, which works very well and makes the game unique. The soundtrack is very good and contributes to the special atmosphere of the game. It is a shame that we never got a sequel.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has a lot of problems: starting with stupid spread when shooting, continuing with boring and imbalanced bosses, ending with lousy optimization. However, visual style, atmosphere, elaboration and presentation of the story, very competent rotation of stealth and action moments, variety of locations - makes the game really interesting and memorable. I don't know what they did in the remake, but the original is definitely worth going through
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a Clunky FPS with awful stealth missions that you must to do to progress, gun play dos not reward skill or bullets spraying in a fun way, bosses are cheap bullet sponges with hit scan weapons. the spy thriller story is kind of mid and it ends on a cliff hanger that will never be told in the end, as this game was so bad no one wanted to make the 2nd half. your better off reading the comics this game is based on than playing this game. it's a shame as the comic style fps does look great but it's…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played one section, saved it, came back and hard to start all over again. Played even further, saved it, came back and had to start all over again. Maybe there's a fix but from what I played it's not mind blowing enough for me worry about.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This version scales down the UI at higher resolutions despite them literally being in the options menu, plus theres really annoying mouse acceleration you cant disable. Honestly better to play the console versions
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →XIII Classic (originally released 2003) is a first-person shooter based on the Belgian spy graphic novel series. Generally speaking, the game is more an action than a sneak game in my opinion, mostly due to mechanics and balancing issues, with a distinct style. The story evolves around the main character (XIII) who wakes up at a beach with amnesia and tries to recover the knowledge about himself. Just shortly after waking up and being helped to the next life guard station, the character is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Looks like a cool game but it's unplayable because current steam port is broken
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game and still holds up to this day. You can patch multiplayer back in as well as modern pc support via InsideXiii.com
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The cel-shading and action panels remain a visual masterstroke. It’s like playing through a European graphic novel. Nice old classic FPS.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →XIII – Classic is a distinctive first-person shooter originally developed by Ubisoft Paris Studio and published by Microids, and it remains one of the most stylistically daring shooters ever released on PC. Based on the Belgian graphic novel series of the same name, the game places players in the role of an amnesiac protagonist who awakens on a secluded beach with no memory of his identity, save for a mysterious Roman numeral “XIII” tattooed on his body. From this simple but effective hook, the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →XIII is a very stylish, engaging, and loving crafted shooter, from the games Environmental and Weapon variety, to its engaging story, you find yourself consistently engaged as the game consistently offers new ideas and fresh visuals at a pretty decent pace. It’s cel-shaded visuals are also very appealing contrasting the dull and grey shooters of the time and even being a fresh of breath air now. I highly recommend checking this one out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its very stylish but it's very dated. It's not a long game, 6-8 hours or so. And once you finish it, that's it. The game resets and you cannot go back and replay anything. So keep that in mind that once you finish the last mission you CANNOT GO BACK. The story is full of esponiage cliches and I love it. Adam West voices one of the main characters. The story ends very abruptly on a cliffhanger and there is no sequel. However, the game is based of a long running comic series so read that if you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BANG! BANG! KABOOM! XIII is a pretty stylish 2003 FPS game that feels like a combination of Half-Life, Hitman and Metal Gear Solid with graphic novel visuals. There's an interesting plot with spies, conspiracies and government secrets, awkward dialogue that makes you chuckle, and over the top comic book effects everywhere. Grappling hook swinging, stealth, run and gun gameplay, it has it all! It's a very linear game with little to no exploration off the beaten path. The first couple of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →♥♥♥♥ THIS GAME.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my all-time favorite games and the PC port is good enough. The visual style is quirky and holds up very well if you like cel-shaded style graphics. Shooting people in the head is very satisfying because it gives you a quick little comic strip looking pop-up. I think that the weakest part of the game is the amount of stealth sections which can be quite frustrating the first time around. The story is very silly, but you do get Adam West playing one of the main characters. The game ends…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game: Very cool and underrated FPS with creative ideas and awesome cel-shading graphics. German Version: Ben Becker-ASMR
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A stylish cel-shaded FPS, it's got a comicbook-inspired artstyle with onomatopoeic effects (from the sounds of the firearms to the scream of dying enemies). The story's pretty intriguing (you play an amnesiac that's been framed with the assassination of the US president, and you need to get to the bottom of it while being hunted down by the CIA and the FBI). It's got great action, some stealth segments (my least favorite, but they fit the spy fiction), great voice acting (David Duchovny plays…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good game for it's age. Fun story and very nice graphical style. I would recommend playing this over the remake
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grab this and go on PCGamingWiki to play the game at modern resolutions and with other fixes (FOV, 120Hz, etc.) instead of grabbing the awful remake. The shooting is alright for a game from this era. The game is a bit on the easy side, but some of the checkpoints are at annoying spots. I recommend grabbing this game for the decent plot, and if you want to know what happens after the game (there was never a sequel made, unfortunately), the game is based off a comic series of the same name, which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A first-person shooter where you play as a mysterious commando, set to a dynamic noir-inspired soundtrack, a joy to play again and again. One of the most iconic cel-shaded games of its generation, reminiscent of comic books XIII. A game with a good story that can be completed in under 10 hours. Don't waste your time playing the remake; the best version is still the one developed by Ubisoft Paris.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →glazed for what it is
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, kinda James Bond-ish style. Runs not smooth on modern PC tho, but I've seen a possible solution at Guides section on Community Hub.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game mode "The Hunt", where you chase a high-pitched, singing, hooded Skeleton, is worth the price on its own.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FLY his NAME WAS JASON FLY!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one’s a rare gem—back when shooters had style, weird pacing, and jazz-funk soundtracks instead of 45 minutes of tutorial and a battle pass. The comic book art style still holds up, the music slaps, and the whole thing feels like stepping into a pulp spy novel with a cracked CRT filter over it. I skipped the remake (for obvious reasons), but even this version crashed on me more than a kid learning to ride a bike. Still worth it. It’s a rare kind of game you don’t see much these days—clunky…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game. Even 22 yrs after i last played it through on PS2. i added upscaled textures along with the XIII installer that contains fixes and better controls. I also forced antialiasing and anisotropic filtering through Nvidia control panel. For the time period, the development is impressive. Great level design. Good voice acting. Good audio. For a game that released before Half Life 2, its pretty damn good. Dated in ways but the attention to detail by the devs i find admirable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the comic book aesthetic, it feels a bit rigid, but the shaders sell it. Reminds of me of fallen aces.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it is a really good game with a good story
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SPOILERS AHEAD I discovered this game thanks to "JarekTheGamingDragon" review of the XIII remake, and what he said about the original convinced me enough to get the game. A cult FPS, released in the early 2000? Sign me in! Let me start with this game's biggest positive, this game is not inspired by comics, this game IS a comic, in the way it's presented, there's just so much style, clearly a lot of the development went into making this as stylized as possible, and it delivers. The game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I lost track of how many times I played this game. Disregard my steam hours, I had this as a physical copy back in the day. Amazing game, it has it all, combat , stealth, intriguing story, GREAT soundtrack... The artstyle is what makes this game so unique, too. It's not only the cel-shading, you also have comic panels, speech bubbles... This game tries very hard to look like a comic book, and it succeeds at it. That's why the graphics hold up so well even to this day. You have to get a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Better than Red Dead 2.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →XIII - Classic Classic Stealth FPS with a Great but Inconclusive Story Worth a try! XIII is one of the most distinctive FPS of its time, thanks to its comic-book visual style and unique gameplay mechanics such as its stealth takedowns, the use of improvised weapons, onomatopoeia visual cues and its comic panel scenes. It was one of the first FPS games I tried and a very memorable game experience in my childhood. It’s true that XIII is not a perfect game, as it has many gameplay limitations and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a classic to replay from my childhood. Please buy this version, the remake or remaster or however you want to call it version. Is not even close to this gem. It says unsupported, but it works just fine after downloading a controller setting. Playing on steamdeck BTW.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pc mouse keeps ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ as soon as i try to do anything the mouse drops below and refuses to do anything but fall to the bottom of the screen game is unplayable
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fun fps game with unique visuals and decent music. Game doesn't feel boring at all, pace is really good and stealth missions breaks repetition. Story was interesting too, I didn't feel lost or bored from it. There are some issues though: Save system is weird even for a old game. Game has checkpoints but if you exit without saving the game you will lose your progression. It's best practice to save the game via F5 in each checkpoint. You will need some patches to run the game optimally…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good story and very fun, however i do recommend playing on an actual ps2
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →people talking about the remake as if it was this grand affront to humanity had me thinking the game would've had more to offer than this. it's literally just the art style that makes it worth noting.💀 the large arsenal of weapons with the ability to use scattered chairs, ashtrays, and so forth as melee weapons is appealing until you try to use any of it. melee fighting feels like complete trash with chairs sometimes missing at point blank range whereas it felt like on another an ashtray…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good game over all. you may need to change the config files to match your screen resolution but that just it. i will recommend it if you like James bond style story with a cell shade graphics. Its a first person shooter. 6/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good game, one of my favourite from this era, but it has a ton of asterisks. Buy this when it's on sale, because it used to be 5.99 but they bumped the price to 12.99 (That's the first *). Then you'll want to download the "XIII All-In-One Installer (HD / Multiplayer ready)" patch. Get's yah fullscreen and the multiplayer with bots! (Remember them). If you want to get this working on controller go into local files, System -> DefUser and change "bMaxMouseSmoothing=True" to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is really a hidden gem, never heard of this game until i watched a reviewer on Youtube cover it. The art style is what attracted me the most, its an awesome blend of cell shading/comic book style onomatopoeia. Very Boomer shooter-esque mechanics that remind me of Wolfenstine or Doom with innovative mechanics. The art makes me think of GTA posters or the MTV Spider-man cartoon. Having both David Duchovny and Adam West as voice actors is really awesome too. Its a great James Bond style…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Though it need some mods to work properly on modern systems this game really is as great as people say it is, though i can't begin to imagine how the people that played this game when it came out feel now still waiting for a sequel.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good if you are patient. There are some mandatory stealth sections that made me want to huck my laptop across the room.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i liked it maybe the next game will come out in another 21 years
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not the greatest game ever, but distinct enough to guarantee a playthrough.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know why valve say: Not Steam Deck supported because it runs perfectly on Deck, i first played it on "original" Xwokes console. One of the best games ever made. Ending give me tears because: You know why! XIII 2 for president man...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game on my XBOX (2002), and had a lot of fun with it. I read that the remake was bad, so I went for the classic port of the game. It works very well! I mostly played the storyline, so I'll talk about that in my review. The missions have diverse enough goals, equipment and different approaches that each one feels unique. The storyline is interesting - slowly discovering who is involved in a conspiracy and diving into the rabbit hole of the operation behind it kept me invested.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun game, that has aged quite well, with simple yet quite challenging gameplay, and an interesting story. This game has quite a distinct charm to it, with a very nice look. I will admit the checkpoint system can be incredibly unfair and unfun at times, causing me to have to replay rather large sections, but other than that I have no major complaints. Something I definitely suggest checking out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very good game its a shame a sequel was never made this classic absolutely dogwalks the remake too
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really don't care.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot recommend most people consider this game. Mainly due to technical reasons. The game is very old, which you can tell because you are only able to have the game in 4:3, and the game freaks out on modern systems. None of the cutscenes had any audio, and the mouse was extremely inconsistent in menus. The game literally refused to close out and prevented any of my Windows functions from working. Be warned if you play this game, it is going to be very janky. The game itself is decent. It…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I expect this game gonna be good, the rating in imdb 8.2 and steam has 80% positive review but sadly this game is dissapointing. The concept of comic based game is totally awesome butthe mission kinda boring for me. The item cannot be carry on in every 3 mission so there is no upgrade on this game.
