Developer TNT Team

WWII GI is a first-person shooter video game set during the events of World War II. Developed by TNT Team and published by GT Interactive, the game was released in 1999 as the direct sequel to NAM, which was released the year prior. Oh yes! Another FPS classic. This one is obscure just like the game Nam that also on steam. Made by the same Developers. Uses the Build 3d engine. I have played this game for hours and hours before this steam release. The game has many maps, and two campaigns to finish. The weapons are a great selection of WW2 weapons and items. There are objectives in some maps so its not just running around shooting enemies. Levels are nicely made and very diverse from open fields, towns, trenches, etc. You…

!!Important Note!! If you insist on buying this abomination of a game, then you will a source port called eduke32, which will make the game more culpable (link below). What I liked about the game The game is short. Some unintentional humour. The level design was ok; could have been improved with more exploration, secrets, and better covered invisible walls. Variety of enemies; like SS troops, tanks, gun nests, and snipers; there's also air strikes and the occasional bomb drop in…

Not as terrible level design as NAM, but still mediocre game. 90% of enemies being hitscan soldiers with MP40s is just terrible. Even on easiest difficulty they will chew through you like nothing. Use eDuke32 if you really want to play this.

WAR IS HELL (War is less hellish if you use eduke32 instead of the supplied dosdox configuration, guide available on steam. Also works with NAM on steam. Trust me, it really cuts down on the amount of time it takes you to capture the beach on D-day...)

Note/caveat: Steam doesn't log my hours for playing with EDuke32, probably sank about four hours into playing both single player campaigns. This review mirrors my experience with playing with EDuke32, which I recommend using for this and NAM. World War II GI sucks, man. A while back I wrote about a game called NAM, which started as a Duke Nuken Vietnam-themed total conversion. It got a commercial release, kinda flopped (I think), and then got re-released on Steam. Basically, NAM is silly as…

It's more of NAM but now in WW2 skin. Here is how it compares to NAM: Pros: - Levels aren't filled with bushes through which enemies can see perfectly - Some attempt at scripted spectatle of war that made WW2 shooters famous. Some friendlies shoot back and sometimes you defend points with them, even if they are really bad. Cons: - Strange morale system which increases your spread if you take damage and tightens it if you pick up booze and cigars. Stupid Americans. - Medkit system where instead…

World War II GI is a first-person shooter set during the events of World War II, developed by TNT Team and published by GT Interactive Software and released in 1999 as the direct sequel to NAM. World War II GI was later re-released on Steam at the end of 2015, with Retroism and Night Dive Studios as the publishers. The Steam version of World War GI also has the Platoon Leader Expansion which contains three single player levels. One WWII Pacific and two Vietnam War scenarios with many new…

This classicer drops you into Normandy on D-Day as part of the 101st Airborne. You fight through beaches, hedgerows, ruined villages and bunkers, dodging snipers and machine gun fire. There are about 30 levels, each with varied terrain and tactical challenges. The visuals and atmosphere are rough-around-the-edges as they used to be back in the day but they do a good job of conveying fear and urgency. Today you can also play this game in virtual reality, you'll need RazeXR which you can find…

As a kid In 1999 when this came out I bought it because my PC was bad. Now 20 years later I replayed it out of nostalgia...and I feel shellshocked. To my suprise these games (this and NAM) are pretty good in giving you a real stressfull and disturbing war atmosphere. Combined with the ultimate shooter game engine they're grimy fun to play. The blocky architecture helps. If you like oldish, casual filter games, that experiment with the form and give you a unique experience, play this. BTW,…

It's more a mod of Duke Nukem 3D than a game. It tries to be a WWII simulation, but it's very broken and not very professional for a "game" that costs money. If it was free, it would have been okay. Eduke32 not included, you have to download it or play on Dosbox.

Legit one of the worst games I've ever played. The over the top lethality would be awesome given the setting and themes, but World War II GI is only hard by way of stuffing every nook and cranny with soldiers to the point that every level is less "FPS" and more "Simon Says". You just have to memorize where everyone is each time you die and constantly be quicksaving. One of the worst parts of the game is that the artificial nature of the props and enviroments is badly evident Everything is…

I expected nothing and somehow was still dissapointed. Once I solved technical issues, I was aghast how poorly thought over this game is, clearly made with "players will savescum through it anyway" mindset First issue is ammunition. Can't pick enemy weapons. Can't pick even friendlies weapons. In game where you play as one-man army, and move down what seem like entire battalions. Second are weapons: you would think game where player dies in 2 -3 hits from half map away will promote long-range…

This game is just Horrid. That D DAY level ayy. For a first level it borders on PAINFULL and near Impossable which just kils agame like this. Even if it was halfway decent this game came out when Half life and quake were at there PEAK. this game is awfull Dont play it.

This can be a better game if it have better player gun accuracy I cannot recommend this game due to extreme difficulty spike (even on easy difficulty) plus with a really really bad gun accuracy where you can't hit enemy even at point blank range Only buy this if you want to complete your Build Engine games collection

World War II GI is the sequel to NAM, a broken Duke Nukem 3D ripoff that I don't think anyone was asking for a sequel to. Like NAM, it's on the Build Engine, and if releasing a game on that was audacious in 1998, it was nuts in 1999. Also like NAM, it's really bad. Most of World War II GI is exactly like NAM, but in World War 2. You have to configure the controls beforehand to not be completely stupid, it reuses a lot of Duke Nukem 3D assets and mechanics, there are 2-3 kinds of enemy, the…

But this game is hard as hell even on the easiest difficulty and i faced certain glitches in dosbox where my gun wouldnt shoot at times and i couldnt move while crouched so i strongly suggest playing this game with eduke32 but it is very possible to have a fun time if you can get past all the mines on the first level. this…

It's pretty damn awful... The WW2 campaign has its enjoyable moments but the whole experience is mared by terrible hit boxes, almost half the weapons being borderline useless and enemies that only register hits when they feel like getting shot... I really could go on and on with the problems here... The expansion, "Platoon Leader" is somehow even worse, it consists of 3 crappy maps with some inventive mechanics but still plays terribly, also random deaths occur with no rhyme or reason, just…

This game isnt really bad most of the time, its just really challenging. You can get killed by a single bullet fired from a bush miles away, by a random artillery shot or air raid that just happens to land on you, or by those damn mines scattered everywhere. But when you think about it, thats realistic. Thats what what war is like. You can be the best soldier out there, but a singe unlucky move and youre finished. With V-J Day approaching and a military parade in two weeks, I was inspired for a WWII FPS and came across this old game. The YouTuber made it look enjoyable playing this game so I bought it, then I realized their skill masked the game’s shortcomings. The first level seems to depict the Normandy Landing, but the game feels very outdated. I struggled to step out of the boat or survive for more than 30 seconds. Amid the chaos, I discovered I needed to retrieve an explosive from a trench and use…

As a Build Engine fan and a history nerd, I was pleasantly surprised when I initially found out about this game. The premise is simple, yet fairly unique, and certainly held a lot of potential – using a great piece of FPS tech like Ken Silverman’s Build Engine (of Duke Nukem 3D and Blood fame) to simulate massive historical battles like those of the Second World War’s D-Day Landings. This had a lot of potential in my mind, and I enjoyed what I saw (conceptually) of how your player character is…

World War 2 GI is a game that was far behind its time back in 1999. Day of Defeat was released in the same year, and it is superior in graphics when compared to WW2 GI. But let us put that aside for a moment. This game is fustrating, unfair, confusing and incomplete. But it is still one of my favourite retro fp i have ever had the pleasure of playing. The saving every 2 minutes in case you die should not be something you have to do in a game, but i'm ok with that. The enemies are impossible to…

World War II GI is a late-1990s first-person shooter developed by TNT Team and now preserved on Steam through Ziggurat, and it serves as both a time capsule of Build-engine design and a reflection of how early PC shooters interpreted historical warfare. Released during a period when military shooters were still discovering their modern identity, it presents World War II through the lens of fast, arcade-style action rather than scripted cinematics or realism. The game loosely follows American…

Rating 2/10 Intro It's exactly the same as NAM, it's just that the setting is World War. Virtually nothing was done to make an improvement over that game. Once again, I recommend playing Duke Nukem 3D, Ion Fury or Shadow Warrior instead. Positives + Weapons have good impact. Negatives - Poor level design. - Poor aesthetics and graphics. - Random explosions can kill you. - Every enemy is an overpowered hit-scanner. Eduke32: https://www.eduke32.com/

Do not buy this, there are plenty of Duke Nukem style shooters AND World War II shooters out there which are more fun, more accessible and more graphically pleasing - even in early 1990-s standards. By "accessible" I mean a game that is actually playable by a person who is not a hardcore FPS player, who doesn't do anything in their free time apart from playing FPS. I can play Doom on Medium just fine, but in this game I'm instantly killed and the graphical glitches don't motivate me to proceed…

I love build engine games, they just have a certain something about them. This one seems to be missing that one piece. Soul. while I know it was an attempt at a more realistic shooter. If you're willing to put 5 minutes of your time into sorting out the controls (just chose Configuration when you start the game) then this game is a typical 90s shooter, and a pretty good one, though maybe that's just the nostalgia talking. Be sure to start the game through the SECOND option (DosBox Daum) as this makes it widescreen and makes all the controls work properly. To reiterate, a pretty good WW2 FPS if you can get past its age and aren't immediately turned off by DOS.

This game was published a year after NAM in 1999 and it somehow managed to be worse than NAM. While NAM's deficiencies as a video game can be brushed off as NAM being a charming Vietnam War PTSD simulator, the same cannot be said about WWII GI. The game starts with Normandy landings if I recall correctly. You die over and over without reaching your goal. This is not fun. The rest of the game is more of senseless and purposeless dying and there is no sense of satisfaction in success either.…

This game is completely ridiculous. To start with, playing it without the Raze Engine app is a non-starter.   War is hell, and they truly mean it. The enemies in this game are world-class snipers, seemingly enjoying themselves as they lie in wait for you to peek from a corner, ready to blow your head off in an instant. I love this game, knowing that it is going to give me PTSD. I am determined to beat it, though. Somehow. Great game.

Even worse than NAM but for different reasons. The weapons are really inaccurate and the morale system makes them lose accuracy as you take hits. Dealing with the tanks can be tricky so make sure to save those explosives. The last maps are the worst as you need to snipe the enemies with your inaccurate weapons and the ammo is not plentiful either. About as fun as munching on a brick.
