The big problem i have is the time limits to meet objectives, the game forces you to rapidly advance in certain directions so you don't have the time to set up any kind of strategy, every game is just brute force to points you need to capture and if you try anything fancy like a flank attack you run out of time which is bad because you need the bonuses to win the fight which is also turn limited, i just prefer a game to let me win how i want to instead of the game forcing me to win how it…

Too much pressure, not enough fun. I found this game incredibly frustrating as a beginner. From the very first turn, you are buried under high-pressure objectives and strict turn limits. There is almost no freedom to play your own way; you either find the one "correct" path the developers intended or you fail. Since the game punishes you for trying to restart and learn, it feels like it’s trying to penalize the player rather than entertain them.

Too much content locked behind DLC's. Shameless money grab. Having to pay for Russian, German, Italian, Polish, Finnish and even French content is a slap in the face for a WWII sim. All you get for the base purchase is 3 small Africa campaign's and then 1 grand campaign of the invasion of Sicily/Italy going into and thru D-Day (only played as US/UK, you're going to have to pay for anything Axis or Commintern related) to the ALMOST fall of Berlin ... but not quite. Berlin costs extra...

It falls flat pretty quickly. Its essentially a puzzle game with lots of randomness, dressed up as an operation level wargame. It sets extremely tight time/turn limits to achieve goals, and the randomness of how effective moves are and what powers you have (a system of "cards" for airstrikes and stuff) soon makes it extremely frustrating to make repeated attempts of a scenario to figure out an execution with satisfies these extreme turn limits. Im just sad i didnt try this game out sooner…

Puzzle game not a wargame. Usually there is one way to "solve" the battle and you have to find it. I see very little room for any tactics.

Unity of Command II is a deep, engaging, and brilliantly executed turn-based strategy game that builds on the strengths of its predecessor while introducing a host of new mechanics and systems that elevate the entire experience. Developed by 2x2 Games and published in 2019, the game situates players in the dynamic, high-stakes campaigns of World War II, primarily from the perspective of the Western Allies. While its surface-level aesthetic might initially come across as simple or stylized, what…

I am actually enjoying this game and it's really nice! Normally I would give this two thumbs up! However it has one major flaw: the limited amount of turns which is just is not any fun whatsoever. I am OK with say points and prestige going down if you don't take side and main objectives on time but just ending your game kills the flow. I hope to see a third game, without it. Sorry 2x2 games I do actually like this, but the turns thing kills it and you should figure out something else.

No saving in a game with: -Random chance -Nebulous rules -AI that understands the objectives and will actively screw you over to make sure you don't get them. Even if it loses them the scenario. -Long set up times -punishes you for misclicking or making the wrong choice I could go on and on. I want to like this game so much but it feels like the developers want the player to suffer as much as possible.

I think the number of hours I've played this game speaks for itself. Some people will knock it for being a "puzzle" war game. I can definitely see where that comes from, but even if its true, this is without a doubt an incredibly fun and satisfying experience that I have come back to over and over. Scenarios are almost universally well designed and challenging - and contrary to the puzzle descriptor there are generally a few ways to try and break forward even for a perfect result. If you are a…

I was looking for a WW2 wargame where logistics are as important as the battles, and found it in UoC2. The mechanics of it are simple here, but it's on par with the chess-like approach here ("easy to learn, hard to master"). It's a charming one-more-turn little game, optimised - as the devs noted themselves - for a single player campaigns. The game is extremely well polished and user-friendly. But grognards should keep to what they playing instead of this, however UoC2 is highly recommended for…

I overlooked this one cause of the graphics, thought it was combat lite phone game. Dont make the same mistake. Elegant, balanced, and playable, gives a true sense of warfare, especially the importance of logistics. Understands how to represent unit strength in terms of its function, ie no need to list the number of motorcycles and MG42s on a division level unit. Exciting fascinating gameplay is the result. If you're a veteran wargamer, this is your game. If you only have a passing…

Most of the negative reviews were probably from players who didn't give the game a decent chance. No one will deny that it is a complex game. But put some time and effort into learning the game and you will be rewarded by an enjoyable, challenging strategy game. I'm not ashamed to admit that I play campaigns on "Easy" setting, and still find the game challenging, enjoyable, and beatable, unlike so many games out there. my comment matches the abilities of the average player. I played the blitzkrieg campaign and ended up with mission 7 sickle stroke (tank breakthrough through luxembourg and ardennes towards sedan). The problem is that unit strength carries over between missions. So if you weaken your units in battle, you have practically no chance to succeed in the next mission. At the same time, this is complete nonsense, because the previous mission is an attack on Belgium, and that was attacked by a…

It's a puzzle game, not a tactical or strategic game. It 'simulates' armies moving across a map like a chess game 'simulates' its pieces sliding along a board. In that sense, it is a simulation. But in a tactical or strategic sense, it falls flat completely. I don't really see any freedom to engage in tactical or strategic gameplay. You essential move chess pieces across a WW2 themed map. I've kept an open mind on turn based games, they definitely have their merits but this game doesn't…

This is very poorly designed. You cannot save your progress, and you do not have an "undo" button (unless you are just moving a unit without clearing any fog of war). You can "continue" your game but that reproduces the board state after your last action - no matter when the save-game was created, even if it was in the mission before it! That means that you cannot correct a mistake, and you cannot experiment. This is a deal breaker in a strategy game. You can restart the whole mission but then…

A truly engrossing turn-based tactics game. There is no requirement for base micro-management: this is focused on combat, logistics, and cutting off your enemy so you can secure objectives to tight timeframes. The game is easily accessible and does not require reading an encyclopedia to get it working. Scenarios are about 30 minutes each and there are truck loads of them, across beautifully constructed campaign maps, in the base game alone. This game reminds me of RUSE, an old gem that failed…

In this age of over-hyped releases and broken promises, the Unity of Command series stands out a mile. And United of Command II was a sequel that improved in every way on its already great predecessor. The graphics and interface are simple, but effective. The AI opponent is relentless and realistic. You don't need to learn how to win the game, but rather how to win a battle. To win you must maintain supply lines and outflank your enemy. Gameplay balance seems effortless here. Further, no two…

More complicated than Panzer General, Panzer Corps, Hex of Steel or Order of Battle, Unity of Command reminds me of older strategic/operational hex-based tabletop war games where you had to spend points to activate your units, and you only had sufficient points to activate some of your units. Fun, but frustrating at times, mainly because the rule set is not one I have internalized. If you are bored with the games mentioned above, give this a try.

So I gave this game a few tries, and I was getting into it- it has a unique style, smooth play, easy UI, though some more thought could have gone into that. And a kind of a catchy flow. Though well into my first campaign I noticed a huge "supply" issue. (thus putting the pain in campaign) No matter how I placed my supply hubs, or how many trucks or supply points I have in service- there are NO fully supplies units on the field... even when their sharing the same tile with the actual supply hub.…

It's cryptic and abstract, and the learning curve is a cliff. There are a lot of mechanics that just aren't clear at all. Most of the time, I can't tell why one attack is suicidal, and another is overwhelming. I was expecting something with a tactical feel like Panzer General, with a variety of detailed unit types. It's operational, and units are all either generic infantry or generic armor. Some units have higher combat values than others, but aren't distinguished visually in any way. Some…

Not a fan. It has nice graphics and some good ideas, like draw cards, however it is overly complicated. There are a lot of positive reviews for this game so I thought I should share my thoughts to add balance. To have a good understanding of this game would require a deep dive into the manual and at least a 100 hrs plus of mucking around trying things. I didn't have the time and wasn't interested enough to invest the time. The save game system is pretty average too. Glad I bought it on sale.

The logistics and command-and-control aspects of the game are very good, and makes wild sprints across the map with one or two units counterproductive, as it should be! Definitely different than any other turn based military strategy top-down hex WW2 game that *I've* played, maybe there are other war games that have a heavy focus on keeping your forces supplied. There are times where you start a battle with low supplies, just like in real life! Your guys can't fight or move without it. The game balance is a little too hard on "classic".
