I thought Howl from Beyond the Fog (2019) was just going to be a basic kaiju flick, but instead, I got one of the most unique Japanese animated films I’ve ever seen. This is far removed from typical anime—arguably, it’s not anime at all. What we have here is incredible stop-motion animation using puppets, green screens, and…

Really helped since this was my introduction to Ultraman. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched boxd.it/3BVeB

positive · AI labelView post →6. DOGORA (1964) is the most mythos-esque kaiju film outside of the Ultraman series.

positive · AI labelView post →What do you mean the Ultraman 60th anniversary film isn't a film but a Youtube video
neutral · AI labelView post →25. I am divided on SHIN ULTRAMAN (2022), because they managed to successfully condense an entire series of Ultraman shows into a single film and that shouldn't have worked but somehow it did.
neutral · AI labelView post →93. Detective Conan: The Time-Bombed Skyscraper (movie, 1997) Look regular Conan is already unhinged, I knew that going in, but Return of Ultraman homages?! A subway bombing two years after the real-life sarin attacks happened?! The killer's motive hinging on the economic collapse?!

neutral · AI labelView post →Awesome! Well the first Sentai-related thing I watched was Mechanical Violator Hakaider (great film btw), which is probably a weird place to start 😅 Good to know this approach should work for Ultraman too
neutral · AI labelView post →While in America designing suits for Ultraman Powered, Shinji Higuchi definitely watched at least one of the MST3K Gamera episodes.
neutral · AI labelView post →If you like Star Trek (that much like Ultraman is a musingly sci-fi series starting in 1966), you will probably enjoy this film. Not only for the beautiful "Enterprise" model kept in the office, but there are lots of alien diplomacy (yay!), and reflections about humanity.

Likewise with [Toho Godzilla](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godzilla_(franchise/)) which is more superhero than Kaiju at a certain point. If you haven't seen them I maintain that the [DC Animated Universe](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Animated_Movie_Universe) is superior to the MCU and DC. Finally there's [Invincible](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invincible_(TV_series/)) and…

neutral · AI labelView post →"Shin Ultraman isn't a good Ultraman movie" WHAT DO YOU THINK ULTRAMAN IS ABOUT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
positive · AI labelView post →Watched Shin Ultraman (2022), and I mostly enjoyed it. I struggle with Ultraman as a series, because I love the SFX but it's so clearly aimed at young children. The movie was closer to Anno's Shin Godzilla (2016), in that it had a lot of dry, political humor aimed at adults.

neutral · AI labelView post →Can someone explain how this movie is “not perfect?” Not that it is but I sometimes see that getting said without much explanation.. I love the new movie. If I have to give a problem I'd say Ultraman being a clone while it makes a lot of sense for the characters and I even predicted it, it felt a bit just tossed in there. I heard James planned to put sadder stuff about him in the movie but they didn't have time
positive · AI labelView post →Shin Ultraman (2022)- I'm watching this in preparation of Gquuuuux. A shockingly empty film that is barely carried by the fact it's someone else's better idea. there's so much inexplicable Japanese Nationalism here? generally a waste of time, lmao
negative · AI labelView post →I was going through some of Anno's older works and found this gem. He also made an [Ultraman fan film](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVul62qjmLM) with him as Ultraman.

neutral · AI labelView post →Yeah. I've been watching them with my son since Z and having a great time. Like Kamen Rider it doesn't matter where you start. They do references and crossovers but they're all designed as jumping in points. Ultraman Rising is an absolute banger of an animated film too!
positive · AI labelView post →Pick a character, and sit back to see what the adventure is. It's just watching whatever was on the TV at 2 am. It might be Ultraman dubbed in Spanish. It might be some weird short film with murderous puppets. You just don't know, but its going to be awesome.
neutral · AI labelView post →ILM did this film, Rango, and Ultraman Rising. They all look fantastic and I wish they'd do animated features more often
neutral · AI labelView post →Shin Ultraman is the funniest reborn-Toho film by far, but its themes are 1. the mind-breakingly vast powers of stellar beings completely beyond our experience 2. women becoming Jumbo which are both *spiritually* oktoberfest themes even if its not Comedy Month, and its definitely comedy-forward
neutral · AI labelView post →No movie, allegedly because they saw no point in doing another Ultraman movie that’s just an extended episode of the show Which is honestly kinda wild when a story about Sorato and Kosei actually working together as Ultraman and then having to separate feels tailor made for an epilogue movie
neutral · AI labelView post →Shiro Sano as our head villain in LADY BATTLE COP. A pretty heavy resume including serving as the narrator for Ultraman Max and appearances in three Godzilla movies. He was also in a recent kaiju movie called BRUSH OF THE GOD. I'm still waiting on that one in the mail. #SpaceApeCinema
neutral · AI labelView post →There is still that touch of humanity still helping Ultraman in the end, tho funny enough Anno also didn't like how the movie came out Higuchi does so much heavy lifting for a script that's definitely Anno's that given Shin Kamen Rider, it's very much that SU wasn't done "his way"

neutral · AI labelView post →No, movie Ultraman is more like Bizzaro. In the comics he's the evil version of Superman from Earth 3, and the Lex Luthor in that universe is good. I used to be big into Marvel and DC comics.
