Here shown approaching it in the San Juan Mtns. of Colorado. #BlueskyMonday #MountainMonday #Colorado #landscapephotography
positive · AI labelView post →The Coen brothers' "True Grit" is significantly better than the original movie.
neutral · AI labelView post →Chimney Rock, near Owl Creek Pass, CO. From deep in the archives - taken in 2003 with a Canon 10D. Film buffs may recognize this location as the setting for a John Wayne shootout in True Grit (1969 version). #rockformation #mountain #colorado #monochrome #scenic #cows
neutral · AI labelView post →Now rewatching, the Coen brothers' biggest hit, by a wide margin, True Grit (2010). This was a big moneymaker, and it's no wonder, because it's phenomenal, another masterpiece, and it's a remake of a John Wayne film, oh and it was rated PG-13. More people got to see it. Bridges is perfect. 5/5

Every movie we review can be watched free with your library card (or, at least it could at the time we recorded the episode). First up, TRUE GRIT (2010). An amazing adaptation of one of my favorite books! maximumfun.org/episodes/fre...
neutral · AI labelView post →The first Coen Brothers fan art I ever did was of True Grit when I was in college, because I had gotten questionably obsessed with that movie for a spell. Look at this fuckin...14/15 year old piece of art. Part of my obsession with horrible old men that I used to get made fun of for ha #art
positive · AI labelView post →my wife doesn’t really know much about movies. i showed her this picture and said “you know, Glen Campbell had a supporting role in the original True Grit movie. who do you think they got to play his part in the 2010 remake?” and she immediately said “Matt Damon”
neutral · AI labelView post →I can't watch most Coen Brothers movies. They make my skin crawl. Their directorial choices infuriate me. I liked True Grit. Hated everything else. Also • Skyfall • Titane • every Mission Impossible film after 1 and 2. • Captain America: Civil War • The Hangover movies • Any Sacha Baron Cohen film
positive · AI labelView post →The second ‘True Grit’ film.
neutral · AI labelView post →#BOTD 1947 Happy Birthday to... Kim Darby: American actress and teacher. Her breakout role was as Mattie Ross in the 1969 Western film True Grit, earning her a BAFTA Award nomination for Most Promising Newcomer to Leading Film Roles.
neutral · AI labelView post →My ★★★★★ review of True Grit (2010) on @letterboxd.social: boxd.it/fkKbYt
positive · AI labelView post →Finally saw Supergirl. I liked it more than the most recent Superman movie, but I expected more than a True Grit remake with a little John Wick thrown in. Milly Alcock is great as Supergirl, her character moments are interesting, but as is often the case muddy CG super fights are underwhelming.

neutral · AI labelView post →There's a new AI newsletter called Grit, taking its name from John Wayne's movie. True Grit. Targeting me cuz I'm an old white guy. So I must be a homophobic, misogynistic, racist, idiot. Well guess what, I'm not. I didn't like this draft dodger either. Yes folks, John Wayne was a draft dodger.
neutral · AI labelView post →And more impressively, pretty much carried the original film of ‘True Grit’
neutral · AI labelView post →Today I learned that Elmer Bernstein (one of the great film composers: the Magnificent Seven, True Grit, the Blues Brothers, etc.) when he was just starting out composed the score to Robot Monster (regarded as one of the worst films ever made). That’s strangely inspiring.

neutral · AI labelView post →yeah it's pretty much this honestly. The plot is fairly basic, it doesn't open anything up for anything else like people are used to with superhero movies. But yes it's True Grit with a sprinkling of John Wick.
positive · AI labelView post →During a summer Twitter break (and a bit of a reading slump), audiobooks helped—this Connie Willis road trip of a novel went down as smoothly as a Preston Sturges film. Also read my first Charles Portis! Donna Tartt narrates True Grit—nothing gets much better than that.
positive · AI labelView post →Their version of True Grit almost immediately became another "sure I'll watch that movie for the gazillionth time, why not" movie for me. I love their writing, I love the composers and soundtracks they pick
positive · AI labelView post →That time Domhnall appeared in a movie alongside Matt Damon 🤠 Young Domhnall Gleeson at ‘True Grit’ New York premiere, 2010 🧡
neutral · AI labelView post →Now that Sinners is out, my daughter once again is being mistaken for Hailee Steinfeld all around town. Been happening since True Grit but Sinners… heard it’s a lot. Hey Hailee, if you ever need a little sis in a film, here’s your girl. Acting BFA as of this Friday! 🙌
neutral · AI labelView post →I haven’t seen anybody talk about how Ellison also funded his daughter’s early film finance career which allowed her to found Annapurna Pictures after saving Skydance by giving them True Grit having worked in the industry she was the one who people actually talked about as being talented
neutral · AI labelView post →1969 was a real banner year for movie songs, even after learning that "Everybody's Talkin'" wasn't written for "Midnight Cowboy." "True Grit," "Come Saturday Morning," "Goodbye, Columbus," "Jean," "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head"... All pure gold.
neutral · AI labelView post →just watched TRUE GRIT (2010). My wife had never seen it. God, what a movie. Never not some tears at the end.
positive · AI labelView post →1) I love a good heist film. I don't know that I have a fave, but I'm going to go the 🤓 route and say Rogue One. 2) True Grit (1968/2010)... also going to go with the 🤓response and say Battlestar Galactica reboot. #HATM
neutral · AI labelView post →I’ve slept on it and the more I think about it the more I like it. The deviations from Woman of Tomorrow largely make sense for film and keep mostly with the same message. Ending withstanding. WoT’s ending is the best part but only fits the True Grit framing device that the movie eschews.
neutral · AI labelView post →Just because it’s kind of like True Grit, it still needs to be well written and scenes need to flow well and create tension. Supergirl (movie) is an adaptation of a great graphic novel. They changed several things that were integral to the plot for no apparent reason. It’s not trash but I wouldn’t recommend it.
neutral · AI labelView post →I liked both film versions of True Grit so Portis is a must read (I’m too much of a wimp for the likes of Blood Meridian though)
positive · AI labelView post →The film is basically True Grit in space but it ends up being much weaker than that
negative · AI labelView post →And it’s finally getting a 4K release! Hilariously, the current streaming version completely removes the actually necessary for the plot sex scene, which makes parts of the film make no sense. (Also I’d make a case for No Country for Old Men and True Grit!)
neutral · AI labelView post →Day 2 Film based on a book #FavoriteMovie #MovieChallenge True Grit (1969, 2010) - both films are fun to watch in their own way. But the book by Charles Portis is well worth the read.
positive · AI labelView post →I think people are inherently biased against a woman led film. It's based on the graphic novel "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, and while it wanders from the source a bit (you cant fit 8 issues into a 2 hour movie), it's basically True Grit meets John Wick in space. I enjoyed the hell out of it! So why was the formula a success for True Grit or John Wick but not Supergirl? 🤔
neutral · AI labelView post →Movie watched today... True Grit (2010) Dir. Joel Coen & Ethan Coen *** (of four) #filmsky
positive · AI labelView post →This is my 4th Coen Brothers film (O Brother Where Art Thou?, True Grit, Big Lebowski) of the year!!
neutral · AI labelView post →Not my favourite. But liked him in True Grit. Also in this other movie set in Europe where he’s a dour American trying to help his daughter out of trouble. Forget the name.
neutral · AI labelView post →I think John & Kurt together will be more fun. If you go, please use the the audience questions section to pitch my 3rd Escape movie idea... Basically a True Grit riff with Snake as Rooster Cogburn.
neutral · AI labelView post →Once Hal Wallis was effectively shown the door at Paramount and moved to Universal, he pretty much just kept making revamps of his hits SHOOT OUT = TRUE GRIT ANNE OF THE THOUSAND DAYS = BECKET THE PUBLIC EYE = BAREFOOT IN THE PARK THE DON IS DEAD = almost every mob film he did at WB you get the idea
neutral · AI labelView post →But what a film True Grit (the good one) is 🤩
positive · AI labelView post →As promised last night, it's time for my movie night mega thread to catch folk up on what I've been peeping: Rango, True Grit (2010), McCabe & Mrs. Miller, The Witch, The Company of Wolves and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance

neutral · AI labelView post →2 I hadn’t watched in 10+ years: Coens “True Grit,” and “The Last Picture Show,” which I already loved but is an incredible film to rewatch when you are 31 and not 20 Suzan Pitt’s Asparagus seen in a theater - a favorite that I loved even more on a big screen
positive · AI labelView post →One great western a day in September. Provide an image. Explain if you want. Movie: True Grit (2010) Director: Joel and Ethan Coen #WesternMovieChallenge #Filmsky #WesternSky #MovieSky #MovieChallenge Day 15 True Grit (2010)
neutral · AI labelView post →Haven't seen the movie. The comic is great, a rich, colorful & voice-y True Grit riff that's also asking the "what makes a hero" type questions raised in Superman (2025). But it goes very hard.
neutral · AI labelView post →without saying your age, what is your favorite movie that came out when you were 20 years old? 2010 was kinda dire. I love True Grit but it is a hydrogen bomb against coughing babies
positive · AI labelView post →TRUE GRIT - (2010) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Last night's #Movie Directed by Joel and Ethan Coen, an adaptation of Charles Portis's 1968 novel. Starring Starring Jeff Bridges and Hailee Steinfeld, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin & Barry Pepper. Difficult to get past the John Wayne '68 classic 'True Grit' but this is excellent.
positive · AI labelView post →Not shocked about the Hudsucker, but am surprised No Country didn’t make more, it was so hyped. But True Grit was such enjoyable film, more crowd pleasing. I guess the girl in it was way hyped at the time
positive · AI labelView post →Last night I finally got to see Supergirl an enjoyable film. I liked it. My only problems were the same problems I had with Supergirl woman of tomorrow It is a Western (True Grit) that someone lifted completely put a sci-fi skin on it and shoved Supergirl in it. #comicsky #moviesky
positive · AI labelView post →I find it kinda cool that some of ROOSTER COGBURN is made up from material that was in the TRUE GRIT novel, but didn't make it into the 1969 movie. #TCMParty
neutral · AI labelView post →the man's most lauded comic, supergirl: woman of tomorrow, was a garbage True Grit rip off carried entirely by Bilquis Evely's art and the film adaptation somehow made it worse by pulling basically nothing from her art he's a hack and a monster
neutral · AI labelView post →The film that really got me obsessed with Wayne was El Dorado, which I saw as a 10 year old (or around there) and LOVED. So I've always had a soft spot for those late 60s films like Sons of Katie Elder, War Wagon, True Grit, etc. But his work in the 40s and 50s is genuinely striking and interesting.
neutral · AI labelView post →I'm sure that sounds weird but @huhhowdoibluethis.bsky.social can attest that that's a high bar, and I also learned that I need to badger the spouse into watching True Grit. I love when a movie set in space has a Funky Little Guy and Seth Rogen's cameo 100% delivers! Also, space pirates! 2/8
neutral · AI labelView post →Someone on Discord asked the group "what's your favourite recent movie remake" and I found it hard to think of an actual REMAKE—not a retelling, reboot, or new adaptation of the same source eg. True Grit, The Quiet American, and MCU/DCU—less than 15-20 yrs old. My answer is Road House. It slaps.
neutral · AI labelView post →Haylee Steinfeld for True Grit. She got the role at 13 and out-acted Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon. She owned that movie.
positive · AI labelView post →#Supergirl was a lot of fun, Milly Alcock and Momoa were highlights. In particular, Momoa was playing the Jason Momoaest character ever to Jason Momoa and it rocks Was it basically True Grit? Yeah, but True Grit ruled so that plus lasers and Kryptonian smashing shit is a fun formula #film
positive · AI labelView post →If the movie adaptation of this with Anne Hathaway successfully gets made, they really need to find a child actress with the same energy as Hailee Steinfeld in True Grit for Mary.
