unlabelledView post →The dumbest thing about the dumbest man on Earth arguing with historians about the casting of a talented, well-respected actress that is black in the role of Helen of Troy, in a feature film about a mythological story, is that he made no such arguments in the casting of white Jesus elsewhere.
unlabelledView post →White supremacists who are upset that a black woman was cast as Helen of Troy in the new movie The Odyssey “because it’s not historically accurate” have drawings of a blond, blue-eyed Jesus in their homes.
unlabelledView post →For fun, we watched "Troy," the 2004 movie with Brad Pitt as Achilles. Helen is blonde, the characters speak using fake-formal language and the whole thing is dreadful, both boring and silly.
unlabelledView post →Donald Trump started a new forever war, raised gas prices and gave you all explosive diarrhea but MAGA’s whole focus is being mad that a beautiful Black woman got cast as Helen of Troy in a movie.
unlabelledView post →the only casting for Helen of Troy that would've made this movie tolerable is Tim Robinson
unlabelledView post →Look… I’ve been thinking about it a lot…. And we should collectively forget Troy and let Christopher Nolan remake the modern Iliad / Posthomerica film

unlabelledView post →Musk and his followers are upset that a black woman was cast as Helen of Troy in the new movie The Odyssey. MAGAs, take a moment to Google "White actors who played people of color in movies." Then sit down and STFU.

unlabelledView post →There is something very funny about the sudden effort by the Twitter chuds to recast Troy (2004) - a film which lost out at the box office to Ben-Stiller-vehicle, Meet the Fockers (2004) - as a cinematic masterpiece the likes of which Christopher Nolan could never match.

unlabelledView post →The people who have spent centuries depicting Jesus Christ, a real brown Palestinian Jew, as a blond haired blue eyed white guy, are upset that a film depicts Helen of Troy—a fictional person—as a Black woman They are upset that another film depicts Snape—also a fictional being—as a Black man 1/2
unlabelledView post →When the film finally does show the sack of Troy, it arrives as a vision of hell, with repeated shots of civilians being dragged away screaming, ending pointedly on the killing of a Trojan priestess. Is this the extended, raw lamentations of Euripedes' Trojan Women? No, but it's not nothing, either
unlabelledView post →If you think there was outrage for Christopher Nolan casting a Black woman as Helen of Troy and a Trans man as Sinon Just wait till they figure out what the movie was actually about Oooooh boy
unlabelledView post →“Oooooooh, we don’t like a Black woman playing Helen of Troy in a Greek Myth movie. But we are fine with a white man playing Jesus.” Remember, these are people who also got upset by a mermaid and Barbie. These are not serious people!

unlabelledView post →given his comments about the founders of Rome as well, I think all of this is simply just a disguised admission he hasn't read any Homer and just watched the Brad Pitt movie version of Troy (which has a blond German as Helen, Diane Kruger)
unlabelledView post →But how are you gonna make a sword and sandal movie with no upskirts. Troy 2004 did not oil up their thighs to look good in their miniskirts for Telemachus to wear a Henley in 2026
unlabelledView post →I suppose I can appreciate the efforts of people who will post lengthy essays on the subjects of why/how Helen of Troy or Maria Von Trapp could possibly, historically and authentically, be black; I'm happier to stop at "It's a movie"/"It's a musical." 🤷🏻♂️

unlabelledView post →Currently watching the movie Troy (2004). It’s absolute ass, don’t get me wrong. But the amount of care we used to put into even our blockbuster slop films back then compared to most of what we see now is absolutely crazy
unlabelledView post →The film positions the sack of Troy as a fundamental wound in the world echoing down through time and across space -- echoing out in every unfortunate encounter Odysseus and his men encounter, and in the seeping rot at home in his absence. It takes something implicitly in the text and pulls it out

unlabelledView post →My classicist daughter just told me that a film adaptation of The Iliad that translated the title literally would be called Troy Story. 🤯
unlabelledView post →Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is so accurate to the movies. Troy Baker sounds just like Harrison Ford, the music sounds just like John Williams, and it feels like it belongs with every movie. It's really good.
unlabelledView post →I don't have it in me to be kind. Athena in the Odyssey poem treats Odysseus as a friend and even as an intellectual equal, a dynamic which is reciprocated freely. The movie reduces her to the ptsd memory of the face of a victim from Troy who barely speaks. I didn't like the movie. That's allowed.
unlabelledView post →I love that Troy Baker now has Harrison Fords seal of approval! The game is incredible, acts like a 4th film and Troy did such an amazing job!
unlabelledView post →Oh did he just watch the movie Troy 🙄
unlabelledView post →Watching the 2004 Troy because she wanted to see it after the Odyssey, and it may not be a perfect movie, but it is perfectly cast. Especially Orlando Bloom, like yeah that’s what Paris would look like.
unlabelledView post →Yeah this critique from Wilson seems particularly unfair and divorced from the film itself. First we see breaking into Troy as victorious conquest. Later, we see the actual sacking of Troy as gluttonous violence.
unlabelledView post →Racist streamer Lilly Gaddis is angry about reports that Lupita Nyong'o is playing Helen of Troy in Christopher Nolan's upcoming film adaptation of "The Odyssey": "If I can't pronounce your name, what are you doing here?"

unlabelledView post →A college friend of mine told me that shortly after Troy came out, he jokingly said, without having even seen the movie yet, "Spoiler: Achilles dies," and a classmate got genuinely mad at him.
unlabelledView post →*Clears throat* An archaeological thread about the "truth" of the HORSE Odysseus used at Troy (no movie spoilers promise) here goes: The Odyssey is much debated, and the existence of the attacks on Troy as well. Excavations at Troy have revealed evidence for earthquakes at Troy's levels 6/7 1/

unlabelledView post →I know if Cleopatra's inbred Greek ass living in Africa can be blonde & blue-eyed in every movie made of her, white supremacists do not have to shit their pants if Helen of Troy is not portrayed as blonde & blue-eyed.
unlabelledView post →It does give you an idea of how out of date all these CHUDs are about showbiz. They compare this movie unfavourably to TROY, which was not a hit movie and which they probably know from being on cable a lot
unlabelledView post →Hey #horror fans, let’s give Troy some support for his upcoming film. #indiehorror needs your support!
unlabelledView post →The main thing I'm learning from the Odyssey discourse is apparently the 2004 movie Troy has shooters? And they like Brad Pitt as Achilles? I do not remember anyone liking that movie at the time.

unlabelledView post →"what if you could get home and have your AI generate a movie where youre a cool action hero and fuck [insert famous young woman]" idk man id probably watch Troy (2004) again because that movie is overhated and they really capture the priam-achilles scene thats at the core of the illiad
