Tower of Time's gameplay is a good concept that feels unpolished and a little undercooked. I can see what they were pulling from, the combat in this game makes me think of WarCraft 3, specifically the missions where you only have a handful of hero units to work with, each with their own abilities and characteristic that make them unique. On the face this seems great, the problems come in with how they try to implement it. The game is 90% combat but you fight in the same arenas over and…

Tower of Time is a real-time-with-pause isometric RPG from Event Horizon, mixing classic dungeon crawling with some modern twists. While it looks like a straightforward fantasy romp at first glance, it hides a surprisingly deep tactical layer beneath its story and setting. You descend into a mysterious upside-down tower buried deep in the earth. The narrative unfolds piece by piece as you go deeper, told through text segments, environmental clues, and companion banter. The world has a…

Later part of the Story locks a few of your Heroes for some time. If you only invested into these and ignored all others you are stuck. No fun at all. Story was really good till then despite the combat becoming a little bit repetetive

Was going good for a bit - a different take on CRPG combat and a solid "what is this tower and why is it here" story line that hooked you in. I appreciated that it was fairly linear and that not every new character that joined the party required 10 fetch quests. It would be cool to get some closure to the story - but the final level I guess decides to eliminate half your party so you're forced to upskill and equip the other party members to make progress - and I'm sure I can find something…

This game is a hidden gem in the RPG genre – it definitely deserves more attention. You can see that it was developed passionately by people who love their work. The mysterious and captivating story takes you to a tower buried upside down in the ground to unveil its hidden secrets. The combat system is quite original, as the battlefield occurs in a more detailed location than the standard map. The real-time/pause mechanics enable players to carefully plan their actions against approaching…

No. I have been playing with the hope the game gets better later on: As the characters level up, the items get more powerful, new spells, abilities and companions show up, thinking that surely I am only at the start and the game will get better as I progress... No, it doesn't. Every step of progression is dull, boring and underwhelming. Your characters don't level up with exp, they don't get any exp from fights. You search for building upgrades that raise your max level cap and gather gold…

This game is a real time with pause, isometric dungeon crawler game with interesting but short (game time doesn't reflect it) story. For some reason people tagged it as turn based but it isn't, you can just pause the game but everyone acts simultaneously. The game consists of about 10 floors, where you fight different type of enemies on each floor. You might think that it adds to the freshness of the game, and in a way it does, but it isn't enough because each floor forces 10-20 separate wave…

Just finished the game and I have to admit I feel perplexed. It started off as something that could have been one of my favourite games and ended up dropping the ball completely. Alright, lets start with the good and we will go from there. An interesting premise and setting. Nice characters. Neat and interesting locations, rather unorthodox level design. A cool upgrade system giving you a lot of flexibility in that you can always reset your skills. Plenty of loot, both to gather and an…

This is one of those moments where I truly wish there was a "mixed" recommendation on steam. Anyway the game itself is fine. The first few hours are actually very entertaining, but after a while it's just the same stuff over and over again. It gets very repetitive, especially when the game is 90% combat. After a while it feels like a chore to play. I understand what they were going for, the game takes place in a tower so of course all the environments will look/feel the same, but I dont think…

It was a pretty quick play on easy story mode, but I could see how one could sink many hours into this fairly expansive linear RPG. (Picked it up and beat it in about 16 hours). I considered trying it on a harder difficulty, but the will just wasn't there. Pros: * The tactical combat is pretty fun. Picking a party that complements each other from the available options was a fun puzzle. The mostly autopilot combats once I had a good team were enjoyable for me. * Itemizing characters was pretty…

I think I glanced at this game once or twice, as it is a kind of game I like, but nothing about it "grabbed" me. Years later some article pops up in the news feed "Amazingly good RPG for $2 on sale." so I finally tried it out. I'm staggered how good this game is. An interesting story and world to discover, characters who are a bit archetypical but still interesting, and mechanics... man, the mechanics! So many game devs could do themselves well studying how this game works, being challenging…

It's really meh. The first 6-8 hours are pretty reasonable, but then combat becomes incredibly tedious and repetitive, and the story isn't good enough to warrant the length of the game (estimated 35+ hours, I certainly won't see the end of it). It's fine if you're willing to devote a handful of hours on something that you've gotten on sale, but at any price point above like $5, it's not really worth it, and I'm a longtime fan of isometric RPGs Edit: I finished it so you don't have to. Oh boy, where do I even begin? Everything from the interface to the combat and the overall gameplay loop is, at best, passable for a mobile or tablet auto-battler. There’s no way this can honestly be called a cRPG. Visually, the game leans heavily into an “asset flip” aesthetic, which is forgivable for an indie studio. That said, it actually succeeds at conveying the atmosphere of a mysterious, ancient ruined dungeon. The developers market this as a dungeon-crawler RPG with tactical combat, but…

I found this game to be very repetitive and boring. There is a lot of reading involved and the story loses its interesting mystery soon enough. The battle system is extremely boring and repetitive, you essentially do the same thing over and over and fight the same horder with different skins over and over. I think the devs knew this so they put a fast forward option there to try and mitigate the boring battles. The rest of the game is simply walking around, finding gold and items, uncoveirng…

Legitimately one of the best stories I've ever seen in a game. It's absolutely a must play if you are into cRPGs. Forget any criticisms from others about gameplay style or whatnot. This game is about the story and my word it is fantastic. Whether you choose slow motion or pause mode, it's great. I had no issues with gameplay, no bugs, etc... But get it for the story. It's incredible.

Really underrated CRPG with a surprisingly addictive real-time-with-pause combat system. The class customization gets wild later on, and positioning actually matters instead of just stat-checking enemies. Story starts a bit slow, but the worldbuilding and dungeon atmosphere kept me hooked. If you miss old-school party RPGs but want smoother combat flow, this one's worth a shot.

It's an OK game, I got it for 1 (one) dollar, it is entertaining. It's kinda of an ARPG but you choose your team, four, and they got different abilities and positions, think DOTA-like. You got your tanks, supports, zoo, dps. You control four heroes and every hero has four abilities that you can cast. The thing is you are supposed to do tactics kinda gameplay with real time gameplay, but it doesn't work, it's just better to A-click and focus on priority targets. Some things I don't like about…

First impression after playing 30 minutes: This has both a very nice art style and story animations. As the story is told there are still-images that transition using flame-like animation "masks" that expose the next frame in waves. I also like the use of light and dark to expose the landscape such that I can't just click way ahead to get to a destination - I have to look at the closer surroundings, which to a small degree adds immersion on a top-down RPG (and normally these aren't my thing -…

This is not a bad game. It's not great, but not terrible either. The gameplay feels like a single player MOBA where you control 4 heroes with 4 abilities each. You can slow down time and issue orders. The mechanics are simple and they work. The story is very fantasy/sci-fi. It's cute but feels like reading self-published fan-fiction. I played it because I was a bit bored and was trying out older games from my lengthy backlog. Probably won't finish it.

I played almost 40 hours and the game is really fun... until it's not. The gameplay is REALLY good but, about... 20 hours in? You're SO op that enemies fall like flies. But when you change to a higher difficulty, suddenly you're the one being one shoted. So I kept playing in normal. The combat also becomes easier with time: you get 3 ranged characters which, by far, are the most powerful because they're long-ranged. It takes way too long to attack with the physical characters, so ranged…

I find the battles repetitive and boring and just makes me stop playing. You just basically do the same thing each time and the enemies come in 'waves' but you can see their % at the top of the screen, so you know when to use your last mana etc. There is very little jeopardy. Each level of the tower is different, enough to add the element of exploration. I can't really say anything exceptional about this game, so my "recommend" is nowhere on the same level as some other games, but even with some issues I had with the game, they were not enough to go with "not recommend". Tower of Time really hooked me early on with its quite unique take on the combat -- real time battles that focus on positioning, line of sight and aggro management. It's a style of combat I'd love to see more games build on. It kept me hooked for about the first half of the game, but honestly the back half was a slog. I started out aiming or 100% on every floor, but by about floor four or five the traipsing about and the samey battles lost me, and I started just mainlining toward the end…

Tower of Time feels like a refreshed take on the classic Dungeon Siege formula. If you loved that game, you'll probably enjoy this. Plenty of party skill and equipment management to set your characters up for success on battle maps where you control abilities and positioning and your party handle the rest. Truly enjoyable for about the first 75% of the game, then it drags on a bit too long. Inventory becomes cumbersome and hard to manage. I never even crafted one item as the game gives you a bounty of equipment to sort through. I picked a team of four (one tank and three dps) and never diverted unless the game forced me to do so. 7/10. Please be patient with this game and some might not like the combat mechanics. If you're looking for something different this worth the try! Combat is somewhere between turn-based and RTS. Almost like Songs of Silence but without the cards. The lore is pretty cool and definitely worth reading. Devs have put in effort with itemization and skill customization. Some areas can be pretty draggy but there are combats and storyline where this game really shines. GO PLAY!!!

An absolute steal at 93% off. I got a foil drop too, so actually ended up getting paid a few pence for buying this.

Beyond combat, the game delivers a compelling narrative…

Convoluted tactical battles So, you are free to run around but positioning matters and there are skills to use and a pause menu. Have you played Total War games? Now imagine you only have a few units and the worst UI possible in a Total War battle. That's basically it.

Tower of Time Review: A Hidden Gem That Will Break Your Heart TL;DR Tower of Time is a masterclass in storytelling and tactical RPG design. With a narrative so emotionally resonant it can bring a grown adult to tears, a lingering sense of mystery that keeps you hooked until the final credits, and a deeply satisfying progression loop, it is an absolute must-play for fans of tactical combat and rich, mature storytelling. Introduction: How Did I Miss This Masterpiece? As a hardcore…
