negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unable to play multiplayer through steam services because they ban you if you get the game for free. Even though they are the ones who made the game free to keep??? Until this is fixed, I don't see a reason to bother with this game personally.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome fantasy strategy game with RPG elements. Your troops earn XP, level up, gain perks, and can be equipped with various items. The gameplay is deep and highly tactical, offering tons of strategic choices every battle. Terrain, unit placement, and morale actually matter, and it rewards careful planning rather than mindless rushing. There’s a lot of single player content here to delve into. It has a great sense of progression, and that nostalgic old-school feel with modern polish adds to its…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first glance (e.g. opening missions) the game looks like a potential snooze-fest, "Civilisation combat without the cities" thought I. Give it time, everything changes. You will find yourself in huge moving battles with upwards of 40 very different units sprawled across a dangerous map, sending stealthy scouts out to shady territories to scout, and check for alternate routes or places of power to give your armies an advantage. Summarily, the strategy is strong in this one. You will have lots…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This games has some veeeeery bad x-com 2 vibes. On one had the game wants you to move fast so that you can get more resources from the mission. But at the same time carless movement gets you killed, plus you need to rest you people, plus you need to search for caves and stuff for armor etc. I played few missions and I always ended with zero extra resources from the mission because it is just not worth rushing. So why have the resource time in the first place?!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →**⚔️ Fantasy General II – Classic Turn-Based Strategy Done with Modern Polish** *Fantasy General II* feels like a love letter to old-school turn-based strategy games, but with enough modern refinement to make it accessible and engaging for today’s players. It takes a familiar formula—hex-based tactical battles, unit management, and campaign progression—and polishes it into something that feels both nostalgic and fresh. At its core, the game is all about battlefield decisions. Every unit…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a mess of a game with either illogical rules or outright buggy (for example enemy healing to full while encircled and under attack). I played the original Fantasy General so I wanted to check it, but I do not consider it worth my time even as free. I would play the original over again rather than this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Initially seemed nice but became rather repetitive - you will be always fighting the hordes of the same enemies. Always them ambushing you, you regrouping, attacking them and then chasing that one single enemy all around the map.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The tactical battles are enjoyable at first, and building up your army is satisfying. After a while though, the missions started to feel a bit too similar and I found myself losing interest. It's not a bad game, but I expected more from it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I grew to love this game and it was the only thing I played for weeks. It's a very worthy successor of the original. One of the best things about it is that it doesn't hold your hand, just like the games of old. It forces you to learn the strategies by thinking carefully and investigating the different unit types rather than getting endless tips. This is what all strategy games should be about. Because I got the game for free, I bought all the DLCs to say thanks for making such an awesome…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played many, many hours of the first Fantasy General, tinkering with the units upgrades and getting attached to my armies. I was so mesmerized by the beautiful choirs that I did something completely out of character, I wrote a letter to SSI gushing on the game and asking where I could buy the soundtrack. Remember that it was the late 90s, the internet was just starting and we didn't have downloads then. They were kind enough to write me a letter back, stating that unfortunately there wasn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the good games that were given away on Steam. A simple strategic plot, classic graphics. User friendly and simple. the story is great and the choices matter over all 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantasy General II is a thoughtful and demanding return to classic turn-based strategy, one that deliberately builds on old-school wargame principles while reshaping them for a modern fantasy setting. Developed by Owned by Gravity and published by Slitherine Ltd., the game serves as a spiritual successor to the original Fantasy General, preserving its emphasis on careful planning, unit preservation, and long-term campaign decisions. Rather than chasing spectacle or cinematic presentation, it…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome hex wargame plus!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A highly enjoyable turn-based strategy set in an unusual world, offering tactical depth that goes beyond the typical “rock, paper, scissors” approach. On top of that, it includes RPG elements and meaningful dialogue choices, adding extra layers to the experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This does not seem like fantasy general to me and I did play the original. Fantasy general typically has multiple factions, creatures, etc etc etc. This is a very stripped down version calling itself fantasy general 2. I would not recommend this game even for free.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old school, turn-based hex and counter tactical battle game with pretty good modern graphics. It can feel a little slow at times, and despite the modern graphics, a little hard on the eyes once in a while. But the magic is still there. At first, in the early campaign, it can feel frustrating, like there isn't enough resources. You need to keep your units alive and take the right skills that can lead to gold. By the end of the campaign my army was crazy big and powerful, all elite fully maxed…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not the Fantasy General of old I remember back in the days. Sank a lot of time then. Norse/Celt crap does not replace good old DnD vibs - Beware, this is not FG but another game that usurps the name. Moreover, the tactical game is seriously lacking QoL as in Panzer Corps 2 - no F5 and no undo. - Slitherine is very disappointing here

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's alriight, very close to good but just alright. Tactics gameplay is basically Civ5/Civ6 unit combat. You got OK unit variety, but ranged/skirmish units are clearly superior to all else. Once you have double digits of units, the game slows to a crawl and you need to click way too many things, and it gets frustrating fast. For one, there is no "Undo" at all, so any missclick or rushed action cannot be reverted. This plays nicely with the convoluted UI, which feels to be fighting against…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would recommend this, especially if it's on sale. But I would probably not buy/recommend the DLCs. They are not terrible but the issue is in the base game / original campaign you already get to see (and even recruit, although not in big numbers) most if not all of the units. So when you play the second campaign or the other modes/dlcs you have kinda seen it, which I thought was a bit disappointing. But aside from that I think for the discounts they give this is a very good game that will…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's alright. It didn't really wow me. There's plenty of games out there that are just this game but better, like Wesnoth, which is free. The game puts a lot of pressure on the player from multiple angles, which I didn't really enjoy. Explore the map to find all the hidden loot, but also do it quickly because the rewards for map completion go down every turn, but also don't lose a unit because all your units are retained between maps. Uh oh! An ambush! I know it's just my personal preference…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are nice things on this game, but i dropped off due to some annoying aspect. I would say there are like, 10 or more thing that are truly irritating. For example: only the unit who last hit get xp timer penalty on all stages repetitive enemies I don't think it's a very bad game, but i sincerely think that there are better games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1st skirmish, I was slaughtered. I had looked at the rules like 6 months ago and thought, I'm good. I was not. Learn to buy units, what units counter other units, looks at enemy units, and keep your forces tight to avoid unsupported units. Learn to Conjure and conjure support from the start. Ancestors are great, but not much for defending and handling flying units. It reminds me of the old panzer general model, but with fantasy and way better AI. I was Russians charging into the 1st…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a good game and I enjoyed my time playing it. Not perfect as it's maybe a bit bland and lacks real originality, but it's still fair on the strategy, campain management and volume of content proposed. It's really worth giving them their money and support this kind of AA game for their work. Random thoughts: ++ Fixed damage, zero output randomness (finally a game without frustrating RNG!!!) + Fortification defenses + Charge/shoot = initiative + Covering fire + Spots on the battlefield…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is awesome. Took a while to start to figure out the game mechanics, many lost soldiers, and restarts before I started figuring out how the game works. It is a simple game with a nice story. The base game is very limited in the amount you'll end up playing it since there are only two options of players to play as. So it loses its alure pretty fast. I keep coming back to see if any of the expansions are on sale because I would like to play it again but don't want the same game as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pale parody of the first part. And no "General" at all. In the original series there were a lot of different unit types with counter-stats and abilities. There you have something like a poor bastard of Disciples and Age of Wonders. It's a joke.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I need to begin by stating strategy games are not my thing, I have never got on with them, even from the early Empire games on Atari/Amiga, I have never seen the appeal, Civilization was my limit back then, but I would rather be farting fire and burping gherkins as Lemmy, than wiping out armies as Gandhi. However, as part of my "Clearing My Backlog" run, this came up on my list, I must have got it in a bundle or free at some point (and have marked this review as such). And while I am giving up…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An old-school, hex-based, turn-based strategy game. There's nothing particularly flashy about this game, but everything about it is solid. The combat system is effective, and not overly complicated; there's a limited number of different units, but they all have their unique role. Graphics, music, interface, story: they're all simple, but effective. Definitely worth trying, if you are looking for some retro-strategy fun. Word of warning though: like many old-school games, the difficulty ramps…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →⚔️ Fantasy General II Fantasy General II is a turn-based strategy game for people who enjoy hex grids, careful planning, and yelling “WHY DID I MOVE THERE?” at their screen. You command fantasy armies, level up units, manage resources, and fight tough battles that absolutely punish bad decisions. Combat is deep and very tactical terrain, positioning, and unit survival actually matter. The downside? Some missions feel less like open strategy and more like solving a very angry puzzle. Lose too…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is nothing but a 40$ demo reliant on DLC to make the game worth playing or have any replay value longer than a few hours. what a horrible business practice to sell a game thats not even bare bones! if you want a real game get the original.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wasn't fun for me. Every map I played, played the same exact way. Not sure if it's because I turned off level scaling but by the 5th map or so I'm against overwhelming odds. Has some weird game mechanics like you get 1 move action. If you only go 1 hex but can move 4 hex, your turn is over after moving 1 hex. Looks like other players liked it, just didn't click for me. Got it free though, so no loss.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. Very Cool !! 25+ years ago I played the original far more than I think I should have ;). It was addictive somehow... same here. FG II has so much going for it. Where to begin... The base game has 26 scenarios. 3-4 have scenario option/paths so you can go back and play the other later. Quite a few cool General/Leaders to keep near units for aura/magic support to increase unit strengths or to suppress the enemy. Through experience the Leaders gain perks to become more powerful. Each…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The multiplayer is play by email only, needlessly archaic.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was a bit sceptical because of the reviews at first, so I waited until it was in sales. Even after I bought it, I thought to myself that this would be something to play just here and there, when I want some respite from complex RPGs, or energy-draining, hard FPSs. Man, I was pleasantly surprised how composed the overall thing was at the first glance, and the game's actually got hold of me as my main go - to, lately. The self-refreshing formula of TB battles, preparation in between the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Needs DLC to be fun, but the best possible DLC would be to just pay 5 bucks to get the original Fantasy General 1
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a fun strategy game, but doesnt seem worth the $60 price tag. ill wait for the game and all DLC to be $30 before purchasing it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels unfinished.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Startup Screen Bug: By far, the most annoying bug in the game is the startup screen, which is almost always unresponsive when I try to click through it. I even tried closing all other apps to make sure there was sufficient CPU bandwidth, and this is not a low-end machine I'm playing on (msi GP73 Leopard 8rf with 16GB RAM) - this laptop plays almost all other games without any issues, and I do Unit3D development on it. This game was developed in Unity, but clearly they need to fix the splash…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the original back in the day, but this version has really improved upon the original in visuals, sound and gameplay. It's also easy to drop in and out of the game whenever you need a break, not like some games that I've played that I forget how to play and have to start over with the tutorial! :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing turn-based strategy game. So rich in terms of units and heroes variety. Also good story. Probably the best of his kind.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought it on sale for 7,80€ and I must say for that price it's worth it. I'm presumably close to the end of the main campaign but also very close to dropping it. Maps get too big and repetitive so it becomes a chore and there's less content towards the end. I played on normal difficulty so my whole army is upgraded to the max and there's no more feeling of progression. They're also powerful enough that I don't have to overthink my manoeuvres, but I imagine increasing the difficulty would make…
