60 of 211 · most liked firstI LOVED this game for years, and replayed it so many times. But I'm gutted to say it's just too much hassle to play now. Three levels in and can't get half way through before one glitch or another from running it on modern hardware, or a machine with multiple screens, gets in the way. I can't be bothered messing around with widescreen fixes, or external tools to force windowed mode, and no one should have to. Or the way the night vision keeps glitching until you change resolution and back…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tested on Steam Deck OLED! Still the gold standard for Splinter Cell and stealth in general. On the Steam Deck OLED, Chaos Theory feels tailor-made for portable play. It automatically supports 1280×800 16:10, with proper aspect ratio and crisp visuals. Runs flawlessly at 60 FPS, even on max settings. Cinematics are full-speed, sound design is intact, and load times are near-instant. Menus are slightly awkward - D-pad doesn’t navigate, but the analog stick works fine. Battery life: about 6…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A legendary stealth game. Splinter Cell stealth mechanics and levels refined to almost perfection. This review will basically act as rating boost and also so my love for this game and the series is on record here on Steam. Multiplayer is still alive thanks to the efforts of fans. Check out Enhanced SCCT Versus on Github: [url=https://github.com/Joshhhuaaa/EnhancedSCCTVersus]https://github.com/Joshhhuaaa/EnhancedSCCTVersus For even more PC port fixes, highly recommend this guide:…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. The best Splinter Cell out of all of them. Horrible PC port that requires mods to get it running though. And even then its a gamble whether the game will boot up sometimes. It should not be the consumer's job to get something they paid for running. Had I known I would have just torrented it. It is not a crime to steal from Ubisoft.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →hit 40 recently... having three screaming kids constantly running around the house is the literal definition of a chaos theory. work has been absolutely brutal too. doing IT audits all day—just constantly searching for a splinter in the cell of our spreadsheets. Was getting totally burnt out. coming home feeling completely drained. operating completely in the dark. bought this game on a whim because honestly i just needed a desperate escape from the third echelon of corporate middle management.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The DEFINITIVE Splinter Cell game. After SC: Pandora Tomorrow, I expected SC: Chaos Theory to feel more like a DLC to its predecessor..... It's safe to say I was entirely wrong. This is the best Splinter Cell game anybody will ever play. It does everything better than the last two instalments. Gameplay has been refined with a comb, allowing you to play with a more versatile approach. For starters, before getting into a mission, you can choose whether you want to go in with a stealth or combat…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is peak Splinter Cell. That is it. There are no other entries in the Splinter Cell series that even come close to what this game did in terms of gameplay, aesthetics, story, mechanics. For a dark, stealth shooter with high levels of realism - I would even say this game is peak for the entire stealth genre if those qualities are what you are looking for.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This, right here, is peak Splinter Cell. No game in the series is better than this one, despite this one still having its flaws. Graphically, this game may have aged in texture and model fidelity, but the shadows are top-notch. The gameplay is similar to SC 1 and Pandora Tomorrow, but refined to its limit. Pandora Tomorrow might have conceptually cooler levels, but Chaos Theory has significantly better execution. Gone are the forced combat sections, mostly anyways. The gadget selection is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Splinter Cell Chaos Theory AKA the Greatest Stealth Game Ever Made ⚠️ Please note: This review is only half. The continuation is in the comments below as I wasn’t aware of the characters limit (yes, I’m stupid) From all of the dozen of games I played over the years, only a few resonated with me and got stuck lingering in my head. Upon hearing the end credits music and seeing all of the talented names who made this masterpiece, I knew that it too just got a place on my list of games I won’t…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, this is the MGS3 (both in number and quality) of the series. Massive improvements to stealth, gameplay, and mechanics. A gripping story with a great blend of seriousness and humor. Fantastic level designs, interesting mission objectives, and it even has bonus objectives (though that only appears to affect ranking which offers little else than to stroke your ego). We also get loadout options (though it’s mostly assault vs stealth) to give a greater variety to playstyles. There are more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I consider this part the best in the series and possibly the best stealth action game ever released.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solo mode still holds up very well! Multiplayer is not available on this version BUUUUT If you wanna play the Multiplayer Versus mode with 3 of your beloved friends just google "Enhanced SCCT Versus" and get the github link . Its a plug and play modernized free to play version of this legendary mode!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As much as i want to love the game, It keeps on crashing before i get a chance to play it even after trying to install patches and such. I don't know if i'm doing anything wrong but i wouldn't recommend playing it for the time being
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spent over two hours trying to get it to work. So many issues I just gave up. I'll probably try it in an emulator but it's just ridiculous it's allowed to be sold in a state where it just doesn't function as it should.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is as fun as it was for me back when I was playing it back in 2005. This review is more to discuss it's playability on handheld consoles. The game runs just fine on my legion go s. There are multiple controller layouts made by the great steam community. If you are on the fence about it's non steam deck verified status, rest assured it works just fine.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fisher can definitely get a medal for this, but... "Medals don't help me sleep at night, Lambert."
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A genre defining masterpiece. Contemporary ubisoft can only dream of making something remotely as good as this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best stealth game I've ever played. The first two games were amazing and this was just incredible.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Valve claims Chaos Theory isn't Steam Deck or SteamOS compatible, but I can confirm that it works very well and there's a custom controller layout that makes the game almost 100% playable on gamepad with my Ally running Bazzite. The only issue you'll have is the map screen can't be rotated outside of changing camera angles in game. Still one of the best stealth games ever created.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, often considered the highlight of the Splinter Cell series. Chaos Theory has 3 complete modes in single-player, co-op, and versus, at the time of its release very unique. In particular, the Spies vs. Mercs multi-player was an insanely fun and revolutionary experience, that for some strange reason Ubisoft has never replicated in later titles. Unfortunately, the co-op and versus modes are dead online, so the only real content purchasing it now is in single-player.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is amazing, IF you can get it to run. I have played this game numerous times but never on the Steam version. This sucks, can't even start the first mission without crashing. Tried many fixes online, nothing works. I will be refunding this. Even for 75% off, it's not worth it to buy a game that doesn't work. Avoid buying this unless you can get it working.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic Ubisoft man. This was my favorite game in the series and I have been desperately wanting to replay it. Can't change the settings, start a mission, or even open the menu without it crashing. Good thing I got this for under 5 dollars or I would be extremely pissed off by the fact that I was sold an unplayable game. You'd be far better off either getting an original Xbox, a 360 or even just an Xbox altogether and just using the disk.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I finally played Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, apparently for many players the best game of all time. Personally, I wouldn't go that far, but I definitely enjoyed it a lot. Although it's an old game, it still has all the important mechanics we modern gamers need: tutorials, classic level design, an understandable interface, typical keyboard controls, etc. So don't be afraid that the game has aged badly. The gameplay here is great and very different from other stealth games. The enemies…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Weed Cell: Cannabis Theory My name is Sam Fisher, I'm a stoner. I'm not much of a cannabis farmer but if you want to know what i believe i'll tell you, I believe the greatest strains of weed are actually obscure.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the game. But this version is terrible. Keeps crashing and if it runs night vision and the other modes are not working.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best stealth game every created. Genre defining. I play it time and time again. For some extra fun, try the Ghost mode. You essentially play it without touching any enemies unless impossible. - First mission, have to take out the Lighthouse guy - second mission, kill Hugo (doesn't show up on your kill count). - Fourth mission, have to interrogate a one guy. - Sixth mission, kill Milan Nedich (doesn't show up on your kill count). Otherwise you can do every other mission with 0 on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still the best stealth game to date, pretty crazy considering its been 2 decades.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best stealth action game ever made, and even a contender for being one of the best games ever made. Everything is perfect. Everything. Down to the exact detail. There are some minor bugs since it is a much older game, but these are easily fixable. 10/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Yeah, I'm the real kind. Not the tuxedo kind. " Chaos Theory is still very worthwhile, but it has aged with a handful of sharp edges that can make the experience quite unpleasant. The level design mostly holds up, the interrogations and Michael Ironside's performance are still charming and funny (perhaps the best thing about the game), and the cheesy, cartoonish plot is adorable. I laughed out loud at one of the early descriptions of one of the villains being something like, "Imagine Che…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite how old this game is, its actually incredible how well they pulled the stealth aspect of it, and it still holds strong to this day, in my opinion its one of if not the best stealth game of all time
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still a certified hood classic! Makes sure to change your resolution after every level to fix the NVG issue if you don't manual patch it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The hardest part about this game is making all of the settings work. I have messed with the shaders on several different levels and everything is so inconsistant. It's probably a good game, but I'm at the New York level and it looks like I just got flashbanged every time I turn on night vision no matter what I do. If you buy this, be aware that you are going to need to do some modding.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: This is a great game that has no tutorial. And it really needs a tutorial. If you're unfamiliar with Splinter Cell, be prepared to read the manual. I'm honestly on the fence about recommending this game. Let's get into why that is. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is a classic stealth game that puts you in the shoes of Navy SEAL officer Sam Fisher, who is equipped with a whole bunch of cool gadgets like night vision, thermal and EMF goggles, surveillance cameras, and some more.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is one of the best stealth games ever made. It gives players real freedom to approach missions quietly, use gadgets creatively, and decide how much force to use as Sam Fisher. The light-and-sound stealth system remains satisfying, while the detailed levels encourage patience, exploration, and careful planning. Its co-op mode is also excellent, creating tense missions that require communication and teamwork. A few controls and visuals show their age,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still on the top of my best stealth based games along with MGS!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game 20 years ago already. And a week ago I decided to replay it. It's a great stealth game with a capturing story. In fact, more than half of story and missions I could remember, which says how good it is. It's a stealth game and I would like to compare it to Hitman. The gameplay itself is very simple. You sneak your way through levels, taking out enemies, getting or achieving objectives in some location of the level. Many times, the game provides you two (sometimes even more)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Coolest game of all time if u dont agree go ♥♥♥♥ urself : D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutley love this game. It was the first game i ever played in the series when i got it in the mid 00's with a graphics card and it was stunning then and still looks great now. HOWEVER the amount of tweaking i had to do to get this to run at 1080 without it having an aneurism was dissappointing for such an quality game. I dont think i will play it again anytime in the coming years but it also has a Coop Campaign which is an awesome addition. Would love to see these all get a modern…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the greatest stealth games of all time. When following Joshuuuaaa's Steam Guide for the game, it becomes playable on modern PC's with Gamepad support, increased resolution support, etc. If you haven't played this and like stealth games, you are in for an absolute treat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the best Splinter Cell of the series. This one really nailed it with the stealth mechanics and atmosphere. Great story, fun gadgets and levels, Enemies are smart and can follow the "breadcrumbs" to where you may be located. Definitely worth the few dollars on Steam.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've spent years waiting for a game like this. After seeing all the touches Ubisoft has been doing to Ghost Recon I really hope to see something like this again. Doesn't need to be clean and cinematic. I just want something that feels like a Thief
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well this game actually blew my mind! The improvement in lights and hud are incredible. Stealth play is absurdly good. Story is fascanating, personally i did not want to play this game at first,But in the end it's worth your playtime! This is also thé endline for me in Sam fishers storyline. Which doesnt't mean you should stop here and continue adventuring. The only thing i can say is listen to thé 'VOICLINES'
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →open game, crash, change a setting, crash,
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm just gonna pretend bathhouse didn't happen and there were no bad levels in this game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very buggy with my controller and my controller works fine with every other game. Certain actions just weren't working though here.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you put some graphic mods and controller settings, this game becomes perfect
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't believe the hype. This ♥♥♥♥ is whack. You are forced to do lame ass mini games of "hacking" and lock picking which only is there to cause player friction, there is no fun in those mini games, and you cannot progress in a lot of areas unless you enjoy that lame crap.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Many would refer to this game as the epitome of the stealth action genre in video games. With a deliberate slow, methodical, almost sim-like flow to the mechanics, and coupled with an expressive Amon Tobin original soundtrack; this game has yet to be surpassed or even imitated in its systems and aesthetics.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is wonderful, or would be if it were playable. I've had so many bugs and issues with this, I simply cannot recommend it on steam.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →“Can you please stop making me feel old?” Despite the age of the game, it is the best stealth game out there. Great story, characters with conviction, wonderful level design and a plethora of different interactions that let you replay it with ease. While it is difficult to run because Ubisoft hates making their games playable, it is worth the hassle to experience this masterpiece.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Character voice lines are muted in game. Different visions modes and a lovely choice of whiteout or blackout. Give this one a pass.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They don't make em like they used to
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →And finally, we arrive at the acclaimed Chaos Theory, which for me has always been my favorite among the first three games. As always, the game starts with an epic opening, but this time, unlike the others, it shows both stealth and assault gameplay, while the music changes depending on the playstyle being shown. For me, it’s one of the best openings in the series, at least up to the third game. After that incredible intro, we’re greeted by a menu that instantly gives me pure nostalgia.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was awesome on PS2 in 2004 and now that I'm playing it on a PC with all settings on max it looks even better with the graphics set to max. The keyboard and mouse take a little to get used to, but of course it's far more precise than the old PlayStation analog controller. If you ever played this on PS2, the jump in graphics is massive, especially in the shadow detail. What was once just a black blob with your little green light to highlight you, is now blue and black with…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The best stealth experience still in 2026. Dripping with atmosphere, great humor, and Ironside is fantastic. I installed the free controller mod and everything is working perfectly. What a game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →holy mother of peak
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not only the gameplays and its mechanics are peak, but also this game works perfectly on my Linux machine :DD No troubles with shaders 3.0, NVG filters (EM, Night, Thermal switching) like it used to have everytime you're switching windows
