What people are saying
A clever but buggy roguelike take on tic-tac-toe that divides players.
Many players praise the game for its inventive and strategic reimagining of tic-tac-toe, calling it "highly addictive, complex, and really challenging" and a "fresh take" that combines roguelike gameplay with the classic game. The special tiles and abilities are highlighted as a great touch that adds depth. [3][4][5]
However, numerous players report significant bugs, performance issues, and balance problems. One notes "extremely low FPS and crazy lag spikes," while others mention game-breaking bugs that reset progress or force restarts. The lack of meta progression and poor explanation of mechanics are also criticized, with one player calling it "the most bare bones implementation imaginable." [6][7][14][20][23]

But sadly the game suffers from what a lot of rougelikes suffer from, uninteresting maps, unimpactful events, unbalanced objects. And it also is a buggy mess, things can break your run forcing you to restart just because of a bug. There are also visual bugs that aren't game breaking, but make the experience worse. These things can be polished with time, but right now I can't recommend this game.

The classic game combined with a #deckbuilding #roguthingie where you play as a duck vs chickens. #indiedev #gamedev #indiegame #roguelike
unlabelledView post →You already know how to play tic-tac-toe, but this goes a step beyond. The rules are the same (get 3 Xs or Os in a row), but thanks to all of the X and O tiles having variants with different abilities, all of the strategies you probably know get thrown out the window. The game welcomes you with familiarity but challenges you by making you assess not just the board, but the effects of tiles and the tiles that you or your opponent can play. The roguelike structure keeps things fun and…

Here's why you should check out Tic Tactic: ❌ Build a deck out of over 30 unique, game-changing tic-tac-toe tiles 🐓 Battle through over 20 different enemies in 3 different environments ☠️ Weather brutal attacks and forge your path to the capital
unlabelledView post →Usually I am supportive of indie games. Even though this game used cliche aspects (rogue-like, ducks) of 99% indie games, I don't think tic-tac-toe is the best idea to make a rogue-like game, however I admit the idea of making skills based on tic-tac-toe tiles is good and something I would personally make, too. But again, the game has some optimization issues, such as flashing / randomly showing for a split second the battle scene, and then showing map or inventory, that split second showing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tic Tactic, developed by unbreaded and published by indie.io, is an inventive and surprisingly strategic reimagining of the age-old game of tic-tac-toe. At first glance, it may appear to be a lighthearted take on a simple classic, but underneath the surface lies a cleverly constructed roguelike deckbuilder with puzzle elements and a good deal of tactical nuance. Taking place in a world where a lone duck wages war against an increasingly bizarre and aggressive population of chickens, the game’s…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The most bare bones implementation imaginable. It's a very basic deckbuilder with zero progression
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game, but it seems like it still needs some polish. You get maybe 2 fights to scale yourself, and if you don't then the enemies are just insanely powerful. I'll try it again if there's some updates.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a unique take on the classic tic tac toe! It is highly addictive, complex, and really challenging- I could play this for hours! It requires a lot of strategy which makes it really fun! The tiles and their powers are a great touch as well! And the characters are SO adorable! Would highly recommend downloading this!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Check out this video on YouTube! Tic Tactic is featured, but it’s also just a great video that talks about originality in game design
unlabelledView post →Super fun and engaging, a fresh take on tic tac toe that combines rogue-like gameplay and a simple classic game. I recommend giving it a try!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basic tic tac toe is so boring so I wasn't expecting much from this. To my surprise though it's actually really fun and the special tiles really create skill you need to have in order to see ahead a step or two. Don't let the boring base game fool you, if you like roguelike deckbuilders then you should be able to enjoy this and know what you're getting into. Definitely worth the price. Almost forgot to mention since there's no Steam Deck verification yet, it works well on Steam Deck. I've ran…

unlabelledView post →TL;DR: The concept is intriguing, and the issues seem fixable: no meta progression, and the mechanics are not explained properly. This results in failed runs not because you've made a mistake, but usually because of an unanticipated move result. This, combined with no meta progression and no undo/explanation/feedback/hints, makes the whole loop tedious and unrewarding for me. Often, I couldn't infer from the brief description what a special piece does and when it triggers unless I tried it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The fights get hard quickly and if you don't scale fast enough you're dead. The game feels super luck based.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its good but there are some HUGE issues. Leaving a game can reset a board if you want to cheat and even send you back to the start of a world WITH all of the loot you collected from the world you already played, which means you could theoretically get infinite gear. It sometimes forces you to skip worlds and even sent me to "act 5-8" where i was in an empty grey area and reset all my progress?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →didn't expect to like a tic tac toe roguelike this much, I remember I kept playing the demo over and over again I got addicted to it, I HIGHLY recommend it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hesitate to say yeah, get this game, but I think, at the end of the day, I would. I hesitate because I am getting extremely low FPS and crazy lag spikes, which shouldn't be happening at all for a game like this on the hardware I have. But, the gameplay is still enjoyable. Hopefully, the performance issues I'm having will be patched out in the future, because I'd like to have a smoother gameplay experience. So, despite the issues I'm having, I'd still say check out this game if it fits into…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tic-tac-toe with violence and ducks. Way smarter than it looks. And the devs and community around the game is really great. Would recommend getting the game and joining the discord! (It’s in my new video about weirdly creative roguelites.) 8 Roguelites That Actually Feel Fresh https://youtu.be/vkHgsTDfCP8

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun Roguelike, instead of Poker with Balatro, this is Tic Tac Toe Roguelike. Imagine if your X tiles can shoot neighboring O tiles and you'll have an idea of why this is fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Be careful with tile-based combos; enemies can unleash devastating combos, and there are even combos that will continue until the entire battle is over.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's too luck based, I saw no reasonable progression from the 3 runs I did even though I beat the first boss multiple times, and a run is entirely dependent on rng giving you something decent of the *2* options you get after winning a fight with no way of preventing the game from deciding to ♥♥♥♥ you over. And it pisses me off the board clearing after a draw takes precedence over the tile's actions. If I place something on the last turn that would delete a tile then that action should happen…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i discovered this game on itch.io and immediately became pretty obsessed with it. i never got tired of the limited demo, but the full version is even better! i love strategy games like this that are based in a simple premise/easy to grasp rules (it's lowkey just tic tac toe) with added complexity and i love deck builders. the only complaint i have is that some of the tiles are difficult to understand, and it seems like a few of them leave artifacts that linger too long (namely the slime), so it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly fun concept, and engaging gameplay. If you're a fan of deckbuilding roguelikes, and don't mind a certain lack of polish, this is the game for you. Sadly, the game is stuffed with bugs and unintended mechanics that make some encounters frustrating, but I'm hoping to see those issues get fixed with time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game, still a lot of work to do towards balancing, bug fixing and adding features. Keep up the good work
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little game! Great way to kill some time. I just wish there was a bit more to do hope they add more soon!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/QHOC4utE-4k Tic Tac Toe is a very small play space for a rogue like game and matches either feel caught in a loop or one sided when a power title is played.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Surprisingly deep but kinda ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ feeling as you learn. A lot of games like this would ease you in and offer difficulty on an ascension system, but this game just kinda lays into you until you understand... and then there is also a hard mode later. It doesn't require luck so much as it requires you have a thick skin until you learn how to play. It's a fun spin on tic tac toe.... with a big curve. I got it in a bundle for relatively cheap ($1.66) which feels about right.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awkward buggy game that seems like it was made for mobile but some how wound up on PC.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easy to learn and challenging to master. This is a great game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game still exists a lot of errors like freezing and not going through some islands, so I hope game makers fix them to enjoy better.
