60 of 109 · most liked first30 Minute Quickie Impressions: It's well done. You can tell they spent a lot of time making it. It's easy to get surrounded and die. The combat is fast-paced. It needs another round or two with the spell checker. It's currently $1.79. That's a large order of fries. Go for it. You don't need those fries anyway.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thorne is an interesting idea for an RPG Maker title. It's set in a dark fantasy setting as opposed to your standard anime looking world. In fact, the world feels more like something ripped from a George R.R. Martin book! So, the setting is incredible! Unfortunately, that's where my enjoyment ended! The English version of the game is full of spelling errors! Nearly every paragraph has a few misspelled words. In fact, sometimes it is difficult to understand what exactly the characters are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thorne - Death Merchants is a very simple game, it plays like most RPG Maker games but instead of having turn based party combat, Thorne’s combat is real-time and very fast paced. It really caught me by surprise, it features some nice changes to the default sprites of RPG Maker and it plays in a very different way when compared to other games made with this engine. It is also worth saying that this is the first part of this series but still, the ending is not abrupt or anything, it leaves room…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite genre of game, the rpg, I remember fondly my first rpg, the amazing Final Fantasy 7, Cloud and his merry band of terrorist (yes they were terrorist, but back when the game first released terrorist meant something totally different than it does today) I still recall being amazed, the graphics, the sounds, the mini games, I couldn't play the game enough, I put well over 100 hours into FF7, and that was my first save.. other amazing games the suikoden series, who could forget Breath…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved to play RPG Maker games, especially those that has good storylines and that have some unique features that is different from the run-of-the-mill type games. Well, I had a wonderful time with this game, Thorne. The game mechanics is very unique, as we do not have he regular leveling, or armors, etc. What it has is a single weapons, and a number of different accessories slots. So, it is quite refreshing. The fighting itself is also different as well. Instead of turn-based,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine if you will some company from the 16-bit era tried to make The Witcher. Congratulations, you just imagined Thorne in a nutshell. A real time RPG with an enjoyable story, and optional side quests if you want to spend a little extra time in the country of Rowen. I look forward to other episodes coming out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thorn - Death Merchants is a Nintendo-syle game that presents a challenging - almost too difficult - series of challenges for you and your character in a medeival-fantasy environment. There is a mixture of puzzle-solving, combat, locating hidden items, exploring, and light roleplaying (not really much in the way of dialogue choices though). This is one title that i really wish there was a 'sideways' thumb as opposed to up or down. Here is my summary list of positives and negatives; +…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoy RPGs -especially those made with RPG Maker- but want something a bit grittier, then Thorne - Death Merchants may be the title to satisfy your cravings. It tells the story of the aforementioned Thorne, also known as the Crow, a mercenary that leaves a trail of dead bodies behind him. Travel through a corrupt world as you meet new people and collect bounties. A fair warning, this game contains quite a bit of vulgar language so some may find it offensive. Thorne has been taken…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Introduction Thorne - Death Merchants is a RPG maker game, which has done exceptionally well to make it their own and not another generic RPG Mkaer game with slight changes to the default tilsets. That and also the incredibly unique fighting mechanics that I haven't seen other RPG Maker games have. Gameplay This game has a fairly good and interesting story line to the game, it has some unique features to the game that differentiate it from the generic run of RPG Maker games. Let's start off…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros It cost 1 dollar for me Probably, there are good texts and story No bugs. Cons Boring game Poor battle system. Click for attack, click again for other attack. Right click for ranged atack. Press "W" to heal yourself, Press "Q" to add more damage... Repeat these actions, until you ll get bored. There were No HP/Damage info, only lifebar. So this is no tactical/strategic game. Just click, go, click, attack, click.... I probably could play this on phone, but it really stupid to spend you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thorne - Death Merchants is an action RPG based on the RPGMaker engine, and the very beginning was quite a shock to me, based on the language and innuendo being used. I was surprised, but I will make note that this is a mature type of game. It's more along the lines of something like Secret of Mana in terms of the style of action RPG gameplay. Anyway, you start as a captured prisoner, and you begin to tell your story of why you are not responsible for the current crime they are holding you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thorne - Death Merchants . This Action-RPG from Aldorlea Games and Lone Wolf Games. The story is interesting - interesting characters, dialogues. Dialogues are exciting and include a portion of humor. In games 22 achievements, and they are all hidden. I have played through the game and enjoyed every moment of it. I'd definitely recommend to anyone looking for something fun and simple to play, while still having enough of a challenge to be interesting. I found the characters charming and the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of problems make for a poor package. Combat and menu's are extremely clunky. Full screen looks poorly stretched. Natural window is tiny and cannot be resized through convenient means. Writing actually isn't bad what I played of it. Payed a buck. I wish I hadn't but not enough to refund it. I just recommend caution before purchase.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thorne - Death Merchants is an Action-RPG. In it, you follow the path of “The Crow” as he tries to clear his name for a crime he didn’t commit. The game has a good story line , a lot of time given to the development of locations , which makes it very interesting because rarely see a good product made in RPG Maker. Also, during the whole time in-game we meet different people and learn something new in that developers get a huge + from me. I do not regret that I bought this game and spent his…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dialogue is horrible. Give players options of making choices. I bared my teeth for ten minutes of "crow" and his extremely hardman, special snowflake attitude. 10/10 would refund
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game ran exceedingly slow ... for example going in between areas could take a full minute of a black screen while you waited. Also the controls feel pretty wonky and there really aren't any useful instructions that you can refer to in-game. This might be OK if it got cleaned up a lot, but right now it's not a very good game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend it to any RPG fan out there. Nice old-school graphics, cool lighting effects. Art is extremely good. Story is well paced and interesting. Thorne seems like a very promising character. Combat is fast paced, there are challenging battles and the customization is quite good. A lot of accessories to choose from. So far only 4 skills though. Some hidden content to be found, which adds to the exploration. The game's strenght lies in the story and the characters, specially Thorne,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Choppy controls and some minor spelling/grammar errors, but overall an enjoyable story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dialogue is shoddy, combat system is complete crap. Only took me a few minutes to uninstall.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this key from the developer in exchange for a review. This however does not sway my opinion. + Interesting world, combined with wonderful maps + Nice soundtrack + Cheap + Nameable Pet wolf + Achievements are easily attainable +/- Battles aren’t too hard - Slow transitions and typos - Missable optional cutscenes - Missable items Thorne – Death Merchants is a short game (2~4 hours), the first of a series of eight standalone episodic games. It’s a well-made game by experienced…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting initially. Rough around the edges. Remember that - this game is rough around the edges. On a scale of 1 to 10, it's a six. Engaging story. Nifty mechanics that have been added on. But if you can't handle playing a game that's trying to push it's envelope a bit - that needs polished, but hasn't been, don't play this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After actually sitting down and playing through this game I definitely have a few gripes... *PROS* - Great mapping/atmosphere - Witcher-like feel *CONS* - Really easy to get cornered/obliterated - No autosave - and no queues to some boss fights - Chock full of spelling/grammatical errors The game starts off pretty strong - and it had a lot of potential but it's far too short to deliver a sense of accomplishment. You're basically in this one town and you get a few quests (about ten including…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I thought the game was a lot like Fated Souls in the way the bad guy Thorne was similar to Gauly both being mercenaries and not as rotten as made out to be. In itself the game is quite good but does have problems in lagging especially when playing on Windows XP. To me the game is made more for the use of a game controller than the keyboard and I do not like using keys for the battle system. Leveling up does not seem to do much and the use of points for skill ability is alright, though there are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →not bad at all, good graphics for a 2D Game, story is pretty cool, nicely designed, i like the combat too, great for adults. i like the game overall, great job on it guys :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't recommend this game, but I also don't not recommend this game. I just more don't than I do. I played 9 minutes of this game. Here's what killed an already uphill battle for this title to win me over: Full Screen - although a mouse click was sufficient to make selections in the title menu, I had to use arrows/directional keys to select Full Screen, this was not explained. So I think a good 5 minutes of the my play time was actually just trying to get to full screen, which was found…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thorne - Death Merchants, it is the action-rpg game from Aldorlea game. The game has a delightful story and pleasant music. The story is about a prisoner (Crow, he was a mercenary) whom we will play... The game has pleasant graphics. I recommend this to any RPG fan. + Nice graphics + Very interesting story + Atmospheric music + Exciting dialogs +/- Fighting game system
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an action rpg in the classic style that has been beautifully done, featuring a great story, game mechanics with an easy learning curve, interesting characters all around, excellent supporting music, and gorgeous graphics. The story opens with the protagonist (Thorne ---- "the Crow") in jail where he tells his story of the developments that got him there. It very quickly gets your attention. Gameplay mechanics are a bit different (real time combat), but with only a minimum amount of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very interesting and high-quality game for PС.A music is simply gorgeous .
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i already played Thorne - Son of Slaves (Ep.2) so its basically the same game but both games are good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- I'm not a big fan of action RPGs, but the combat system is very well done. It's fast-paced, and since the HP and skills are renewed outside of combat, it's also very enjoyable. The game doesn't force you to backtrack or replenish at all. - The story (and the hero) is well writen, and the overall atmosphere feels quite dark. I also like the way the side-quest are implemented, all of them I've seen so far felt like natural part of the story and game seting. - The puzzles are quite hard,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →-- Too short for an RPG. It took me three hours to complete the game. - Combat system is way too simple. - Leveling system is really disappointing. - Very easy difficulty. - Thorne is a white knight idiot, and that's why he gets into trouble. His cynicism is very selective, and he's definitely too soft to be a mercenary. - Pet wolf is bugged as hell. - Nearly useless money. + Dark fantasy world. Good atmosphere. + Quite a lot of side quests. + Good map design. + Nice characters portraits. +…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A dark fantasy RPGMaker game that isn't half as clever as it thinks it is, Thorne - Death Merchants is nonetheless a respectably tight package that doesn't bog itself down by turning itself into a hundred-hour epic like its most obvious inspiration, The Witcher. However, despite its focused approach - the entire game is set within a short walk of a single small village - the game is still heavily flawed. The main character, Thorne aka "the Crow," is a fairly bland grizzled badass who loves to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its actually a great game. Reminds of when games were great. Story line keeps me reeled in. need to make this much longer! need more thorne !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not bad adventure game, quite interesting. I think, that game will continue to delight me, when I play it more. Thanks, Aldorlea Games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I rate Thorne - Death Merchants 3/5. It’s OK overall. For its price, it isn’t too bad actually. Getting this game makes even more sense when it’s on sale though. If you can get it for just over 60 cents like I did, it might even seem pretty great for the price. Thorne - Death Merchants is a fairly simple, very short, third-person perspective, Zelda-styled adventure game (seemed very similar to the visual style of the Super Nintendo Zelda game). Unlike Zelda, Thorne is filled with crass and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun 2d rpg game. Story line was entertaining and kept me interested. Looking forward to playing the sequel and longer game play, story and further development. Cheers! - Jake
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't play many JRPG games but this one is one I would keep playing, the art style of the game is quite nice compared to others you notice that there are particles like shading, lights, and clouds seem to be very well done. The story and the sprites are really cool being that the game feels like your in Game of Thrones. Whats not to love about the game you have moltovs, MOLTOVS!!! Hope my reveiw helped. (given key for review)-EeuorT
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thorne - Death Merchants is a classic 2D style RPG. With a more adult theme than most. Which can be seen in the games text script. Battles are in realtime. Attack with your sword or ranged weapons. Quick abilities Heal for insta heal and Rage for a stats boost when under 35% health. Q and E keys used for quick casting. Equipe gear and use items. Or Buy and sell them at stores. Quests to complete, sleeping at inns to heal, witches and monsters. It has everything a good RPG should have. Smooth…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game's plot tells us about the Crow. Crow - a famous mercenary who is ready to take on any business ... for a good price), our hero terrifies for each inhabitant of the kingdom ... what will happen to find yourself) Locations ... You will not find any recurring locations ... And not one recurring character ... The artists have done their job 100%. The interface and dialogs also performed excellently. A nice bonus is the achievement. And a lot of them. And of course trading card))) 10 Crow…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay, full disclosure, I sort of helped a little with this game, some light mapping and such. However, it was so little help and so long ago, that I actually forgot about this game for a while. I had to be told that I mapped some parts of it, and I still don't remember doing it. But, that's my life. Also, I played this on a crappy borrowed laptop, so there was a lot of lag on the larger maps, and I didn't hear any music or soundtrack. Sound effects were fine, just no music. Again, crappy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warning spoilers (are like this) What I loved that this game did First of all this isn’t a take turns and attack rpg as shown. Family shaming: ‘pay the ♥♥♥♥♥ if she did you she deserves it I don’t like how there’s typing sounds for the text. It gets old really fast. options menu is terrible there is a spelling error opinion. they spelt it opnions 3/5 review may chnage over time
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent RPG Maker Title
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First of all let me say that this game is one of the best of the company. I have played many games of the creator (Raphael) in the past and this game truly stands out from the rest, mostly because of the way the battles take place. The story: It's one of the game's strongest points. It's quite addicting, with a few plot twists in the end. I don't want to spoiler anything though. [9/10] The battle system: I was very impressed, since I was used to the classic way all the battles were fought…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buyer beware, the Full Controller Support is false advertising. Fiddled with getting the Steam Controller to work for more than half an hour, eventually gave up when no amount of re-mapping buttons seemed to help in any way. Shame, game looks interesting, but if developers can't be arsed to sort simple stuff like key-mapping, they shouldn't be in the business.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →★★★★☆ The story was alright, the graphics were nice, but what put this game in my excellent category was its gameplay mechanics, getting new throw-able items and being able to fight in real time rather than turn based made this a awesome RPG maker game and a MUST HAVE !!! 4/5!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thorne - Death Merchants is a game that really stands out amongst most other RPG Maker games on Steam. You can see that some real effort and thought went into character design and a coherent world that reminds me of a grim fantasy setting in the style of The Witcher. Instead of the usual turn-based combat, Thorne features real-time combat that is really neatly implemented within the limits of the engine. Albeit the english translation is a bit clumsy at times (could definitely need a language…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not like the battle system of this game, far too easy to get cornered and killed, what's wrong with the usual battle system of most greatr/good rpg. I managed to ply 13 minutes and that was enough, couldn't see me even trying to play so requested a refund.. Now for me that's a big one as I've only ever requested a refund on one other game so that shows how bad I thought this was just based on the battle system. Give us a starndard battle system and I probably would still have the game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid "classic feel-like" action RPG. A little rough on the edges with some aspects, but it's a proud for brasilian true indie production. Music is great, and a dark atmosphere is a relieve from dull phantasy games like this. Works great with the script. Kudos for the developer o/
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Action RPG made in RPG Maker VX Ace starring a surprisingly loveable anti-hero. Features some very nice music and decent gameplay. As is common with full RPG Maker games, it gets choppy when there are too many sprites loaded, especially in towns. Thankfully, it never slows down during the real action.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not Recommended
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game Thorne - Death Merchants 6/10 Heisen
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →RPG Maker strikes again! Thorne - Death Merchants is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The good: + Fine story with somehow interesting main character + Fairly good world building/setting + OK soundtrack The bad: - No auto save or save prompt just before fighting boss - Poor collision detection, i often stuck near wall, stairs or other narrow places The ugly: * Unique game play mechanics (for RPGMaker game), although it has poor balance and there's no option to rebind keys While the story/lore has some potential, it suffer from low budget production. Overall it's just mediocre…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game is rather short but it offers a solid story and characters. Combat is rough at times but I enjoyed my experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very different experience to the JRPG am used to play. it's so much better I wasn't expecting it and the plot twist was even better however the game is extremely short but I look forward to the upcoming chapters. 10/10 would recommend update: episode 2 was so much better albeit just as short as the first one. I hope the next episodes will be much longer, I'd love to dive deep in a good long episode.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game that reminded me a bit of "The Witcher", although the protagonist has no powers, but because he is a alone traveler who works for money. Despite being a small game there are some side quests to do if you want to. Perhaps the downside of this game is the combat system that becomes a bit frustrating for the player because he have to be face to face with the enemy to hit.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I usually write longer reviews but I didn't really need to spend too much time with this game before coming to my conclusion. So, I'll summarize everything as quickly and as generally as possible: "Good": -Graphics and Character Art is nice -Music is okay (For the most part, though auto settings have it turned up WAY too loud) -Interesting Ideas (For whatever that counts for) -I only wasted 50 cents on this Bad: -Horrible and clunky combat (Real time melee combat never works in RPG Maker.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fun little game. It has an interesting combat mechanic. You play as "The Crow" a hardened mercenary known for being a bit... vicious with your foes. You have been captured for a crime you did not commit. And now you need to be freed to put an end to the foes who framed you. Note: this appears to be the start of a series of such games (Episode 2 is currently out as well). Take that into consideration, if you wish...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →could be good. but controlls, Keyboard and Controller are S**t
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The part that sold me is that is the fact that this is an action-rpg. But the controlls are way too weird for me to enjoy the action. I really didn't go far enough in the game to say if it's good or not, but I'm not having fun. :/
