The Yeti
Directed by Gene Gallerano, William Pisciotta
When an oil tycoon and a famous adventurer vanish into the harsh winter of remote northern Alaska, a hand-picked rescue team endeavors to bring them home. What they don’t know is that they are trespassing on The Yeti’s territory, and the elements are the least of their worries. From TMDB

60 of 109 · most liked firstIn lieu of the DNC, I spent the evening with The Abominable Snowman (1957). A solid Hammer horror, with Peter Cushing as a scientist trying to learn about the Yeti, and Forrest Tucker hoping to capture one. It’s more psychological horror than a proper monster movie, they don’t show the Yeti much.

Cushing is wonderful as always, and the script is tight. Lots of colonial bigotries voiced by the characters, but a good film if you can get past that. #horrorsky

negative · AI labelView post →Saw Peter Cushing meet the Yeti, Kamen Rider turned into a horror movie, some bog-standard hoorahpaganda that fumbles an easy sci-fi/action premise, and a wonderful surprise with a killer whistle. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched

neutral · AI labelView post →And now we’ve got The Yeti on home release, which I think will be tonight’s pick. The reviews I’ve seen are entirely contradictory as to whether the movie hits its mark or not, so I’m curious whether it’s as artful as it seems or it’s just another so-so Sasquatch movie.

This is one of Paul Naschy's Waldemar Daninsky werewolf movies, but it doesn't matter if you've seen the others because there's no continuity. Each movie gives Daninsky a new origin story! (1/3)

unlabelledView post →true facts about me when I was a bairn (around 10): 1. I reckoned this 'Virginia Woolf' woman must be a very scary person (I'd never heard of her apart from via the title of the film) 2. I thought the title was in fact "Morning Becomes Electric." 3. I presumed The Iceman Cometh was about the Yeti.

unlabelledView post →Like a werewolf movie, The Yeti lives and dies on creature design and here it is solid. On occasion, the filmmakers seem unable to shoot, light, and edit the scenes for maximum impact/minimum “that’s a mask and a suit” disbelief. But the physical presence of the beast gives dimension to The Yeti.

unlabelledView post →Watching The Yeti There's a desultory stab at explaining what a Yeti is doing in Alaska in the 1940's and let me tell you the Bering Straits do a lot of heavy lifting. This is a basic but fun period monster movie, full of pulp stereotypes and perhaps should have been filmed in black and white.
unlabelledView post →Watching THE YETI (2026) and it is, amusingly, the second killer yeti movie I have seen with just "Yeti" in the title that suggests the title monster is a Gigantopithecus. Also, in both cases, the yeti design looks nothing like any kind of ape, much less a huge orangutan-like one.
