The Woman King
The story of the Agojie, the all-female unit of warriors who protected the African Kingdom of Dahomey in the 1800s with skills and a fierceness unlike anything the world has ever seen, and General Nanisca as she trains the next generation of recruits and readies them for battle against an enemy determined to destroy their way of life. unlabelledView post →Also, I saw The Woman King. After that film, I automatically find Viola Davis beating people ass as a concept believable lmfao.
unlabelledView post →Finally caught The Woman King tonight, and that movie kicks all kinds of ass. Damn! Cannot recommend it enough.

unlabelledView post →My ★★★ review of The Woman King boxd.it/9oZjqd Well-meaning fantasy as opposed to gritty realism, "true" story is both problematic & painfully old-fashioned. Viola Davis & Lashana Lynch shine, screenplay riddled with creaky contrivances & laughable coincidences. Expected to love it! 😪 #filmsky 📽
unlabelledView post →THE WOMAN KING shoulda got the entire cast and crew action movie options for the next decade.
unlabelledView post →Thinking about it some more Gina Prince-Bythewood’s “The Old Guard” and “The Woman King” both count. Female director + female cinematographer. Both are in the male action film vein. How does she portray “ideal male”? I will note that the romance in Guard was mostly queer, and in King felt tacked on

unlabelledView post →Purely unintentional, but my last three film viewings all examined race as a central theme (and were made in three distinctly different time frames, 1930s, 1960s, 2020s). Hmm. The Story of a Three-Day Pass The Woman King Showboat #filmsky 📽
unlabelledView post →I haven’t watched the movie “The Woman King” yet and have now put it on the top of my watch list. I did find a book called “DAHOMEY: The True Story Behind The Kingdom That Inspired The Woman King“ by Vivian Chibuife. Thank you Andrea!

unlabelledView post →I finally got a chance to watch The Woman King (2023), which I wanted to see when it was in theaters but the weekends just didn't cooperate, and this movie slaps +
unlabelledView post →Today's movie is The Woman King based on a real all-female army in Dahomey. 🇧🇯
unlabelledView post →me? 45/M watching the Woman King on FXM. Nothing like pissing the MAGA base off with a movie about an African tribe of women.
unlabelledView post →Lashana Lynch plays Rita Marley - we saw her in The Woman King. She was also in the last Bond movie, but that's not her fault. She will soon appear in the TV series The Day of the Jackal, of which I am eager to see. I loved the 1973 movie. #hatm
unlabelledView post →JE Smyth asks, 'What's your (film) energy going into 2025'? Smyth chose Bette Davis in 'All About Eve'. Great choice. Love that film (and Davis) I chose Viola Davis in 'The Woman King'. (Yup. Another Davis) Anyone screened 'NightBitch' yet? Daughter and I will see it next week.

unlabelledView post →I think I don't know how to classify 'mainstream movie' now. Going by total box office, both Everything Everywhere All At Once and The Woman King outgrossed Cocaine Bear and the Paw Patrol Movie.

unlabelledView post →... problems but that doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed. It's also missing the point on how a story is judged for accuracy. An inaccurate film has to do something incredibly bad to be noticed like 'The Woman King'. Combine this with the culture war and it gets particularly nasty on social...

unlabelledView post →71) Izogie, from the movie The Woman King. I mean the entire cast was *incredible*, but Lashana Lynch with Izogie thooooo!
unlabelledView post →@[email protected] It's not a matter of percentage. It's really a shame that all of the nominated directors are men. There were some phenomenal films directed by women this year. I'm especially disappointed that #TheWomanKing wasn't represented for #ViolaDavis or director #GinaPrinceBythewood . #Oscar #Oscars
unlabelledView post →Yeah. IndieWire made it plain. I’m still shaking my head. Especially about the best actress category when you look at the full list. No shade to the other great obvious work this year, but come on now. #TheWomanKing #violadavis #academyawards #blackmastodon
unlabelledView post →Watching the Woman King again for the 5th time today. AMAZING movie. 10000000000/10. Highly recommend. I love strong women. I've got a big ass crush on Izogie as well.
unlabelledView post →It has been my experience that, as a filmmaker, Gina Prince-Blythewood _does not miss._ BEYOND THE LIGHTS, THE OLD GUARD, THE WOMAN KING, all top-shelf. Very intrigued to see this one. gizmodo.com/children-of-...
unlabelledView post →Soooooooooooo.... Are y'all gonna go see that movie with the all black cast, original story that's not an IP, and directed by a black woman movie by the name of Is God Is? Let's not move the goal post like what happened to The Woman King.
unlabelledView post →While the broad history of The Woman King is true, the explicit details within the film are where the liberties are taken. The film's events take place in 1823, where under King Ghezo, Dahomey is attempting to free itself of its tributary duties to the Oyo empire. Love this movie, LOVE IT! 💕
unlabelledView post →You want to watch a movie to celebrate women.. It’s not a cheerleader movie or some burn book movie.. Watch The Woman King or Erin Brockovich. Slice TV, you’re 50 shades of effin stupid 🙄 The Woman King is probably the best movie out there representing women.

unlabelledView post →I second THE FALL GUY, it’s an under-appreciated but wildly entertaining & hilarious action flick. F1: THE MOVIE is also extremely fun & rewatchable. THE WOMAN KING is an Oscar-quality film that’s also exciting & full of fabulous action. THE LOST CITY is stupid-fun & highly rewatchable.

unlabelledView post →2025 watch #373: G20 (2025) Viola Davis proved she can carry an action movie in The Woman King. The plot to this feels very specific to 2025, with terrorist crypto bros and deepfakes.
unlabelledView post →She's a martial artist. She was in "The Woman King", "Black Widow (extra) and other stuff. She's a sista and she's a beast lol. She just had debut lead role in a movie called" Jade." Check it out. Having a Black woman enter the action movie genre is something needed. And she's damn good.
unlabelledView post →Loved her in that film and in The Woman King
unlabelledView post →Only two instances I've gone are The Woman King (which was pretty good and the 4DX didn't diminish it) and Alien: Romulus (which was a terrible movie but a fun 4DX experience, but I can't say it made the movie any better)
unlabelledView post →Just watched ’The Woman King’. Such a good movie! It’s a shame it got paid dust at the theaters.

unlabelledView post →Also, let's remember the movie literally named The Woman King.
unlabelledView post →I'm in the apparent minority that liked the second Pacific Rim movie, and that would have spun off into an ongoing series with him as the star if it had done better. The Woman King was also great. I think Boyega has the juice, he's mostly had bad luck so far
