Retreads Curse of the Were-Rabbit, but still fun, a very gentle intro to horror for kids.

neutral · AI labelView post →Curt Siodmak's screenplay for The Wolf Man is usually credited with introducing a silver allergy to werewolves, but he is NOT actually the originator (not telling who is, yet). The film DID embed the idea in popular consciousness though (and really, our basic idea of werewolves generally)

When the next film (Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man 1943) rolls around, Lugosi’s the Monster himself. Voila!
neutral · AI labelView post →watching "Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man" i was not prepared for a monster buddy movie where Lawrence Talbot is corralling Frankenstein's monster from getting into trouble in the local village, and the Monster is showing Talbot where to find his creator's notes in the hope of a cure for teh awoos

neutral · AI labelView post →Ages since a film, so tonight’s 📽️ was The Undying Monster (1942, dir. John Brahm), a very entertaining pulpy 20th Century Fox cousin to Universal’s The Wolf Man. More of a mystery than a horror, Brahm and company pack in low angles, shadow and bold camera work. Fantastic cast, too. Beautifully done.

She had considerable success on the stage and other film roles, but Maleva in THE WOLF MAN made her immortal. She died in 1949.
neutral · AI labelView post →#werewolfwednesday The Undying Monster (1942) imagined lycanthropy as a disease, carried here by the Hammond family. Based on the 1922 novel by Jessie Douglas Kerruish, the film was still seen as a ripoff of The Wolf Man the year before. It is original & includes elements of a “spooky old house”

Landis said he chose London as a setting as it was “horror central… home of Jack the Ripper, Jekyll and Hyde. I wanted all that Victorian Gothic.” 11/39
neutral · AI labelView post →Decided that this year, I'm going to watch all the original Universal monster movies and tonight, we watched The Wolf Man. Poor Lon Chaney, Jr., upstaged in his own film by the stars of Dracula AND the Invisible Man. They should have let Claude Raines be the Wolf Man too.
negative · AI labelView post →Remembering the legendary Lon Chaney Jr., classic film actor and horror mainstay on his 120th birthday, seminal for his roles in OF MICE AND MEN, THE WOLF MAN, the DRACULA/MUMMY/FRANKENSTEIN franchises, HIGH NOON, THE DEFIANT ONES, SPIDER BABY, and much more. He was #BOTD on 2/10/1906.

neutral · AI labelView post →For night 8 of Spooky Season: “Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man” (1943), the sequel to last night’s feature film. Good cast and further showcases Lon Cheney, Jr.’s portrayal of the tragic Lawrence Talbot.

neutral · AI labelView post →So Lon Chaney jr. played both the Wolf-Man and, as of the most recent film, the Frankenstein monster. However for their crossover film they'd have to recast one of them if they're going to interact. You'd think it'd be the Wolf-Man since his character died at the end of that film, but no.
neutral · AI labelView post →In the movie Frankenstein's Bloody Terror (original title Mark of The Wolf Man) the American film distributers needed a Frankenstein double feature, so they slapped this opening onto the film and yeah. No Frankenstein to be found in the rest of the movie. youtu.be/OA5LGCzrbVY?...

neutral · AI labelView post →One thing that boggles my mind is why She-Wolf of London is bundled in the Wolf Man Legacy Collection. The Wolf Man and its sequels were pure horror. She-Wolf is a cheap mystery movie that doesn't have any werewolves in it. Spoiler for an 80 year old movie. Sorry...

neutral · AI labelView post →I agree. I like how he’s a hero in this film. The Wolf-Man is a monster, but Talbot is trying to stop Dracula, is willing to give himself up to save Chick and Wilbur from the mob, and is the first to rush in to go save Joan. Top notch performance from Lon Cheney, Jr.

neutral · AI labelView post →35. The Wolf Man (1941) is a better film than Dracula (1931) by ever metric except its star. Dracula is sustained entirely by Lugosi's charisma.
positive · AI labelView post →Set in London, filmed in Los Angeles, on a 30-block recreation of what looks to me like Wapping. Makes it feel delightfully like a Universal horror movie – which in turn makes me want to see Burt Lancaster as the Wolf Man.

What I’m saying is, I need my werewolves to have some snap, crackle, and pop (of bones, sinews, muzzles, etc.)

neutral · AI labelView post →He was also in The Wolf Man, a movie I enjoy because you have Lon Chaney Jr. absolutely slavering and then a group of the urbanest possible character actors you can imagine, all urbane-ing the hell out of every scene. And Maria Ouspenskaya, of course, being her best self.
