The Tailor of Panama
A British spy is banished to Panama after having an affair with an ambassador's mistress. Once there he makes connection with a local tailor with a nefarious past and connections to all of the top political and gangster figures in Panama. The tailor also has a wife, who works for the Panamanian president and a huge debt. The mission is to learn what the President intends to do with the Canal. From TMDB

The first season of Kleo on Netflix has a bad America, but it's pretty over-the-top. The Manchurian Candidate (1954? Lol, 1962.) really goes after a certain *kind* of America.

unlabelledView post →You should! Boorman talks extensively about his offbeat color theories, and everybody around him is in a state of dazed bafflement. Kind of amazing that it didn't end his career, thank goodness. Have you seen The Tailor of Panama? Incredible film.
unlabelledView post →The Tailor of Panama is a fun little riff on Graham Greene’s “Our Man in Havana”, too, and the movie adaptation has Pierce Brosnan obviously having fun as a lecherously incompetent anti-Bond.
unlabelledView post →Brosnan's best spy movie is The Tailor of Panama.

He would be well-advised to read serious reports on the region. Make (Latin) America Gringo Again? edition.cnn.com/2025/01/31/a...

unlabelledView post →My theory is that he saw the 2001 Pierce Brosnan film The Tailor of Panama on TV recently and that’s entirely what sparked this.
unlabelledView post →4/5 Easily John le Carré's wittiest, most satirical novel of a tailor who makes up intelligence reports about things he supposedly hears while crafting beautiful suits for Panama's power brokers. Everyone in this novel has a special interest and an angle, and the lies, and the pushing of these lies, has consequences. Recommended if you're in the mood for some black humor with the writing of an angel. The movie is pretty good, too. #Books #JohnLeCarre #JohnLeCarré #TheTailorOfPanama
unlabelledView post →My favorite subversion of spy movie tropes is “ The Tailor of Panama”. Pierce Brosnan is a lazy, horny MI6 guy who files reports based on whatever his tailor tells him. The tailor is a fabulist and ends up destroying the government of Panama by pretending to be in contact with a revolutionary group.
unlabelledView post →Carré did write a book inspired by Our Man in Havana, The Tailor of Panama, which I haven’t read but the movie version is quite funny in parts. Especially Pierce Brosnan playing a sleazy secret agent, using all of charm he had as Bond channeled into almost a gross parody
unlabelledView post →Brosnan's best espionage movie was "The Tailor of Panama," which was better than any of his Bond flicks.
unlabelledView post →John Boorman’s resume is one of the most interesting of any director. Other credits: Deliverance, Exorcist II, and the cult classic Zardoz. He also made a really great spy movie called The Tailor of Panama that deserves more recognition. #PointBlank #TCMParty

unlabelledView post →The Tailor of Panama...so aggressively boring that it angered me. Even Jamie Lee Curtis getting her boobs out could not rescue that movie. Close second and third: Dr. Strange 1, and the third Nolan Batman movie. I fell asleep for about 30 minutes in both of them.
unlabelledView post →An original and clever film. It’s the comedic origin of The Tailor of Panama.
unlabelledView post →Yeah, I'm not an Excalibur fan. But I do like Zardoz, although I definitely don't think my focus is on "Cult" films. Deliverance is probably his best film, although The Tailor Of Panama is a guilty pleasure. I'm just really not a fan of a lot of his direction, which is a bit ham-fisted.
unlabelledView post →And he watched 35 minutes of The Tailor Of Panama movie
unlabelledView post →Yes, of course I did. I don’t it’s quite time to watch the 2001 film “The Tailor of Panama” again, though. You know…I just realized that “The Tailor” would make a great double feature with the 1959 film “Our Man in Havana”.
unlabelledView post →I think Trusk has been watching The Tailor of Panama, the film in which Geoffrey Rush plays a fantasist and compulsive liar. He goes a step too far when he tells British spy and super cad Pierce Brosnan the Panama Canal is being sold to foreign interests which almost starts a war.

unlabelledView post →The ambitious and probably quite duplicitous "Luxmore" (David Hayman) manages to salvage something for his MI6 agent friend "Andy" (Pierce Brosnan) from his latest peccadillo by having him sent to Panama to represent British intelligence. Of course he's less than impressed with a posting to this political backwater, but fairly swiftly realises that there is plenty going on to keep him occupied - above and beneath the sheets. His principal contact proves to be an eccentric tailor (Geoffrey Rush)…
neutral · AI labelView post →I watched the Tailor of Panama at the weekend and I’m still pissed off about the gratuitous grab of Jamie Lee Curtis’s tit. That was a lazy directorial choice and actually made a third rate film really poor
unlabelledView post →I've watched THE TAILOR OF PANAMA and THE NOVEMBER MAN b/c I like Pierce Brosnan. I also like Bill Granger's November Man books, but the movie wasn't much of an adaptation of them.
