negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty gross to abandon an unfinished game for several years to then just add another paid DLC out of nowhere. Do not buy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wouldn't exactly "not reccommend it" but I have to pick one or the other to post a review. I think this game might be enjoyable for children or people who are really new to the survival/crafting genre (or just people who want to play an easy game in that genre,) but as an adult who has plenty of experience with this genre, I found this game a bit too simple. I did only play single player so I guess maybe part of the appeal is that it's a simple game that you can half pay attention to playing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →thanks team 17 for baiting me into spending 15 euro for a "early access" game and then proceeding to do absolutely nothing with it for 4 years straight. not even an announcement of you dropping the development of this game besides that, the game is insanely buggy in multiplayer, can be completed very quickly (took me and my friend 2 evenings to do so) has the most basic "survival" system, boring progression and is overall lackluster. the artstyle, animations and monkey mechanic is pretty good…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How did this game reach and maintain >70% positive ratings? The controls are whack as ♥♥♥♥, there's little QoL, *very* frustrating bugs, and localisation was apparently handled with nothing but Google Translate. And with the last update having dropped in 2021, you know that nothing's coming to improve this game. The game isn't fundamentally broken, the game design works at least to *some* extend. Me and my mate will try to finish it, because we have bought it and found at least *some* fun in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay game. Item management is way too much of a chore. Even with the monkeys. Backpack is way too small to make exploration enjoyable. Late-weapons break after beating up 6-7 enemies forcing you to bring multiple weapons in limited inventory. You can find backpack upgrades but they only add very few spaces. Menu UI is very bad. Our quest list was huge with things like "find a flimsy shovel" in a camp which was right next to our base, and we never saw a shovel even after looting the place…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why the frick are you releasing paid dlc now, you haven't touched this game in years. What a load of bs don't buy this trash game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Happy Free Play Days! Game Pass members can hop into The Survivalists this weekend, while all XBOX players can try out EA Sports College Football 27, The Lonesome Guild, and Under The Waves, no membership needed. news.xbox.com/en-us/2026/0...
unlabelledView post →The Survivalists is a different take on the survival genre. In the Survivalist you don't need to do all the work yourself, instead the core mechanic of the game is the capturing and training of monkeys who can help you with combat, crafting and building. You take them along during exploration and teach them how to handle various tasks. The game itself is not that different from most games, except for the monkey mechanic. You explore various islands, build a base, craft stronger gear and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's absolutely SHAMEFUL how the devs just didn't really run with this great game, they had something amazing, now after years they do a dlc?? i'm not going to hold my breathe, if they do more consistant updates then yeah maybe.,
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Legit more paid dlcs dropped than gamebreaking bugs fixed since release :/
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This review is based on 100% completion and 50.3 hours of gameplay. Recommendation: Would I recommend this game? No, I don’t think I would as it is. I really want to, because there is a decent game here with some good groundwork, but too much of it ends up being frustrating rather than enjoyable. A lot of the core mechanics and lack of QoL really hold it back. At its core, this is a cosy survival crafter that’s easy enough to pick up and chill with, but it comes with a lot of issues. There…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game hasn't been updated in ages, nor fixed, and you drop a paid dlc? Get f**ked
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is complicated. i did really enjoy the game back when i used to play it years ago. But after around 40 hours of play time and making to half way though the game you start getting just emptiness, with nothing left to do. The game is separated into multiple islands, which you eventually get the ability to travel between. But a bunch of the islands feel empty of content, with not much to do or reasons to visit them. The game feels half finished. and was left un-updated for years, has a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's pretty boring. I keep coming back to it and being like "this time I'll give it a proper go" only to get bored and drop it again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I know there is a lot of hate for this game, but genuienly, I love it. Cozy Game about crafting and Chilling on a tropical island, with amazing music and Monkeys, what more do you want?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →wake up on remote island tame monkey tame another one before you know it you run army give them weapons and tools run around dominate anything that moves 10/10 love this game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel bad leaving a negative review but this game just feels unfinished and untested. It just feels like a chore to play at times. The escapists 2 is just so much better, I was very disappointed, this has so much potential.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is pretty boring and uninteresting. The artstyle while being different from the Escapists 2 is arguably worse and more bland looking. None of the mechanics are fun: combat is clunky and tedious, exploration is very shallow as the whole world is pretty tiny, gathering resources gets super repetitive because the game really gets grindy in the later half and the whole system of commanding monkeys is unintuitive and feels awkward. 3/10 what was even the point of making this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Similar to other resource gathering/crafting/survival games with one really interesting addition, namely the slave pet monkeys that act as your worker bees or additional fighters; whatever the situation calls for. Unfortunately, the monkeys are only capable of relatively simple actions and any actions that require multiple steps (example: harvest the material and bring it to a bench and then craft the whatever item you've told them to craft) requires three different monkeys doing each…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I actually saw my life flash before my eyes playing this game. I saw my birth. My childhood. My first love. My greatest achievement. My fall. My death. I saw the face of god. He was divine in all the ways I was not and more. He reached out his hand, and I beheld his face- It was the face of the survivalists. I was in hell. Burning. Screaming. Begging for any respite from this torture. They called it a blessing. To be given the gift of survival. But surviving is not living. I don't want to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i normally love survival games but this is one i just dont care for.. theres just nothing that i can say thats good about it cause it is kinda boring and tedious more than fun.. hate dealing with the monkeys, hate the combat.. got old pretty fast
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →hehe, Monkey go BONK The Survivalists is a survival game that you play as a castaway freeing monkeys so they work for you and help you escape this forsaken archipelago with tiered island ranging from starter friendly island to "WHY WON'T YOU DIE?" every time you fight an enemy there. You could also just stay at the starter island and build whatever you feel like, or maybe make a boat base in the middle of the ocean. Anyway you choose to play, there are a few tiers of progression you must…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didnt finish the game. I wasn't hooked in the first place. I see the vision, it just wasn't intresting enough. Play dont starve instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't understand all the hate and complaint about the lack of content. Yes, the UI isn't fancy and the plot is quite straight forward, but I think it's just enough. It's a very cute and fun game. I've spent about 60 hours to 100% the game and getting all of the achievements. Had a ton of fun with my husband. I've got it on sale and I think it's worth it. My husband and I also don't experience any bugs, data corruption or connection issue while playing together.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game way too buggy even on Multiplayer. I cannot recommend this game at all and I doubt that the devs would do ANYTHING at all to fix the bugs. Game came out 5 years ago and just damn.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want to lead brain-dead monkeys to do unpaid labor than it's the game for you. for a game, it's a bit dry but it has a start and an end so, it's alright.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Satisfactory and Factorio. I love Stardew Valley. But this game requires too much manual labor to set up the "automation" part and crafting by hand is prohibitive due to huge number of button presses and menus to craft a single item. I can't understand why the core mechanic of the game have so many steps and grind to execute. And about the monkeys a production line requires at least 3 of them but I am already too tired after navigating through so many menus after training only the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an okay game but the Private/Public option in hosting does not work. Anyone can join your game and steal stuff from your base. You can set permissions, but the default is to allow everything, and you can't change it unless somebody joined. By the time you set these permissions or kick the player, they'd have stolen a lot from you already. Apparently it has been a problem for a long time but obviously no fix has been made. If you plan to play solo then it's not an issue.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's no way to break old stuff so if you are stuck in a corner and you cant move too bad restart your world lmao this game is not worth the money or the hassle don't buy it save yourself.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is SO sad this game wasn't better, but between bugs and messy UI, pretty bad amounts of grinding, and underbaked systems for both survival and combat - this game is a pretty big let down. THAT BEING SAID - It's actually pretty fun if you treat it more like a version of Factorio that was killed in the womb, when you get into the monkey transports it is a little fun, especially with home decorating. AT MOST buy this on sale, but I can say it is, while not always, still pretty fun. (Getting a…

unlabelledView post →Fun game, but I feel the developer is either lazy or incompetent. The game has a glitch that prevents monkeys from gaining building exp that has been reported multiple times over 5 years and no effort has been made to fix it. That aside... Flaws: *Most structures cannot be rotated (meaning the tile set doesn't cover any more than 1 orientation. Chests & doors always face south while beds & crafting stations always face longways. *right click serves the same effect as the F key on structures…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good game, sad the ship was to finish the game and not something you could use.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun, but not an entirely refreshing experience. Gameplay loop will eventually get to you, as the mechanics (and, consequently, the "grind") get pretty straight forward very quickly. The controls and the combat seem a bit janky, and the game isn't without a quirky bug here and there. However, the castaway setting has seldom been properly displayed in a video game, and the overall feel, sound and environment of the game are truly spetacular. Adding the colouring palette, the different…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Update: I recently just installed it just to see if the game is playable at the very least [09/24/26] and its dead. I can't even chop down trees using a basic handaxe or free a monkey or even chop grass. Game is dead DONT BUY IT........so sad. Whatever they did like release the new DLC they really screwed up the game's basic controls. You can't do anything... For real go buy some other game like Terraria or Stardew Valley. Don't bother with this game anymore.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not terrible, but not great. First of all, it feels like the developer's ambition waned dramatically - maybe they were against hard deadlines or just got tired of spending time on this, but it has a general feeling of being sort of half done. To be clear, the game mechanics and everything are complete and playable, but there have been moments where it felt like maybe they wanted to do a lot more with it than they did, or at least I saw a lot of potential for making it a more robust, interesting…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played this solo and honestly had a blast. The monkey mechanics are the highlight, having them automate tasks is super satisfying, and I liked that I didn't have to rely on them for combat in dungeons... well, sometimes I had to. Progression felt balanced. It got a little repetitive at one point, but once I found the ship and had a clear final objective, that feeling went away. Also, this was my first time really trying a pixel art game and I was surprised by how much depth it has; it doesn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game is unfinished and abandoned
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I picked up this game a long time ago and only recently decided to return to it and complete a full playthrough. I'm not sure why I initially gave up on it, but I mostly enjoyed the most recent playthrough. On the surface, it is a survival, crafting, and base building game. Every action from building, to crafting, to fighting, requires interaction by the player. Thankfully, there are monkeys scattered all around the islands that you can train to perform your menial tasks. In fact, if you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tried playing this game with a friend, but we keep getting kicked out of each other games. We've played other games together without problems, but survivalists doesn't want us to. Sometimes we connect, but after a few minutes the guest is kicked again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful pixelated graphics, sweet ideas, but poor execution and boring gameplay The Survivalists is a crafting survival game with a small twist in mechanics, instead of automating your farms and crafts with schemas and factory like buildings, you use Monkeys. Originality stops there, the remaining mechanics are crude and repetitive. You'll spent the majority of time watching your Monkeys craft things for you after you give them the order, the rest is going back and forth between…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Oh Survivalists, you're no Escapists..." (This game really just isn't that fun or interesting)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fun to play with friends and slavery the monkey. Just like the old time
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Corrupt save data after 31 hours of progress? How does that even happen on a modern game? Good game, but now i hate it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is really good, but has it's limits. It has basics crafting and survival game mechanics, and the monkey labor mechanic is also really interesting. But other than that, the game is lacking and it feels empty. And the temple puzzles could have been better, coupled with stronger enemies. Having pvp options would also make the game much more interesting. This game is definitely not getting any updates, so don't have any hopes for it. Even so, getting this game on a discount is definitely…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this game, especially if you plan on going for 100% Achievements. Sure, building a monkey army to survive and create your base is cool, but that’s where it ends. There are just so many problems with this game. Crafting is a disaster: you can only craft one item at a time, and when you need to mass-craft, it’s a nightmare. No sorting in chests and most importantly: the inventory… my GOD. I have never felt so limited and frustrated by an inventory that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →got a new monkey... call it Nichole, INSTANTLY ♥♥♥♥♥ OFF AND GET KNOCKED OUT PICKS UP A BOW.... WITH NO ARROWS I HAVE BEEN RUNNING AFTER A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MONKEY ON A DEATH MISSION!! ... after FINALLY getting her back... ... ♥♥♥♥♥♥ off AGAIN to collect stone and thats where she will stay not again 10/10 MONKEYS!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a shame because the game has so much potential that it simply just squanders. It's janky and counterintuitive, and frankly, it's rather displeasing to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →other than the island being made out of sand and grass. THIS IS NOT A SANDBOX GAME! The controls are way to rigid, learning the play style isnt intuitive youll need a degree before you start enjoying. Eeeek and Eww. On the positive note, nice visuals, controller supported, well made all together just incorrectly marketed. Tutorial is text based trash, goodluck!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun cozy game where you determine how aggressive you are fighting mobs. Build your safe zone, collect supplies and craft items to help you survive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very charming concept with how you use the monkeys to do things, and its mostly well done. I appreciate they can sort my inventory lol
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I beat the game on my switch, its fun but very grindy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm still really mad how they dropped the ball on this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great small community and even more enjoyable gameplay, bugs, glitches, and annoying aspects are built in but look it as indie style and its probably my favorite game and introduced me into this style Not perfect by any means But a good game that anybody should try at least once (I may have gotten addicted at one point)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is great but for some reason i cant break trees with the hand axe anymore, im not sure why this is happening but it only happened after i let the game do changes to my pc, please fix this bug and this game will be perfect
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game keeps breaking and removing my progress
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →not worth the 15 dollars in the slightest and hasn't gotten a major content update for 4 years. If you really want to play the game that much, wait for a sale (and I still wouldn't recommend the game on sale) Edit: The game seems to be back in development. Maybe keep an eye out
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →they don't update anymore
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome chill game lovely gameplay. I used to play this game on Xbox and then finished the game with my friend after that I forgot about, but after getting a PC I remembered this game and now it has become such a cool and great journey back into this games world.
