The Room Next Door
Ingrid and Martha were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →I missed the brief pro-Palestinian protest during the NYFF Q&A after Pedro Almodóvar's The Room Next Door. But I can report on the film: A moving, impassioned, autumnal story about facing death and responsibility to a friend, with Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton doing exquisite complementary work.>

unlabelledView post →Pedro Almodovar's first English-language film, THE ROOM NEXT DOOR, is a profound commentary on human connection and death with stunning performances from Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore. Absolutely beautiful film. 🎥 #filmsky #fyc
unlabelledView post →THE ROOM NEXT DOOR is the less good version of TASTE OF CHERRY which did what Almodovar's film is trying to do without affect or contrivance. With the exception of PAIN AND GLORY, I must confess I've never fully vibed with his magic-realist Sisk-surdity so mileage will surely vary.
unlabelledView post →I just saw Almódovar's The Room Next Door. Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton are exquisite and while the movie is visually gorgeous it's a bit clunky and dark. I definitely I prefer his Spanish movies. That being said, I'm glad Maurice Umansky is getting some meaty acting roles to rival Kyle's.

unlabelledView post →The Room Next Door (24): Plays with prickly dynamics and themes with elegant nuance. Buttressed by two dynamic lead performances (part. a raw, unfussy Tilda), the film asks big questions about the limits of love and friendship. I still wish the film had slightly more blood or melodrama. Good. B+

Maybe it's because I have a personal relationship with cancer death but man, that movie impacted me more than anything I've watched in recent memory. Haven't been so moved or provoked by a piece of art in a long, long time. Recommend.

unlabelledView post →Always a delight to see Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton in things, this movie is one hell of a Bechdel Test pass. Life, Death and a very contemporary rant from John Turturro's character (which could have come from me, frankly.) A movie about death? A movie where there are no scenes with someone screaming in existential misery on the floor? 1/3

There was, what seemed like a lot of product placement for Apple and Prada, which distracted me from a story that wasn’t clever and lacked actual drama. In my bottom three PA films, at least it’s not as bad as I’m So Excited or The Room Next Door 😒
