The Reluctant Dragon
Humorist Robert Benchley attempts to find Walt Disney to ask him to adapt a short story about a gentle dragon who would rather recite poetry than be ferocious. Along the way, he is given a tour of Walt Disney Studios, and learns about the animation process. From TMDB

31 of 31 · most liked firstStoryboard sequence of Ward Kimball flipping through a stack of animation paper - from Disney's THE RELUCTANT DRAGON (1941). Not entirely sure if Ward himself drew these or J.P. Miller, who actually did the boards for the BABY WEEMS segment from the same film. #wardsmorguefile

unlabelledView post →Fun fact: the talking train Casey Jr first appears in the early 1941 Disney film The Reluctant Dragon. This means that his appearance in Dumbo in October 1941, with his song "Casey Jr's Back", is one of the first recorded instances of a Glup Shitto

Propaganda and other war-related films aside, some of the nose and patch art were official and donations from Disney. https://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/Visit/Museum-Exhibits/Fact-Sheets/Display/Article/196132/disney-pins-on-wings/ >Walt Disney Productions created approximately 1,200 designs during World War II for both American and Allied military units. Designs were also created for other organizations such as civil defense and war industries.…

unlabelledView post →#movies The Reluctant Dragon (1941) — I have a goal to watch all of Disney's animated films, and I suppose this should be included. This is about two-thirds middling documentary (about how they make animated films) and one-third cartoon shorts of varying quality.
unlabelledView post →Watched the movie The Reluctant Dragon (1941). It was good. I liked the production processes being shown in fun ways, the animated segments, as well as the transition to color around 1/3 in. I liked the dragon, they were cute. #disney #cartoons

unlabelledView post →4. The Reluctant Dragon (1941) this was more of a live action film than an animated one it was a cool way to see the behind the scenes of what i believe is the real disney animation studio at the time the animation itself in the last third was nothing that special or memorable imo
unlabelledView post →The Reluctant Dragon was apparently about a guy visiting Disney's studio to pitch a movie about a dragon, and after spending some time touring the studio and seeing the animation process, he finally meets Walt to pitch the film...to find they've already made the same film. It didn't make much sense
unlabelledView post →And obviously, the Reluctant Dragon segment itself (which ends the film) is a ton of fun. There's some solid comedic bits, the charm of Disney's 40s animation is on full display, and the dragon was a lot fruitier than I expected. I really liked him, though!
unlabelledView post →Watching The Reluctant Dragon in my Disney animated movie watch. It’s really half-animated/half-live action. The main character you follow is a dickhead. Not a fan. But a lot of it is cool because it shows how Disney movies are made (sort of)!
unlabelledView post →The eponymous short "The Reluctant Dragon" is far and away the highlight of this hodgepodge package film, so I'll just recommend watching that. It's just a Ferdinand the Bull type story, but with a campy dragon and silly old knight who just want to drink tea and recite poetry.

Though, her personality is closer to the original telling. She can't exactly wear a uniform, so she had a collar like Grim's made.
unlabelledView post →If a movie was in a series, I'd try to watch that series, and that basically ended up adding up to watching Walt Disney Animation stuff in order for a while. Movies and Shorts. The Reluctant Dragon, all I remember is the racist caricatures in Baby Weems haha. I think about that more than Dumbo.
