The Promised Land
Denmark, 1755. Captain Ludvig Kahlen sets out to conquer a Danish heath reputed to be uncultivable, with an impossible goal: to establish a colony in the name of the king, in exchange for a royal title. A single-minded ambition that the ruthless lord of the region will relentlessly seek to put down. Kahlen's fate hangs in the balance: will his endevours bring him wealth and honour, or cost him his life...? From TMDB

unlabelledView post →Barack Obama har simpelthen en dansk film med på sin top 10 over årets bedste film: The Promised Land, der herhjemme hed Bastarden. Tillykke til min gamle filmskolekammerat Nikolaj Arcel og hele hans hold.

He was #BOTD on 3/6/1926

So watched Angelina Jolie in "Maria." REALLY good! Followed w/episodes of The Twilight Zone. Merry Xmas/Happy Hanukkah!

unlabelledView post →run don't walk to your local indie theater to watch The Promised Land, a film that offers everything you could possibly need from the art of cinema: mads mikkelsen, candlelight, gorgeous yet harsh scandinavian landscapes, and a villain as subtle as joffrey targaryen.
unlabelledView post →I watched the Danish film “The Promised Land” on BBC 4 last night. Well worth a look if you enjoy depressing and slightly bonkers Scandi-noir movies.
unlabelledView post →Fabulous film The Promised Land on BBC4 tonight. Kind of an 18th century settler western set in Norway with a great storyline, fine acting and one of those perfect endings. Well worth your time if you don’t mind English subtitles
unlabelledView post →FILM RECOMMENDATION: Mads Mikkelsen western The Promised Land (2023), aka Bastarden, one of the best films of last year. Available on BBC iPlayer.

unlabelledView post →The writing I'm doing for establishing the state-side story of Goblin: An Ethnography is partially influenced by that Mads Mikkelsen movie "The Promised Land" which is actually a pretty good depiction of many a social and bureaucratic dynamic of European settler colonialism. I recommend it.

This film specifically examines Israeli state PR strategies to invisibilize and legitimize the occupation. 79 minutes of important media literacy ed. I watched a low quality version in full on YouTube.

unlabelledView post →The Promised Land was such a hard movie to watch. It was beautiful and devastating and bittersweet, like so many of Mikkelsen's Danish films. I spent most of the movie anxious in the theater expecting yet Another Terrible Thing to happen to him. 🥲 +

unlabelledView post →I found this horrible movie called, Joshua and the Promised Land. It’s filled with stiff dialogue and monotone voice acting! It also has questionable things in it when it’s considered to be family friendly. 🤣🤣🤣 It’s so bizarre!
unlabelledView post →#Badvent2025 "Joshua and the Promised Land" (2003) OK, this is bad even for a Christian kids film.
