The Patriot
After proving himself on the field of battle in the French and Indian War, Benjamin Martin wants nothing more to do with such things, preferring the simple life of a farmer. But when his son Gabriel enlists in the army to defend their new nation, America, against the British, Benjamin reluctantly returns to his old life to protect his son. From TMDB

The Americans watch 'The Patriot' and are like "Fuck, yeah!" The Scottish watch 'Braveheart' and go "that didn't happen, and Mel Gibson's a cunt in real life"

unlabelledView post →Just replace every Mel Gibson scene in The Patriot with Jason’s dong. It would improve the film infinitely.
unlabelledView post →If anyone suggests The Patriot with Mel Gibson I will hunt you down while you sleep. That movie is an abomination of history.

unlabelledView post →Decided to watch The Patriot for the 4th this year because that movie and the country both suck in some fascinatingly similar ways.
unlabelledView post →I think a lot about how fast certain people memory-holed the post-9/11 era. "freedom fries." Muslims replacing Nazis as the default bad guys in every movie. how new ICE and the Patriot Act are. wave after wave of protests. Bush tanking unprecedented levels of global goodwill in like a month
unlabelledView post →This strikes me every time I see a movie from, say, the 80s, how different police look. Since the Patriot Act citizens of the US have become used to seeing "law enforcement" kitted out like they´re about to invade Mosul.

There isn't a ton of reporting on it, but Flock is losing a ton of cash thanks to local privacy movements. Just in September they lost 100+ contracts. They've lost almost 400 since June, in 36 US states. Seeing the response is the first thing that's given me a flicker of hope since the Patriot Act passed.
unlabelledView post →Yeah, this is about what I expected. But also lmao. Imagine making Mel Gibson's The Patriot seem like a real movie.

unlabelledView post →Recording a future @warmovietheatre.com episode on The Patriot yesterday, @duncanweldon.bsky.social and I discussed the lack of films about the American Revolution, and maybe answered both Q's... Every Hollywood exec can remember a Revolution movie that bombed, and a Robin Hood movie that boomed.
unlabelledView post →went to see Chicken Run in theaters (I was 9 at the time). get through the previews, movie starts, first words on screen: MEL GIBSON, then my mom starts thinking "wow this claymation looks so real" turns out we were in a screening of The Patriot

unlabelledView post →A student told me today that his favorite movie is The Patriot. I told him I saw it in the theater when it came out, and he was simply awestruck. I guess being from last century does have a few perks?
unlabelledView post →at no point in the movie The Patriot is the title character patriotic.

unlabelledView post →Before tomorrow's episode of The House of Pod is released, I recommend you watch the 1998 Stevan Segal movie, The Patriot, in which he plays an MD/PhD. Actually, you don't need to watch it, just listen.
unlabelledView post →I've been a part of the Patriot Guard for over a decade. This movie does a great job of capturing how it feels, good and bad.
unlabelledView post →The movie basically turns to the camera and says "Wow the Patriot Act was fucked up! Also Nazis still exist btw." and I'm so glad they did, fantastic film.
unlabelledView post →Wow I'd love to see a horror movie made by a guy who turned Batman into the most ham-fisted and unsubtle endorsements of the Patriot Act and a condemnation of Occupy Wall Street type movements tossed in for flavor.

unlabelledView post →2025 #watched 🧵 #1 The Patriot A VHS fave as a twisted kiddie, this is the weirdest goddamn milquetoast movie ever. Ethically monstrous, sexually deviant, violently jingoistic, parodically earnest; it's hilarious from start to finish.
unlabelledView post →I find it hilarious that the RTÉ2 movie is The Patriot. #GE24
unlabelledView post →Especially that the jingoism feels very tongue in cheek and piss takey (as you'd expect from a German director), but then The Patriot does that entirely sincerely. So are we actually meant to take Bill Pullman seriously and the film just does it badly?

unlabelledView post →My wife and I loved this show! And did you see Michael Dorman in The Patriot? (Series, not movie.). First season was amazing!
unlabelledView post →Today’s poem isn’t about “The Patriot” starring Mel Gibson despite borrowing an idea from a piece of dialog from that film.
unlabelledView post →the fun thing about this is Gallipoli (1981) dir. Peter Weir is a masterpiece, Braveheart (1995) dir. Mel Gibson is a well-made movie with genuine virtues, and The Patriot (2000) dir. Roland Emmerich is a piece of shiiiiiiiit and they’re each INCREASINGLY inaccurate about the British

unlabelledView post →What's striking about Enemy of the State is how much it feels like a post-9/11 movie, even though it came out in 1998. After 9/11, the Patriot Act, expanded warrantless surveillance, NSA data collection, and later the Snowden revelations made the movie’s paranoia seem much less far-fetched.
unlabelledView post →The Patriot would graduate from dumb popcorn movie to certified classic if it ended with Mel Gibson's fake Revolutionary War hero getting elected president over George Washington
unlabelledView post →You obviously didnt watch The Patriot: The Greatest American movie made starring ONLY real Americans.
unlabelledView post →IMO The Gladiator, The Patriot, and Braveheart are the exact same movie set in different time periods. Also imo, SuperKitties, PJMasks, and Paw Patrol are the exact same show but with different species of superheroes. I despise all three of these kids shows btw.

unlabelledView post →Okay.... Am I crazy or is that from The Patriot?? And if so did they not watch the movie... Cuz it's not about sending immigrants back.... It's a stupidly bad fake history about punching evil military....
unlabelledView post →Rewatching The Patriot today, though it has its issues, like any movie based on history. If you would like some excellent analysis on it I recommend listening to @herberthistory.bsky.social’s pod. #Reckoning #HATM I may skeet through some quotes & thoughts as I watch today for funsies.

unlabelledView post →Only Mel Gibson would think of taking a historical figure that was known to rape his slaves and slaughter Indigenous peoples and decide to make a movie where they are the hero. The Patriot
unlabelledView post →The Patriot. Ironically Mel Gibson was the star of that film.
unlabelledView post →I always think of that movie The Patriot where every 30 minutes they'd kill off another one of Mel Gibson's kids so he'd keep having reasons for revenge, like the one wasn't enough
unlabelledView post →Have you seen 'The Patriot'? Awful bloody movie. Anyway the main character is a retired soldier who's (somewhat) against war and spends his time building furniture badly.
unlabelledView post →The worst Fourth of July movie is The Patriot, which I saw in theaters and filled me with rage. It’s the wooooorst.
unlabelledView post →Time to watch Heath Ledger in The Patriot!❤️🤍💙🇺🇸 Hubby and I will always miss him!😢 #HeathLedger #ThePatriot #movie
unlabelledView post →True even if it was disingenuous. But the 1998 Godzilla movie, the Patriot, 2012. So many of his movies are just the most bottom of the barrel stuff he thinks the audience wants, he looks down on them. Unlike Boll, he’s at least not a scam artist. I have to give him some credit.
unlabelledView post →I declared The Patriot possibly the worst movie about the Revolution.
unlabelledView post →Celebrating 4th of July by watching Roland Emmerich's "The Patriot". It's classic Emmerich: melodramatic and condescending but it's solid formulaic filmmaking for big flicks like this. This is also the movie that exposed Sony for planting fake reviews of its studio releases.
