The Pale Blue Eye
West Point, New York, 1830. When a cadet at the burgeoning military academy is found hanged with his heart cut out, the top brass summons former New York City constable Augustus Landor to investigate. While attempting to solve this grisly mystery, the reluctant detective engages the help of one of the cadets: a strange but brilliant young fellow by the name of Edgar Allan Poe. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →The Pale Blue Eye (2022) I am confirmed Goth Girl 'cause this entire movie was just AESTHETIC.
unlabelledView post →Also reposting this study of the Pale Blue Eye with Le Croquemort as this scene was so moody. Not the greatest movie but a fun cinematic for vintage/victorian thriller lovers

unlabelledView post →My ★★★½ review of The Pale Blue Eye boxd.it/87y7L9 West Point murders. Gruesome body tampering. Grizzled Christian Bale is on the case, enlisting aid of young cadet named Edgar Allen Poe. Fantastic concept, handsome, atmospheric. A lack of suspects make primary mystery too obvious. #filmsky 📽🎥🎞🎬

Cast: Christian Bale, Harry Melling, Fred Hechinger, Gillian Anderson, Robert Duvall, Lucy Boynton, Toby Jones, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Timothy Spall, Charlie Tahan, Simon McBurney, Harry Lawtey. #Noir
unlabelledView post →There are two Edgar Allan Poe at West Point horror films I've been watching every year since 2022, when they both came out. THE PALE BLUE EYE and RAVEN'S HOLLOW. The first has higher aims and is based on a novel the second is a monster movie. I enjoy them both.

unlabelledView post →Not for Halloween viewing but I'm also a big fan of Cooper's HOSTILES - a western where every time someone tries to do a cool western thing it goes disastrously wrong. (His Netflix movie THE PALE BLUE EYE *does* work for Halloween but I didn't love it or review it.)
unlabelledView post →Robert Duvall passed away at the age of 95. His film credits number around 149. His Film Debut was as Arthur "Boo" Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). His last film appearance was in the 2022 film The Pale Blue Eye. What was your favourite Robert Duvall film?
unlabelledView post →Huh. Funny old world. My nearly 80-year old mum just texted me to tell me that she loved the film "The Pale Blue Eye". Of all things. I didn't love that one but I did enjoy it (even the "Scooby-Doo" denouement.)
unlabelledView post →Every ep is an adaptation of a Poe story but also the whole series is & tells an original modern story at the same time. I've watched/rewatched like 6 times. Also on Netflix is the Pale Blue Eye, a movie that's fictional but uses the real detail that Poe temporality was a student at West Point.
unlabelledView post →While the whole movie is nice to look at, I think this is my favorite shot from "The Pale Blue Eye." Something about the color grading, their clothing, and the way they're posed just really does it for me.
unlabelledView post →Scott Cooper (Max) would later direct Gillian Anderson in the movie The Pale Blue Eye (2022). #XFilesLive
unlabelledView post →How on earth did anyone assemble a cast that stellar for a movie as terrible as The Pale Blue Eye? Yikes.
unlabelledView post →Just finished reading “The Wildes.” Wonderful book about Oscar Wilde, his wife and their 2 sons. Written by Louis Bayard, who also wrote “The Pale Blue Eye,” made into a film. Listening to that now!

unlabelledView post →I'm finally watching "The Pale Blue Eye" on Netflix, and between this movie and the 2012 movie "The Raven" with John Cusack, I now want a historical horror detective series where Edgar Allan Poe solves crimes in old timey America.
unlabelledView post →#HarryMelling is sublime in #ThePaleBlueEye. Incredible. #EdgarAllanPoe #Film
unlabelledView post →3 mins into The Pale Blue Eye and I’m annoyed by the voiceover exposition which was 100% not in the original script. I know nothing of this movie and I KNOW that was not in any script anyone in this signed on to be in.
unlabelledView post →Henry Melling makes an amazing young EA Poe in The Pale Blue Eye. Would like him in a better film please!
unlabelledView post →I noticed this happening in the film The Pale Blue Eye. Despite being set around the West Point Academy, basically the entire cast is British. Including Harry Melling, playing Edgar Allan Poe
unlabelledView post →Robert Duvall’s last film role was in the Netflix adaptation of The Pale Blue Eye. Book and movie were both excellent. #HATM

unlabelledView post →Watching an odd little movie, The Pale Blue Eye or something. Christian Bale as haunted detective, Harry Melling as Edgar Allan Poe, and goodness, Timothy Spall, Gillian Anderson. If nothing else, the casting director did a good job.

unlabelledView post →Recommendation for The Pale Blue Eye. Harry Melling did an amazing job as Poe too.. it is well crafted and dark movie...
unlabelledView post →Watching The Pale Blue Eye and it's an okay film but the dude playing Poe is literally him
unlabelledView post →"The Pale Blue Eye" is an absolute masterclass in slow-burn atmosphere. 1830s serial killings lit by dim, flickering candlelight—hidden beneath a story about the lengths fathers go to for their daughters. And that final double-layered plot twist? Completely redefines the whole film.
unlabelledView post →Harry Melling — once Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter film series — has also played a young Edgar Allan Poe in The Pale Blue Eye. He told me the goal was showing Poe before the myth: “charming, awkward, and searching for a sense of home.” www.lpm.org/music/2023-0...
unlabelledView post →Also watched a movie I'd been curious about for a while - THE PALE BLUE EYE on Netflix, where Christian Bale plays an investigator in the 1830's who teams up with Edgar Allan Poe (Harry Melling) to solve an occult-ish crime. A great vibes movie, even if the mystery drags a bit. Fantastic cast too.

unlabelledView post →I thought Harry Melling was amazing as a young Edgar Allen Poe in THE PALE BLUE EYE, and the oppressive darkness of the film reminds us how ubiquitous light is now. But otherwise I found the movie meandering, and it pulled all its punches. I think I wanted it to be meaner.
unlabelledView post →I’ve been thinking about Gillian Anderson’s performance in The Pale Blue Eye almost every single day for the past few weeks. Did she think it was a different type of movie? Was it a dare? It’s like she is overacting for a parody, while everyone else is moody and subtle.
unlabelledView post →The Pale Blue Eye (2022) Edgar Allan Poe and a Constable team up for a murder investigation. More of a drama than a horror film, it is quite slow burn and you won't see the end coming. On Netflix.
unlabelledView post →One overlooked Poe portrayal was Harry Melling in The Pale Blue Eye. I loved the gothic tone of that film. 🥹 youtu.be/ddbL9jvg77w?...
unlabelledView post →#Movie: The Pale Blue Eye (2022). During his brief time as a cadet at West Point in 1830/31, the 21-y-o Edgar Allan Poe becomes involved in the investigation of a lurid and complicated murder case. Grade: good! #movie #horror
unlabelledView post →The Pale Blue Eye (movie) If you haven’t watched it, it holds your attention until the final moments when the truth is revealed. After all the pain & suffering, Augustus Landor will always be left with a hole in his life that can never be filled… Very suspenseful twisted ending you may not expect.

unlabelledView post →The Pale Blue Eye Adapted and directed by Scott Cooper; starring Christian Bale, Harry Melling, Toby Jones, Lucy Boynton 1830. As he investigates a murder at a military academy, a disillusioned detective comes across a young Edgar Allan Poe. Great dynamics between Bale and Melling. But the final act reveals are too coincidental and the direction too tame for the movie to deliver on its otherwise clever literary premise. Netflix/Rating: C #ThePaleBlueEye #MovieReview #Movies
unlabelledView post →The Pale Blue Eye on Netflix was a *good* movie. Well acted, looked beautiful, superb ending. Henry Melling deserves more work, he was also in Ballad Of Buster Scruggs and was great there. If you like period pieces or murder mysteries, you should not miss The Pale Blue Eye. #ThePaleBlueEye #netflix
unlabelledView post →Just watched #ThePaleBlueEye . Went in blind, pleasantly surprised. Decent period thriller, lots of style, good performances. Worth a watch.
unlabelledView post →Tonight I watched The Pale Blue Eye. It's a pretty good mystery movie with decent plot twists. I did figure out half of it by the halfway point, but was surprised by a couple things in the end. Now is bedtime with the fat cats e serve.
unlabelledView post →Movie Review: The Pale Blue Eye. Edgar Allan Poe is one of the main characters and he's my favorite author with Agatha Christie. Really good movie, surprisingly. Kept my interest and I didn't even think of the twist at the end.
unlabelledView post →Ok, finished up the Pale Blue Eye, and I can’t help but think that the book MUST make more sense. It’s a film that every now and again makes you feel like it must be your own fault you are having a hard time following it, but no… it’s just the writing and editing.
unlabelledView post →An idea I've had since watching The Pale Blue Eye, an OK film with an excellent Poe courtesy of Harry Melling doing a great job channelling his grandfather.

unlabelledView post →Apocalypse Now (archi culte), le Parrain (culte) et pour terminer son tout dernier film, The Pale Blue Eye dans lequel il était comme toujours parfait !
unlabelledView post →I watched The Pale Blue Eye earlier today. While I do love a gothic horror timepiece, most of the movie was just seeing Harry Melling making a freaky face. At least the set design was neat.
unlabelledView post →I saw The Raven a while ago and thought it was fun. Between that movie and The Pale Blue Eye, someone should make a detective series where an increasingly-neurotic Edgar Allan Poe solves macabre murders across 1840s America.
unlabelledView post →“B'Twixt Now and Sunrise” was not the greatest movie. It wasn’t even a great movie. Doesn’t have to be. Val Kilmer and Bruce Dern made it possible to enjoy. Even had mentions of Edgar Allan Poe which had me wanting more (received later with the movie, The Pale Blue Eye). Goodbye, Madmartigan.
unlabelledView post →[13] The Pale Blue Eye (2022) Dull. The performances and sets are too good to make the film bad, but the story is so formulaic that it cannot be compelling. It feels like a high production netflix film in every sense of the phrase (derogatory). 4/10
