60 of 197 · most liked firstI’ll tell you what fundamentally bothers me about this new Road House movie. I know they made Dalton an ex-MMA fighter because they were like, “it doesn’t make sense a bouncer would be famous.” And the moment they said “it doesn’t make sense” they had NO BUSINESS making a Road House movie.

unlabelledView post →I think some people are confused about ROAD HOUSE (1989). It's a good movie that is also very dumb, not a "so-bad-it's good" bad movie.
unlabelledView post →Not a single one of the NYT top movie memes I’ve seen even ranks Road House. That’s how I know all of you have horrible taste. Watching it this weekend just to prove a point.

unlabelledView post →Doug Liman got screwed by Amazon who refuse to release a fucking Road House movie in theaters (!!!!!!!) and isn’t having it
unlabelledView post →ROAD HOUSE (1989) is closer to like PREDATOR (1987) which is another incredibly stupid but well-made mid-budget 80's movie than it is to like, a MST3k incompetent schlock-fest that can only be enjoyed ironically. The movie works for the reasons the filmmakers were trying to make it work.
unlabelledView post →you know what would be a good bit is to set an otherwise unrelated movie in the Road House (original) universe, which is to say one that's just like normal reality except "famous bouncers" are a concept everyone knows of and thinks is normal
unlabelledView post →the whole first 30 minutes of Road House i was like "this feels like a movie where Joaquim de Almeida shows up as a corrupt official or businessman" and then blammo
unlabelledView post →Watched the Patrick Swayze cult classic Road House last night for the first time. Baffling. Swayze was in a violent martial arts movie, the baddie was in a Bond film, and everyone else was in a feature length episode of The A Team.
unlabelledView post →No one has ever been more beautiful in a movie than Sam Elliott in ROAD HOUSE
unlabelledView post →There are a lot of things I love about the movie Road House. But one of them undoubtedly is that it has these two guys in it and as combatants, they are on opposite sides of the conflict over the road house.

unlabelledView post →It is not possible to make a movie as stupid as the original Road House, in the way it was stupid, on purpose in 2024, and these are purposeful filmmakers, so you do lose that element. But turns out you can make an *odd* movie on purpose in 2024, and that's what the new Road House is.
unlabelledView post →Did I spend the entirety of the climax of Road House 2024 (a movie I found entertaining, even as I wished it was weirder) thinking about this exchange from my Welcome to The O.C. interviews? Well, I didn't not not spend the climax doing that.
unlabelledView post →I am the author of PAIN DON'T HURT: MEDITATIONS ON ROAD HOUSE, a collection of 365 short essays on the Patrick Swayze film Road House. It is substantially longer than The Return of the King.
unlabelledView post →ROAD HOUSE is, in my opinion, not half-good. letterboxd.com/andrewmoxon/...
unlabelledView post →May I recommend IN LONELY PLACES: FILM NOIR BEYOND THE CITY, by my friend Imogen Sara Smith? It's a great book on that very topic. And she mentions Road House. :) mcfarlandbooks.com/product/in-l...
unlabelledView post →This movie is sort of like Road House if it was about a teenage James Spader who sings songs and has Robert Downey Jr attack people with dogs and yes it’s as good as it sounds
unlabelledView post →Remembering one of the greatest of all time, Ida Lupino, born in London, England, February 4th 1918. Watch her for free in the excellent noir Road House (1948) starring with Richard Widmark and Cornel Wilde on YouTube here: youtu.be/WC5fod_vDT8?... #filmsky #moviesky #botd
unlabelledView post →Texas Paul, you are calling it like it is with gerrymandering and the righteous democrats who would like to resist it. Long preached we are too kind, turn the other cheek, apologizing a lot. Like Patrick Swayze said in the movie Road House “ Be nice until it’s time to not be nice”. 😎

unlabelledView post →It's funny how I can say with some confidence that no one on god's gray earth has ever thought harder about the Patrick Swayze film Road House (1989) than me.
unlabelledView post →I’ve always liked film noir but I didn’t become a full fledged noirista & Ida Lupino fan until I saw Road House at the Egyptian Theater, 2019 TCM Film Festival. #TCMParty
unlabelledView post →Saw the new ROAD HOUSE and I’m not quite sure I understand deciding to remake that movie and carefully extracting everything that made it memorable or unique but hey I’m not a high-powered media exec so what do I know, anyway here’s a pic of Jake Gyllenhaal
unlabelledView post →#filmsky #moviesky #filmnoir “Now, baby, I'm not trying to rush you.” ****** “Silly boy.” One of the best slaps in film noir. Ida Lupino, at her best, really gives it to Cornel Wilde #BOTD Road House, 1946
unlabelledView post →Road House!!!! a bar brawling ugly sexy sweaty bloody broken movie. I need to fuck this old man.
unlabelledView post →right now feels like an exactly perfect time for you to check out our GOOD MOVIE essay on Road House goodmovie.substack.com/p/road-house guaranteed you will laugh out at least once or i will venmo you $100
unlabelledView post →i mean, you know I'm gonna say Road House, if you haven't seen it. There's no other movie like it, because as silly as it is, the editors and cinematographer worked on basically every major genre film of the 80s and 90s, from The Fog to Back to the Future to Die Hard to Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
unlabelledView post →Share a bartender from a movie or TV. 🍸 My choice: Pat from Road House (1989)
unlabelledView post →Thinking about about the Road House folk horror post and now I want to ask: What’s your most “hear me out” opinion on a film or other piece of media that you think would count as folk horror, even though others might disagree? Mine is Twin Peaks
unlabelledView post →I look around at all of your staring eyes uncomfortably. “uhhh … the film Road House starring Patrick Swayze?” the crowd immediately roars to life, louder and louder. cacophonous. their cheers become frenzied screams as they rush the stage and devour my flesh. at last, I am happy
unlabelledView post →Real ones know that Road House (1989) is a film about the diverse professional opportunities available to humanities majors.
unlabelledView post →I’ve always thought of ROAD HOUSE as a good bad movie that allows viewers to laugh at dumb 1980s tropes. But it’s goddamn CITIZEN KANE compared to the 2024 remake.
unlabelledView post →I’m gonna day something controversial here but the new Road House is actually quite funny and an enjoyable movie to watch
unlabelledView post →Anyway not hugely surprised to discover the Odyssey expert did not get enough of compensatory value to overlook the holes in Nolan's approach to the material. How could she, of anyone? It'd have to be the greatest film ever made. On the other hand I liked the Road House remake fine, so who knows.
unlabelledView post →As your President, I will put ROAD HOUSE (1989) in the National Film Registry & give Rowdy Herrington the Congressional Gold Medal.
unlabelledView post →The mystification factor of nostalgia aside, the original Road House can claim superiority in at least 2 things likely to never work on film again: Pleated khakis Every form of mullet known to man represented in a single small town bar at all hours, on both male and female employees and patrons

unlabelledView post →Blackthorne: Tell him that while the re-imagining of the source material is brilliant, the visceral nature of the action is undercut by the use of computer-generated effects, resulting in an ultimately gutless imitation of the original film. Mariko: The Anjin is reminiscing about Road House (1989).

You’ll hear about other movies of the era like “Kiss of Death,” “Gentleman’s Agreement” and the identity of “the hottest star in town.” pmbryant.com/x/letyoursel...

unlabelledView post →I was actually 17 when it came out, but ROAD HOUSE is this movie for me. Once you accept the idea that it's a fantasy film taking place in an alternate universe where there's such a thing as a nationally famous bar bouncer, it's brilliant.
unlabelledView post →I've already come across the ROAD HOUSE remake on cable five or six times, proving that it is truly a ROAD HOUSE movie. Right now it's on IFC which is better than whatever other channel it was on because they don't censor the cursing.
unlabelledView post →As part of our strand celebrating Ida Lupino we will be screening: The Ghost Camera (1933) High Sierra (1941) Road House (1948) Woman in Hiding (1950) On Dangerous Ground (1951) Beware My Lovely (1952) While the City Sleeps (1956) Passes available here: ti.to/film-noir-uk...
unlabelledView post →Time to watch one of the greatest movies ever made (I am 100% serious when I say this) starring one of the most unique movie stars we ever had (you know it's true). Let's be happy to be alive: let's watch ROAD HOUSE.
unlabelledView post →Also: if you are a friend of @antlervel.vet, do not pass on a chance to see a movie with her. At one point Keanu Reeves makes a reference to “Patrick’s Road House,” and Stella and I turned to each other at the same time and repeated, in unison and in reverence, “Patrick’s Road House.”
unlabelledView post →The mists of time and nostalgia helped us forget Road House was an absolutely stupid movie with crap production values. And our collective amnesia led to a shitty remake.
unlabelledView post →Currently watching Road House, and it’s just plain a work of art. It’s like I’m watching a painting come to life!
unlabelledView post →Well, I’m done feeling in a funk tonight, I just turned on Road House, my favorite movie.
unlabelledView post →I love this Die Hard is a Christmas movie thing and you can have a debate about it. However, Road House is my Thanksgiving movie, just because I’m thankful for Dalton.
unlabelledView post →It's Michael's turn to pick the movie. So we're watching Road House (the Jake Gyllenhaal version...) (I made him watch Pretty Woman last time)
unlabelledView post →The Road House remake is ok - decent casting, some funny quips, pretty good cinematography overall But the whole time I was watching it all I could think was "why", if there was ever a movie that really didn't require a remake it was Road House and this adds virtually nothing to the conversation
unlabelledView post →Everything is a joke to me except the movie Road House
unlabelledView post →if you start Road House at 11 pm you’ll be watching a badass movie at midnight
unlabelledView post →Sam Elliott is so hot in Road House that somebody wrote a blog post on how to dress like his character in that film 35 years later. I mean are we supposed to notice Patrick Swayze or something? bamfstyle.com/2024/08/09/r...
