Can I just start by saying I really wanted to DISLIKE this game. I am a pretentious DDR player who played for 4 years and beat almost all content DDR, ITG, and Stepmania had to offer. So this game strolls along and is all like "look at me, I'm a dancy game" and I thought it was just stupid, I mean look at that guy with the afro, is he a wizard, is he a disco dancer? wtf is this game?! Then I played The Metronomicon at pax and ho-ly-crap I was instantly addicted. Everything just made sense,…

No jokes. Serious review. Deadpan serious. This is literally DDR with an RPG laid overtop of it. Down to the song menu and difficulties. If DDR doesn't appeal, tread carefully and watch your time played in case you want a refund. I only have a bit clocked as of this review but I can tell you it's DDR with an RPG. If you're into rhythm games like DDR, FFR, and Stepmania then you'll find yourself at home rather quickly as the game gently insists there's totally room for an RPG in Stepmania.…

I love rhythm games. I've played everything from Gitaroo Man to Rock Band to Project Diva. I'm not amazing at rhythm games. There aren't many that I'm able to consistently do well on the highest difficulties of, but I can make it through all of them without much issue. I love RPGs, from Final Fantasy to Baldur's Gate. I like to think I'm pretty good at those. Before I go on, I should probably speak towards my short time playing this game on Steam: The controller support was finicky and so I…

This is very similar to a game called Before the Echo (previously Sequence), which is probably one of my favourite games. It's basically Stepmania + RPG elements and combat. You have several lanes with tracks following the song, each with different spells and attacks. The problem with Metronomicon is that it goes waaay too far into the rpg field with little care of how (or rather IF) the two genres synergy. In Sequence, you had 3 lanes: an attack lane, a defence lane, and a spell lane. Each…

rithm game meets pointless grind + only local multiplayer + music is kinda repetitive and gets boring fast + controller support is terrible (i have to emulate my xbox one controler to be seen as a 360 controler so the game recognize it + it doesn't register controller inputs correctly)

I want to live in this universe. I love everything about this game. I want to impress gay raving squirrels while striking flawless disco moves to summon lightning bolts to smite the most stylish and colorful succubi. Really though, the mood and atmosphere click so hard with me it's unreal. Everything involved - creatures, locations, fashion, combat maneuvers, attitudes, dance-combat, juxtaposition of the mundane and the exotic - is so wild and outlandish and curiously it all works together…

Game should specify which gamepads it works on. You cannot play on a standard 4 arrow as the game requires 3 additional buttons besides the directionals.

Metronomicon is a DDR/Stepmania RPG, complete with fantasy tropes, level-ups, character abilities, equipment, side-quests, and pretty much every other box you'd want checked when investing in an RPG experience. The main problem it suffers is that beyond combining these two separate genres in a serviceable manner, there isn't much else on offer in terms of interesting or unique content. The game is only playable with the included soundtrack, which ranges from pretty good head-bopping anthems…

Sleek artwork and interesting concept, mixing rhythm beat and battles Good quality and variety of music included, though the voice acting included is terrible. Terrible controls, especially if using joystick or in a Deck, and the battle animations do break the flow of the rhythm beats, so the only reason to get the game would be for the battle system, which is fairly interesting and certainly unique. Overall, overpriced compared to its full fledged competition. Passable, but not memorable.…

Quick Score: 3/5 Notes: A relatively unique twist on the 4k genre. However personally wasn't a huge fan of the soundtrack overall, the characters/story/dialogue is extremely bad only really enjoyed probably 25% of the OST, and the entire rpg mechanic of the game never really is all that relevant. And by that I mean even on hard difficulty, there are numerous fairly obvious builds and setups you can use that make it so you don't really need to pay attention to the main gimmick of the game at…

If you dig Guitar Hero or DDR, you will love this game. The soundtrack is amazing, and the play is super interesting and fun. Be warned: You HAVE to be decent at rhythm games, or you will find this game incredibly difficult, even on easy. If you suck at Guitar Hero, you will suck way way worse at this, because there is a lot more going on than just hitting keys at the right time- you are also planning attacks, switching between heroes, and strategizing. You have to be able to think quickly…

Beneath the forgettable story, terrible dialogues and somewhat uninspired art, there is a pretty damn good rhythm game. It has been evidently made with a lot of love and has a lot of content. The music is mostly pop which is not my preference, however, there is a bit for everyone (one song is reminiscent of Dan Deacon for example, and another track during the last boss has some prog which is unusual for these games, plus there's some a bunch of somewhat metal tracks), so overall it was better…

The only complaint I have about this game is the lack of exposure. I have been searching for rhythm games and this never popped up! I'm glad I finally found it. It's tricky, because you have to jump around your squad, keeping in mind what sequence their abilities are located, executing combos with no misses, etc. I like that part. Keeps my mind on my toes and my toes on my mind.

It's not an objectively bad game, it's just... not for me, I guess. I enjoyed Guitar Hero/Rock Band back in the day, but keeping track of one stream of notes was hard enough, let along four separate streams of notes and health bars... Playing The Metronomicon felt like being in the middle of a hurricane, all sorts of things flying around and I'm just focused on not getting blown away and not having fun at all. Sorry devs, seems like a well-made game, for people who can handle it.

I thought this game sounded great, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting into it. Having to switch back and forth between different party members as you play is very awkward and messes up my rhythm. I also really don't like how you get kicked out of a song if you run out of hp. There really needs to be an option to play for fun/workout purposes so that you can keep going until the end of the song. I was hoping to play this with a small child, but she can't last 15 seconds at the easiest…

This game... this game is just a work of art. A diamond in the rough. I'm so sad this game isn't known, the word needs to be out to all lovers of Rythm-based games. Because this is my absolute #1 favorite Rythm matching game in the whole wide world. The gameplay is exiting. The story halfway takes itself seriously, the voice acting is enthusiactic,, the soundtrack BOPS and the cutscenes are incredibly cheesy, but looking past the cringe it really adds some charm to the game and its characters.…

The game doesn't seem to know it's audience as the difficulty of the steps cap out at around a measly DDR 13 or ITG 8. Charts are well written and work great with an index playstyle so it's a shame that the difficulty level never went up to anything interesting. The battle system is difficult to learn as it's hard to keep up with what is going on and what affects what all while following the steps. Later it gets pretty easy to cheese the bosses and it becomes a slog of playing through the same…

Absolutely hands-down the BEST soundtrack to a rhythm game I've ever played! I was huge into DDR and RPG's in the early 2000's (still am really, lol), so this is the best of both worlds with an absolutely amazing song list, fun characters and challenges that will make you question your expertise in ups downs lefts and rights! Worth every penny!

The Metronomicon: Slay The Dance Floor is an older game from 2016. It's a venerable 8 years old at the time of this review. It's an unabashed, lazy ripoff of Guitar Hero (Copyright Activision Blizzard, 2005). Many lazy "amateur" developers don't pay attention to their obligations under copyright law, and often steal the ideas of actual, real game developers without credit, such as the "developer" here has done. At this stage no legal action has been taken by Activision Blizzard against the…

Even though The Metronomicon: Slay the Dance Floor is a few years old, I bought it recently after it was featured in the Save&Sound Indie Music Festival. While this game definitely has its flaws, it is overall among the best rhythm-type games I have played on Steam to date, and might be worth picking up if you are after that type of experience. This game is a hybrid RPG-rhythm mashup, but the rhythm aspect outshines the RPG. The rhythm portion of the game is exactly along the lines of…

Pretty fun if you like rythem music type games plus an rpg party system you have to deal with and select what abilities to use on the enemies. You can also equip your party with differint stuff to help you win the battles which is cool. Like, if this game didn't come out 10 years ago, I'd be suspicious it was AI generated. Not because it's slop, just because it's.... fine.... All of the above would be forgivable if the mechanics of the game didn't also grate. Button combinations are annoying to execute with the control layout options available. Some good music in here, and I found the overall conceit to be really charming! But I have three major issues with this game: First, engaging the elemental systems requires looking at the monsters on the right side of the screen, and that means taking your eyes off of the notes that need to be watched and hit accurately. Second, this is a music-driven game but not a music-reactive game. That is a design choice and not a flaw as such, but for me personally it makes a rhythm game far less fun…

I've been burned by "You like A? You like B? How about A + B!?" games before, but this one actually really works. The rhythm part is what you would expect from a falling arrow rhythm game, but the fact that you have to decide which abilities to use and switch between characters makes it feel completely different from a standard rhythm game. You will use two parts of your brain and it is really fun. My only criticism of the game is that while there are a few gems in the song list, for the…

Possibly the greatest thing to happen since I've had a blast probably putting quite a big play time into the game through discord Now why am I buying it on here? Haven't played too much yet, but lots of fun. Does not have a great indicator of when you miss beats, but there's a consecutive beats counter in the corner that works well enough. Biggest pet peeve so far: If you're doing a challenge that, for example, requires 80 consecutive beats, you can't just get to 80 then exit the stage, or go afk, you have to actually play it through. Its essentially seems like the same pose repeated, which is pretty bad considering the relative simplicity of the characters, and the fact that you spend most of the game watching the same ones. 3- There doesn't seem to be much to decide or impact in terms of strategy in this game.
