The Mask
Timid bank clerk Stanley Ipkiss discovers a magical mask infused with the spirit of the Norse god Loki. Donning it transforms him into an unrestrained, green-faced, cartoon-like wild man. While the mask grants him the confidence to woo a local singer, it also makes him the target of a ruthless mobster. From TMDB

The first Italian horror film, opening the floodgates of an iconic era of film history Black Sunday has Barbara Steele as a dual role of the witch and the victim, as well as zombies and vampiric rites. My God, what a rad movie full of big ideas. Chuck was an amazing writer.

unlabelledView post →The Onion AV Club review of The Mask of Zorro mentioned "the almost comically beautiful Catherine Zeta-Jones," and that's exactly right: When I saw that movie I literally burst out laughing when she appeared, not believing someone could be that gorgeous.
unlabelledView post →Oops, I nearly forgot to make a movie recommendation for tonight! Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is a fantastically clever slasher movie spoof mockumentary where a film crew follow a would be slasher villain who wants to follow in the footsteps of Jason and Michael Myers, etc.
unlabelledView post →The director is not on Bluesky, but “Saq’nikte’ and the Spirit of the Mask” is a Guatemala-Uruguay short film I’ve been helping out for a little bit, and it’s almost done. It’s pretty cute too 👇👇 #indieanimation

unlabelledView post →Is The Mask of Fu Manchu a horror film just because Boris Karloff is in it and it contains creepy scenes of torture? Maybe, maybe not. Instead of posting Boris in his, um, remarkable makeup, here are the ineffably pretty Charles Starrett, who gets stripped and pawed, and marvelous Myrna Loy.

It's why I find movies like "Son of the Mask" and "Master of Disguise" so fascinating to watch and learn about to understand the choices the filmmakers made.
