The Many Saints of Newark
Young Anthony Soprano is growing up in one of the most tumultuous eras in Newark, N.J., history, becoming a man just as rival gangsters start to rise up and challenge the all-powerful DiMeo crime family. Caught up in the changing times is the uncle he idolizes, Dickie Moltisanti, whose influence over his nephew will help shape the impressionable teenager into the all-powerful mob boss, Tony Soprano. unlabelledView post →I think The Many Saints of Newark. It’s not a remarkably bad movie, but it’s extremely violent and has no redeeming qualities. Like, oh, I guess I’m gonna watch a man drown his mistress for nothing. I guess I’ll pay $15 for this experience. Cool!
unlabelledView post →Decided to rewatch The Many Saints of Newark for the first time since it came out. Talk about a film that I do not like at all, but still very much appreciate what it's trying to do.
unlabelledView post →I'm watching the "Talking Sopranos" podcast RIGHT NOW, snd they're talking about casting him in THE MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK. A lot of people were disappointed in that movie, but I really enjoyed it...took a day off to see it the very first day it was in theaters!
unlabelledView post →TRIVIA: Veteran 'Sopranos' director Alan Taylor directed 'The Many Saints Of Newark'. Series creator David Chase intended to direct the film himself but had to bow out due to family issues. Chase chose Taylor as director because he had directed many of Chase's favorite 'Sopranos' episodes. (IMDB) 🖤

unlabelledView post →They should have tried to make THE MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK funny and insightful like THE SOPRANOS instead of a generic mob movie. That would have been good, I think.
unlabelledView post →Just watched The Many Saints of Newark (Sopranos prequel) and while the ending of the movie wasn't nearly as disturbing as the last scene of the series, it was equally frustrating.

Soprano was such a loving tribute to him. 2. A spoonful of peanut butter. I’m not hungry but wanted to make sure I ate something. #HATM

unlabelledView post →Was it ever confirmed that The Many Saints of Newark was turned into a Sopranos film at basically the last minute? Because it really feels like David Chase just wanted to make a film about the Newark race riots.
unlabelledView post →The Many Saints of Newark Unfortunately, the movie is an unfocused mess. It would have made a fantastic miniseries if the story were given room to breathe. Instead, it jumps erratically from scene to scene. The casting for most of the roles is incredibly spot-on but the film looks shit

unlabelledView post →I think the only movie I've seen so far this year was The Many Saints of Newark, kind of a bland film trying to capitalize on the success of The Sopranos like 15 years too late... The one positive thing I can say is the guy who played young Silvio did a amazing job. The baby Chrissy scene was funny.

unlabelledView post →The Many Saints of Newark Pretty unnecessary movie tbh, it's fine enough but kind of bland, only fun when you see all the old characters for a long time. The references seem kinda forced to be like "oh yeah remember this?" End was pretty shocking tho (and kinda dumb)

unlabelledView post →The only reason I wasn’t cast as Uncle Junior in The Many Saints of Newark is anti-Sicilian discrimination plain and simple. It’s a movie about a Neapolitan family I get it but the dude they hired isn’t even Italian!
unlabelledView post →It’s always fun to finish a Sooranos rewatch with Goodfellas and play “Spot the Sopranos Actor”. There is even more Godfellas actors in “The Many Saints of Newark” but we DO NOT speak of that movie.
unlabelledView post →The Many Saints of Newark is The Sopranos meets The Godfather Part II, and the result is so much less than the sum of its parts. Do we really need to know that Tony Soprano was once a chubby brat? Moreover, do we really want to know that that chubby brat grew up to be Michael Gandolfini? Michael would certainly be a chip off the old block, if his father had been Oswald Cobblepot instead of Jim Gandolfini. This is truly a case of the apple falling a million miles away from the tree, but then…
