unlabelledView post →"...And yet, like antihero Rupert Pupkin in a waiting room, The King of Comedy refuses to go away." Yes, a great film. I much prefer it to Scorsese's other movie about a bad comic, Raging Bull.
unlabelledView post →"I can't watch Scorsese movies, they're too violent" when the hardest film of his to watch is The King of Comedy.
unlabelledView post →Now that I’ve seen The King of Comedy (1982) for the first time, I realize that Taxi Driver wasn’t the only Scorsese film that served as inspiration for Joker (2019). Far from it. 🤭 Joker feels like a reboot of that brilliant film that was ahead of its time—now one of my favorite Scorsese movies. 👍
unlabelledView post →I'm just going to say it... "Joker" wasn't a good movie. I'm old enough to recognize it's a mashup of Taxi Driver, and The King of Comedy. Without needing to be told that. It's not deep, it's not introspective. It's vapid. No offense to the actors, they work with what they're given. #movies
unlabelledView post →Watching the Mr Scorsese documentary… wild that The King of Comedy - my favourite Scorsese movie, in fact quite possibly my favourite movie ever - was a gig he accepted reluctantly, hated making, and apparently still feels distant from. Well I guess he’s entitled to his opinion!

unlabelledView post →This was great, I love Robert De Niro and Sandra Bernhard! This whole movie I just felt for Jerry Lewis’ character and wow Joker was sooo heavily based on this… another great film from Martin Scorsese, no surprise there. #filmsky My ★★★★★ review of The King of Comedy on @letterboxd: boxd.it/aNHTF1
unlabelledView post →one of the Oscars the first one was nominated for was best adapted screenplay, which I can only assume refers to Todd Phillips adapting Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy into a much worse movie that I paid the thick end of £20 to see

unlabelledView post →I’m on to the ep of Mr. Scorsese where he talks about the King of Comedy and was surprised to hear that he felt little connection to the film and mostly remembers it for the stressful shoot. Pretty remarkable that such a pointed critique of mass media could emerge from such an unfocused process.

unlabelledView post →The King of Comedy (1982). Funny, dark, deranged movie about fame and fandom.
unlabelledView post →Now watching Scorsese's THE KING OF COMEDY. Probably the main difference between this and JOKER is that I'm actually going to finish this.
unlabelledView post →I've been enjoying Scorsese season at the cinema. It was great to see Goodfellas and The King of Comedy on the big screen, looking forward to The Wolf of Wall Street tonight 🎥 #filmsky

unlabelledView post →The King of Comedy. This film is a longtime favorite of mine. My aunt took me to see the movie during its original theatrical run. We saw it on a Tuesday night at a theater in Lakewood, California. I have loved the movie ever since. I have also seen it countless times over the years
unlabelledView post →Gonna do a Joker Rewatch today. I think this is my first time since I watched in theatres. I remember being disappointed since the film felt like a remix of Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy while being not nearly as good as these two 📽️
unlabelledView post →If I can only knock out one more movie today before they expire off Criterion Channel, should it be THE KING OF COMEDY or YOU CAN COUNT ON ME
unlabelledView post →I guess it is no surprise that they hated The King Of Comedy -- most ppl didn't "get" this film when it first came out. It is just so funny to me to see these bad reviews collected at the back of a book about how great the filmmaker is, especially the ones that are now regarded as classics.
unlabelledView post →The King of Comedy. This movie was actually the first movie I had seen starring Robert De Niro. My aunt took me to see this film during its original theatrical run. We saw it on a Tuesday night. I loved the movie. I have seen it countless times since. This film brings back great memories.
unlabelledView post →In this week's issue of Check Book, I wrote about a bunch of famous actresses losing out to an unknown in a very uncool pair of jeans and an uncool t-shirt, that old schmuck Jerry Lewis, and the core inner turmoil of the film stylist Martin Scorsese. More simply, I wrote about THE KING OF COMEDY.
unlabelledView post →The King of Comedy is a perfect train movie.
unlabelledView post →This Monday at 9 PM Pacific on #ImpromptuTheater , it’s Martin Scorsese’s THE KING OF COMEDY! Rupert Pupkin has a dream to be famous, and when he meets his talk show idol, he does whatever it takes to make the dream real! You can find the movie on Amazon Prime!

unlabelledView post →Now watching: The King of Comedy (1982)
unlabelledView post →So after finally watching The King Of Comedy: 1. So The Joker was literally just this movie. Damn oh ok. 2. Joe Spinell in The Last Horror Film > Rupert Pupkin 3. Rupert wouldn’t have any leverage over me talking about “give me a tv show or I’m shooting Jerry Lewis”. Like lol where’s the threat?
unlabelledView post →#149 The King of Comedy Great movie, fuck Joker.

unlabelledView post →some quick thoughts: 1. Paddington in Peru - yep, that's a Paddington movie 2. The King of Comedy - turn the TV off 3. Scott Pilgrim Takes Off - new take on old setup. it's cute 4. My Bloody Valentine - tis the season. some fun kills and a folk song about murder in the credits
unlabelledView post →i am watching THE KING OF COMEDY for the first time. i was wondering why everyone isn’t talking about this movie all the time, then i realized maybe it’s because all of culture is now held hostage by Rupert Pupkins permanently and also politics & we elected him president forever

unlabelledView post →People recommending The King of Comedy feels like a very knee jerk reply. I mean a) I’ve seen it and b) it’s hardly a “Jerry Lewis movie”
unlabelledView post →Happy Birthday Actor, Comedian, Writer, Singer Sandra Bernhard♥️ Have loved her since her one woman show WITHOUT YOU I’M NOTHING (also a film). Was in Scorsese’s THE KING OF COMEDY. Have seen her live many times. Bisexual and a strong supporter of #LGBTQ rights. #PrideMonth #TCMParty #ComedySky
unlabelledView post →This movie must have been a struggle for Todd to make since The King of Comedy never had a sequel.
unlabelledView post →finally watched The King of Comedy, can confirm, Joker is basically that movie plus Taxi Driver if they both really sucked.
unlabelledView post →Very amused that the latest Joker film appears to have flopped because its audience expected Todd Phillips to, I don't know, rip off Scorsese's The King of Comedy again like he did with the first one, and he ripped off Scorsese's New York New York instead?
unlabelledView post →the only way I can conceive of someone enjoying the first Joker film is that if they've never seen Taxi Driver or The King of Comedy and therefore they are not being constantly reminded of better movies at every. damn. single. scene.
unlabelledView post →Casting DeNiro was such an odd choice because you do not want to draw attention to the fact your movie is a bad facsimile of The King of Comedy.

unlabelledView post →“The King of Comedy” is a rare movie without any admirable characters. I love how all the actors committed to playing unlikable characters and never tried to soften them.
unlabelledView post →Watched The King of Comedy yesterday for the first time in decades. Such a brilliant film. Deserves to be remembered among Scorsese's very best.
unlabelledView post →For their primetime lead-off movie the night after "31 Days of Oscar" ended, I have to give it to @tcmtv.bsky.social for starting with a movie that is as divisive as "The King of Comedy." They could have just played this at 2 a.m. or something. #TheKingOfComedy #TCMParty
