unlabelledView post →Great piece! I love the 1996-1998 mini film movement of "adults making really bad decisions and/or being really sad in the snow" with this, Fargo, The Ice Storm, The Sweet Hereafter and Affliction. We should bring it back
unlabelledView post →We’re about to have an ice storm, so I’m thinking of Ang Lee’s magnificent 1997 THE ICE STORM, which so galvanized me I wanted to make films just like it. It’s a perfect movie. The cast is incredible, and key parties are forever in the national lexicon. The book is fantastic, too.

unlabelledView post →None of them ever got close to crouching tiger, though. Lots of them were great, but there’s something transcendent about that moment when we got a martial arts movie by a guy who could also direct The Ice Storm
unlabelledView post →I’d be interested to know how the depiction of the suburbs in movies in the 90s & 00s has impacted urban planning. Movies like American Beauty, The Ice Storm, Ghost World & SubUrbia all show the isolation inherent to suburbs. This seems to have decreased their popularity since the movies came out.
unlabelledView post →Almost unfollowed someone on Letterboxd because I thought they gave THE ICE STORM 2.5 stars, but it was some other movie with “ice” in the title 😮💨

unlabelledView post →My thanksgiving double feature faves are The Ice Storm and American Movie
unlabelledView post →For awhile there my family had the awesome power of choosing exactly the wrong movie to take my grandmother to after Thanksgiving. After THE ICE STORM (sad swingers, dead kid) and ELIZABETH (opens with a graphic witch burning) my brother and I were like: please consult us first. anyway we're fine
unlabelledView post →Kudos to Ang Lee for also directing Life of Pi, Brokeback Mountain, The Wedding Banquet, The Ice Storm, and Eat Drink Man Woman. He also directed my favorite foreign language film: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. #SenseAndSensibility #TCMParty
unlabelledView post →The best Fantastic Four movie is still THE ICE STORM.
unlabelledView post →It is. I found the movie The Ice Storm (1997) really hits on this. Sigourney Weaver’s character was the epitome of boredom and disconnection.
unlabelledView post →#5CoverSongsSlow 27th David Bowie - I Can’t Read (1997) www.youtube.com/watch?v=a32N... Bowie reworked his 1989 Tin Machine song for Ang Lee’s film The Ice Storm, subduing its raucousness & bringing out the deep sadness & melodic beauty in this song about depression.

unlabelledView post →At this age I thought I'd be drinking Martinis in a house with a shagpile conversation pit and a bunch of keys in a bowl based on what I learned from the movie The Ice Storm.

unlabelledView post →Not a crisis, per se, but a movie that "made me rethink my life" was The Ice Storm. The story helped me make sense of my experience as a tween/teen in the mid to late-70s, including the events that led up to my parents' marriage ending www.imdb.com/title/tt0119...

unlabelledView post →Planes, Trains and Automobiles is rightly heralded as a Thanksgiving classic, but Ang Lee's The Ice Storm deserves to be in the running as one of the greatest Thanksgiving films of all time - an absolute beast of a film that examines family dysfunction in the 1970s. #Thanksgiving
unlabelledView post →Happy Birthday to award-winning actress Sigourney Weaver, born October 8, 1949, in Manhattan, NYC! I'm a big fan of the Ang Lee film The Ice Storm (1997), a tale of suburban ennui. He character "Janey Carver" is quite different from all of the sci-fi heroines she's know for playing. More: alt text

unlabelledView post →Ahh, I recall distinctly that The Ice Storm was my first Katie Holmes experience. Hey, that's a Thanksgiving movie! And a good one, if you're in the mood for a bit of '70s angst.
unlabelledView post →I just remembered how during lockdown I charged a faculty wellness program that was simply virtual movie watch parties… but with a fun (my word) add-on! We watched THE ICE STORM for which I created Dysfunctional Family Bingo And ORCA, where attendees were asked to dress in Arctic Couture.

We offered up hot tea, cocoa, and snacks. 12 attendees— 3 new, 2 my age-ish! Great discussion afterwards. Something I’m proud to host at my local public library.

unlabelledView post →I know that The Ice Storm is the greatest Thanksgiving movie ever made. But let us not forget Jodie Foster's Home for the Holidays, which is so much better than its title might suggest.
unlabelledView post →I thought about watching the movie The Ice Storm before the ice storm takes away my power but sadly it's not streaming for free on any service.
unlabelledView post →I’m watching Ang Lee’s The Ice Storm. I thought of how Tobey Maguire treats the Fantastic 4 like a religious text in this movie as I was cataloging my comics this afternoon. And here we are.
unlabelledView post →Now watching: The Ice Storm (1997) A Thanksgiving movie directed by Ang Lee with baby Elijah Wood talking about how when we smell poop, we’re also, in a small way, eating poop. Oh and David Krumholtz. A perfect film.

Film critic and journalist @tomilaffly.bsky.social was just starting to figure out who she was as a filmgoer in 1997, experiencing the heartache of “Good Will Hunting,” the dark humor of “The Ice Storm,” and the majesty of “Titanic.” buttondown.email/AVeryGoodYea...

unlabelledView post →The Ice Storm is a seriously underrated movie, but it’s not exactly light viewing. Be prepared to be wiped out after you’ve seen it. Definitely worth it though. Good review here.

unlabelledView post →Many years ago I taught film theory college courses and would screen The Ice Storm, as well as Solonz’s Happiness and Haneke’s Funny Games. The late 90s really gave us some wild suburbia movies. I guess that whole decade was a suburban genre.
