unlabelledView post →Have you seen The Grandmaster? It's an ultra modern #wuxia film directed by the iconic Wong Kar Wai. I loved Tony Leung Chiu Wai's choreographed kungfu moves and the moody cinematography, an unmistakable WKW imprint. youtu.be/lqjRZM_5CSA?...

unlabelledView post →Guys, I've been drinking all afternoon because I'm finally on Christmas vacation, but I just watched The Grandmaster for the first time and I think it's the best movie I've ever seen. Me being drunk doesn't feel like an imported factor in this decision but it might be. Cool fucken movie though.
unlabelledView post →Also dope is how the Criterion Channel has The Grandmaster. What makes it so dope? ✅ the Ip Man subject matter ✅ Wong Kar-wai in total command of the movie ✅ that impossibly amazing cinematography ✅ Zhang Ziyi being Zhang Ziyi ✅ Tony ***BY GOD*** Leung
unlabelledView post →The Grandmaster [73] is free on PlutoTV: www.metacritic.com/movie/the-gr... #11pmspecial "There's never been anything like it — a seemingly endless flow of spectacular images in a story about Ip Man (Tony Leung), the legendary kung-fu master who trained Bruce Lee." - Joe Morgenstern, WSJ

unlabelledView post →Seeing Chungking Express again tomorrow as part of "THE GRANDMASTER: TONY LEUNG" at @filmlinc.bsky.social Probably fifth or sixth time seeing it, second in a theater. It's such an odd film and so very oddly compelling. #wongkarwai #tonyleung 📽️
unlabelledView post →Lololol, I'm imagining the likes of Hegseth, Patel, Rubio, Noem & Co sitting uncomfortably through a long, non-optional attendance of an awful, terrible movie full of bullshit and lies, and then having to lie to the Grandmaster of Lies about how great it was. Reap what you sow, bitches!
unlabelledView post →What am I watching next? 🗡️ finishing The Grandmaster (a movie I fell asleep in the middle of right before the woman got to be badass) 🐍 starting When Destiny Brings the Demon 😂 keep watching the two other shows I'm already in the middle of
unlabelledView post →Before delving into the moves, the costume change is very much calling upon the clothing of choice of Bajiquan legend, "God of Spear" Li Shuwen, as well as Tony Leung Chiu-wai' Ip Man in The Grandmaster - a movie about kung fu mastery that features Li Shuwen's pupil, Liu YunQiao.
unlabelledView post →My takeaway was that the sillier Marvel movies need silly or very operatic villains. Lee Pace as Ronan is fantastic. Hela and the Grandmaster were a really fun time. Bale came in with too much pathos and was too terrifying. A waste for what should’ve been a serious villain in a different movie.
unlabelledView post →Anyway I settled on a movie called The Grandmaster… Hopefully it’s good.
unlabelledView post →Still playing catch up, my review is up for #whatif Iron Man crashed into the Grandmaster? This was a fun one. comicbookclog.com/2025/01/20/w...
unlabelledView post →A friend texted to say “Don’t forget to take care of yourself too”. So I watched Wong Kar-Wai’s “The Grandmaster” because @mubi.bsky.social said it’s leaving in another day. And HOLY SHIT! It just blew my mind in ways I can’t even begin to express… just… wow!
unlabelledView post →THE GRANDMASTER (2013) - a Wong Kar Wai film I suspect I saw in a butchered edit. Didn’t really land for me, though it had some beautiful shots. A spectacle, but not of the adrenaline-pumping mega punch chop kick kind I signed up for.
unlabelledView post →It was indeed very, very good. But see also: 100 YARDS, THE GRANDMASTER, or THE HIDDEN BLADE (not a martial arts film, but has some action).
unlabelledView post →This was a big hit when it came out in Hong Kong. Despite the international acclaim and success of his movies afterwards, WKW didn’t have a bigger movie until his movie THE GRANDMASTER, which is based on the story of…Ip Man. #CultShelf
unlabelledView post →The one in the middle that is hard to read is Ip Man. I was tempted to put Wong Kar Wai's Ip Man movie The Grandmaster, but honestly it's just not the best one.
unlabelledView post →Oh, disappointing to hear about the filmmakers - and yes! Any recent recommendations? I think the most recent martial arts movie I'd seen before this was 'The Grandmaster' (PRC theatrical cut, apparently pretty different in the US release)

unlabelledView post →The Grandmaster is a deeply silly film that takes itself terribly seriously.
unlabelledView post →Share an ACTION movie title that begins with the letter “G” 🎥 G is for… ‘The Grandmaster’ 🖤 #moviesky #filmsky
unlabelledView post →I want him to watch Attrition, a really bad but also very weird film co-starring Louis Fan. Yeah, Steven Seagal saw The Grandmaster and got inspired and wrote the script. (Warning: produced by Bey Logan, but you already crossed the line by watching Seagal films, so shouldn't matter)
unlabelledView post →My fave Ip Man movie is The Grandmaster.
unlabelledView post →Possibly his most notorious example of chopping up a film, I think it’s The Grandmaster more than anything else that earned him the nickname Harvey Scissorfingers. Of course, this was later eclipsed by other nicknames.
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching Wong Kar Wai’s The Grandmaster (2013) on @criterionchannl.bsky.social — and no movie ever felt like it lost 22 minutes like this one. It’s a gorgeous fucking movie, but the editing makes it feel like a gorgeous fucking Mortal Kombat movie. I said it. Now where’s the 130-minute cut?
unlabelledView post →I rated The Grandmaster (2013) 9/10 #IMDb Beautiful and hypnotic No wonder it was Oscar nominated for cinematography. Stunning visuals make this worth the watch alone. My first Wong Kar Wai film Tony Leung and Ziyi Zhang are phenomenal. #CritetionChannel #moviesky #movies

unlabelledView post →In all honesty, I feel a lot less bad about "The Grandmaster" being my guilty-pleasure Wong Kar Wai film now, because Ashes of Time is also an attempt at a kung fu movie and well.. it makes you appreciate that The Grandmaster is pretty much just better at it?
unlabelledView post →Question for accumulated Bluesky #kungfu nous: Which version of Wong Kar-wai’s very excellent film “The Grandmaster” has the dream-sequence ending where Ip Man and Gong Er spar through a swinging door? I saw this on a China Eastern flight from Shanghai to Beijing once… #grandmaster #wongkarwai
unlabelledView post →The Grandmaster (2013, d. Kar Wai) Amazing, beautiful film that combines great action scenes with emotional love scenes as Tony Leung and Zhang Ziyi fall for each other despite that he’s happily married. 1/2
unlabelledView post →SO weird. I hope you’ve seen The Grandmaster, the Tony Leung Ip Man movie
unlabelledView post →Watching Wong Kar Wai’s The Grandmaster. 1) every time I watch a martial arts movie I think “what if I gave it all up and just studied fighting? How many hobbies does a man need?” 2) Tony Leung Chiu-wai is so hot 3) I’m so glad we got Donnie Yen and Tony both as Ip Man
unlabelledView post →THE GRANDMASTER is an absolutely beautiful film. If there are flaws, they lie only that it tries to be too ambitious in retelling a life's story (technically two, in places) in 108 minutes. Criterion friends, do gonwatch if you haven't already.

unlabelledView post →The Grandmaster has Ziyi Zhang, Tony Leung, and Baguazhang (my favorite) vs Hsing-I. Such a gorgeous film, but please do not watch The Grandmaster if you are in the throes of a seasonal depression, because Wong Kar-wai will destroy what remains of your heart
unlabelledView post →Ok. Last movie from his filmography I have access to. Time for Wong Kar-wai’s take on the story of Ip Man. Now watching: The Grandmaster
unlabelledView post →Dec 18: Snowflake ❄️ #Bales2022FilmChallenge #FilmMastodon 📽️ 🎬 @bales1181 #TheGrandMaster (2013) The story of martial-arts master Ip Man, the man who mentored #BruceLee. A majestic fight in the snow-swept landscapes of Northeast #China at a train station with #ZiyiZhang
unlabelledView post →To elaborate: technically, "The Grandmaster" is of course impressive. But the film frustrated me and got me feeling WKW had wasted so much time, money, acting talent, etc. So much so that I have stopped looking forward to new works by him. As well as feel no compulsion to rewatch the film.
unlabelledView post →Watched (rewatched?) The Grandmaster for what feels like the first time and the fight choreography is still mind-blowing. I still can't get over how elegant and regal Zhang Ziyi was as Gong Er. Such a great martial arts film.
unlabelledView post →Watched The Grandmaster the other night. It's a Kung Fu movie but since it's directed by Wong Kar-wai the first 1/3 is set in a 1930s brothel just so he could show 1000 elaborate dresses.
unlabelledView post →TONIGHT is our one-night-only show of what is currently Wong Kar Wai's newest feature film, 2013's Ip Man tale THE GRANDMASTER, playing at 7:00pm! Starring Tony Leung and Zhang Ziyi. No trailers, but Film Series director Pete Timmermann will do a quick intro of five minutes or less.
unlabelledView post →I do think I need to rewatch The Grandmaster, though. I, um, definitely fell asleep a few times (because I am a tired baby all the time right now). I kept going back to rewatch the bits I fell asleep for, but it probably ruined the flow. A cool movie to watch after seeing Ip Man a few months ago.
