What people are saying
A written summary appears once the title has a score.
Critics, per Wikipedia
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 48% of 23 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6/10. Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 44 out of 100, based on five critics, indicating "mixed or average" reviews. Robert Daniels of RogerEbert.com gave the film two out of four stars and wrote, "Van Der Beek keeps the film interesting and guarded, even when it tries so hard to blurt out its every theme and lesson. So while The Gates itself isn't a total smash, it's a more than sturdy final effort from a beloved actor."

Stalin would find today's Russian army to be brutal and wasteful.

positive · AI labelView post →Just went upstairs to find my grandpa watching a movie. The screen featured what appeared to be a POV of a sniper scope and I asked “is this Enemy at the Gates?” He responded “how the hell did you know that!?” Eventually I’ll have to try to explain what the movie gets wrong about the actual history

There's only one problem: doing so could mean Mister Toad doesn't show up for a lot of episode 1. AND WE WANT TOAD.

The GWOT drone campaigns might have been a bit like an office job with extra murder, but a drone movie set in Ukraine would/should be spiritually closer to things like the sniper combat in Enemy at the Gates. Hopefully with better research than Enemy at the Gates.

A neat story, marred by uneven pacing and a climax that could have more impact. The final scene gives a decent payoff, though. A good, but not great, movie.
