Beautifully-filmed literate masterpiece succeeds on character, performance, emotion. Intimate epic, complex & adult. #filmsky 📽

THE ENGLISH PATIENT flopped quickly at my competitor in 1997, but I booked it because of numerous customer requests: We got it before the Oscar nominations and made an absolute fortune with it.

unlabelledView post →The English Patient. I found the movie just uninteresting and exhausting to get thru. I fell asleep watching it twice in film class. Professor woke me both times due to snoring. He later asked what was most positive about it? Good movie if you want to fall deep asleep. He gave me a 🤨.

unlabelledView post →There was a 3$ second run theater in NYC in the 1990s where you could also just wander into another movie. I remember seeing The English Patient and then sneaking into The Long Kiss Goodnight after EP ended as a cleanse, and emerging from the 2nd going “At least I saw one good amnesia movie today.”

unlabelledView post →The English Patient was a horribly overrated movie about how it’s ok to be a nazi collaborator for love.
unlabelledView post →It’s a British film, though. KST is still working today. Fiennes has a normal body shape in the English Patient. Whereas just look at Hugh Jackman in the early 2000s vs Jackman in the 2010s.
