Third game in the first trilogy of adaptations in the 90s of Germany's Das Schwartze Auge (The Dark Eye) TTRPG and 'Adventuria' campaign setting. 📺: Shadows Over Riva, 1996 (DOS)

If you're a sicko who loves The Dark Eye, Cosmology of Kyoto, and Gadget this is a game you can really sink your teeth into.

I'm wearing the production hat, which I think shows in the final product. Good news: I will only suck less at this as time goes on.

unlabelledView post →I never thought in a hundred years this game would come out on Steam. Not sure why they changed the title from "The Dark Eye" to "Edgar Allan Poe's Interactive Horror 1995 Edition" (rolls right off the tongue, doesn't it?) but this will still be worth getting store.steampowered.com/app/4289030/...

Ever wanna play an eerie horror game based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe populated by weird claymation puppets and narrated at points by every young person's favorite uxoricidal writer William S. Burroughs? Wait, why are you walking away? This thing's legitimately good!
unlabelledView post →Not to mention, if there is an original non-english audio track, I prefer to use that + subs. Example game: Das Schwarze Auge (The Dark Eye): River of Time. The english version of that game SUCKS. And don't get me started on a lot of jRPGs...
unlabelledView post →I did start in 2013/2014 and my first game was the Dark Eye 5th Edition Beta! However if you want to know the real truth, it was a hack of all of the Dark Eye Editions combined from memory on a week long school trip that a friend had crafted to get us all to start playing... safe to say.. it worked

It used to be the most played tabletop game in Germany for ages, it still might be. You definitely use the mechanics but the mechanical complexity during creation is just crazy

unlabelledView post →This is scarily true. First experience playing a TTRPG was "The Dark Eye" (a very crunchy, German game) in the 90s and it was basically a big "Yike". Would never recommend to start with! I'd probably suggest "Into the Odd", pbta or Mutant Year Zero engine games (Dragonbane f.e) as recommendation.

Oh, and it's all stop motion puppets. Weird? Yes! Also unique. No "puzzles" as such, more figuring out where to go and what to click to proceed.
