neutral · AI labelView post →Try something different--and then be true to your vision. Jim Henson went from the Muppets to something completely new and daring with THE DARK CRYSTAL. And he was absolutely committed to getting his vision on film, even when others didn't quite see it. Or get it. /12
neutral · AI labelView post →Another cool detail in a Henson film is in The Dark Crystal. The Skesis have a barely noticeable set of vestigial arms on their backs, showing their relationship to the (much more clearly) four-armed Mystics.

neutral · AI labelView post →This December in the Deadlights Theater, it's a full month of fantasy film ranging from classic sword and sorcery to surrealist hallucinations. Beginning with... 12/1: THE DARK CRYSTAL 12/4: VALERIE & HER WEEK OF WONDERS 12/8: POOR THINGS 12/11: HOLY MOUNTAIN
neutral · AI labelView post →I'd like to submit The Secret of NIMH and The Dark Crystal for inclusion in the traumatic childhood movie bracket. Between tiny mice drowning in their own home and draining the life force of scared little puppets, they both left a hell of a scorch mark.
neutral · AI labelView post →Up at 5 am, which isn't bad, insomnia wise. Lucked out & The Dark Crystal was starting on a live streaming channel. The bonkers Jim Henson fantasy film from 1982. Basically a Muppets meets the Hobbit. Released when I was in college. I saw this in the theater! Been meaning to re-watch it for years.

neutral · AI labelView post →It was a honour to help Brian & Wendy Froud (artists, folklorists, and the puppet film designers behind The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth) to turn their vision for this book into reality. Happy Book Publication Day to both of them, and to all the brilliant women writers who contributed to the volume.

neutral · AI labelView post →You might know that Jim Henson's fantasy classic #TheDarkCrystal is available to stream on Peacock, The Roku Channel, and Tubi — but did you know that @shoutstudios.bsky.social just dropped the original making-of documentary "The World of The Dark Crystal" for free on YouTube? Well, now you do!

Henson was the force behind Sesame Street, The Muppet Show, The Muppet Movie, Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, The Labyrinth, and Yoda. He sadly passed away at the age of 53.

neutral · AI labelView post →There are two kinds of janky roadside motels... one is the one you'd encounter with mold and syringes and dried cum, on nearly any roadside today, and I hope you remembered the plastic bag for the remote. The other is the Howard Johnson your family stayed at in 1987 somewhere in Wisconsin, where indeed to this day, the A/C still comes out at -10* F and smells like cigarette-tinged adventure. Later you'll watch the Dark Crystal on the in-room HBO and be terrified for weeks.

unlabelledView post →We're now starting on The Dark Crystal. We saw the original 1982 film last night - insane production values, absolutely whips imo. Really curious to see how the series fares, even if just from a technical standpoint.
unlabelledView post →Picking a random film from my collection to show off for no real reason! Day #150 "The Dark Crystal" (Jim Henson and Frank Oz/1982) Absolutely wonderful and surprisingly dark for a children's fantasy movie. That was the 80s for you, no hand-holding here. Henson's puppet creations are like no other.

I watched the Dark Crystal and all kinds of dark fantasy, but mum said The Labyrinth was actually the devils work and banned me.

unlabelledView post →THE DARK CRYSTAL is a family film that could’ve possibly only happened in the ‘80s. Ravishingly beautiful and strikingly dark. Jim Henson and Frank Oz’s craft and fidelity to Brian Froud’s visual ideas remains astonishing.
unlabelledView post →I’m so tired of what “Tangled” did to animated film titles- I want! to know!! what the film is about!!! I want it to make sense in a verbal sentence without saying “Have you seen THE MOVIE tangled??” Ffs if The Dark Crystal came out today it would be called “Cracked” or something RELEASE US

unlabelledView post →Film? If we're only talking stuff Henson directed, I love love love The Great Muppet Caper, but The Dark Crystal is an incredible cinematic accomplishment. Show? It's *gotta* be The Muppet Show! Fraggle Rock and The Storyteller were something special, though. Character: It's always been Rowlf!
