The Black Phone
Finney Blake, a shy but clever 13-year-old boy, is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of little use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney. From TMDB

So fortunate to have been able to interview him a couple of years ago for THE BLACK PHONE. 🎥 #filmsky #criterionchannel
unlabelledView post →Tonight we watched “The Black Phone.” Not a scary movie, or even something I’d consider horror. Maybe suspense with a supernatural flair. A little slow, but enjoyable. Bosco did not enjoy the big dog toward the end.
unlabelledView post →The Black Phone in the Cinema Nova foyer at @offscreenff.bsky.social (La Cabina = the short film that traumatised a generation of Spaniards & anyone else who saw it) There was screaming.
unlabelledView post →I'd point out the trailer for The Gorge, “a high-action, genre-bending love story”, sort of sci-fi movie directed by @scottderrickson.bsky.social (The Black Phone) that will be available on February 14 on AppleTV+, but it gives away too much of the story. 😅 www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUSd...
unlabelledView post →I'm skeptical about The Black Phone 2 since the first one was a B+ movie with an A+ villain performance, but the choice to just turn the Grabber into Freddy Krueger is a good one. leave the old premise behind. This is Nightmare on Grabber Street now
unlabelledView post →My ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review of THE BLACK PHONE boxd.it/eoDqnr Grungy & dangerous 70s aesthetic feels very authentic, even when merged with more outlandish supernatural elements. Smarter than expected screenplay. Mason Thames & Madeleine McGraw are terrific, giving film surprising emotional impact. #filmsky 📽

unlabelledView post →A big happy 20th birthday to the Exorcism of Emily Rose, which hit theaters today in 2005! The mix of supernatural horror and legal drama was the breakout film for director Scott Derrickson of Sinister and The Black Phone fame. #Filmsky #ExorcismOfEmilyRose #Horrorsky
unlabelledView post →I loved The Black Phone, a brilliant self contained horror movie. But do we really need a sequel? Pretty sure there’s a few other books we can adapt.
unlabelledView post →If you like character driven stories how can you not love this movie. I love Finn, Gwen, Robin, the boys (dead or alive) working together. The atmosphere is great. It's a coming of age story and story about family. #filmsky My ★★★★★ review of The Black Phone on @letterboxd: boxd.it/boEySl
unlabelledView post →The Black Phone was a pretty damn good horror movie but I don't understand this sudden push to make The Black Phone a big icon I've been seeing recently

unlabelledView post →This came up on the RLM re:View, but it is so bizarre seeing Chucky among what are being billed as horror "icons." I'll grant you Freddy Fazbear is, at this point, fairly iconic (although that is due in no part to the film adaptation), but the guy from the Black Phone??
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching The Black Phone (2021). Director: Scott Derrickson. Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames. Never got around to sequel, so refreshing on original in an attempt to do so this weekend. Damn, Ethan...looking pretty rough & that nickname, "The Grabber," is a little on-the-nose. #filmsky 📽
unlabelledView post →Books to films 📚=🎞️ The Black Phone (2005) is a short story by Joe Hill from 20th Century Ghosts & was filmed in 2021. The film significantly expands the story by adding more past victims of the Grabber. The supernatural/psychic component is also given greater prominence. 🖤☎️👦 #filmsky #booksky

unlabelledView post →I am watching the movie The Black Phone for the first time, and I never saw a review sayng that what this movie is REALLY GOOD at depicting is the semi-feral lives of 1970s children. It's not that adults mostly didn't mean well. It's just that... standards were different.
unlabelledView post →The Black Phone - 5/10 Feels like someone's first horror movie. Very amateur writing at times and some really stupid twists, but a solid enough premise. The escape room parts are engaging and The Grabber was fun, so I kinda wish that was the whole movie.
unlabelledView post →The first half of THE BLACK PHONE 2 is one of the best horror sequels around. Then the movie lurches to a damn near halt, struggles to regain momentum, and trips - repeatedly - into potholes of exposition, retcons and rules. It averages out in the end but it came SO CLOSE to greatness. My review:
unlabelledView post →I’ve got a big weekend ahead: the Tennessee Pow Wow here in Nashville, the Knoxville Horror Film Fest, including MOTHER OF FLIES by @adamsfamfilms.bsky.social, and the pièce de résistance… opening night of THE BLACK PHONE 2, sequel to the best horror film of 2022!
unlabelledView post →100% the most shocking thing about that movie The Black Phone was that a magician owned 2 houses
unlabelledView post →Super disappointed by The Black Phone 2... Don't get me wrong, it was a decent movie on its own, but as a sequel to the original, it lost the majesty of the first. The first was scary because it was so real. The second was... A horror movie montage.
unlabelledView post →When A Certain Person was making a crusade about how The Black Phone, a movie set in the '70s, was "homophobic" because the hero girl calls a bully a "cocksucker" while she tries to fight him, I thought I was going to fucking explode.
unlabelledView post →The soundscape (in a 2025 film) that knocked me out more than any other: The Black Phone 2. Audio design/score elevated the horror into something transcendent.
unlabelledView post →It is also like saying “I didn’t think this movie was great so this cannot be true.” I didn’t love The Black Phone either and I have people every damn week tell me I’m WRONG but I never thought that was a conspiracy… Wait.. 🤔

unlabelledView post →Great movie. Love the Black Phone. #Frightclub #TheBlackPhone
unlabelledView post →The Black Phone (2022) was an emotionally heartfelt and thrilling horror movie that's about the profound themes of trying to confront and overcome your own traumas and fears. As we get to see Finney and Gwen deal with their own struggles and pain from their parents acting abusive towards them.
unlabelledView post →Time for breakfast and a movie! Today's breakfast is frosted mini wheats, no milk. 🤪 And todays randomly selected movie is... Nice, a horror movie. And I've actually already seen the sequel. It sucked. 🤣 But let's give this one a go. The Black Phone, 2022
unlabelledView post →The Black Phone movies are surprisingly good. Really simple premise (stuff you’ve seen before) buoyed by strong performances. And stylistically, I love the use of film grain for certain sequences.

unlabelledView post →I was hoping I'd enjoy The Black Phone 2 more than the first, which really did nothing for me. I didn't. Gwen's dreams are the highlight of the film thanks to the Super 8 camera they filmed with. Unfortunately, a lot of this movie just doesn't make any sense. >

unlabelledView post →So in Hill's story collection I didn't think there was much to the Black Phone - and they bulked it up a ton to make it work as film - but THIS ONE was effin freaky. Weird, unreliable, gory - this could be great!

unlabelledView post →Heard a lot of good things about The Black Phone so I gave it a go on Film 4 just now and yes, it’s very good indeed.
unlabelledView post →The Whisper Man (2026) is an old school 90s serial killer thriller. Think Silence of the Lambs, or 2013's Prisoners, with a little bit of The Black Phone thrown it. Its mystery is pretty easily to solve early tbh, but the movie is elevated by a great cast and fantastic tension building! 👍
unlabelledView post →A Quiet Place apparently started off as a Cloverfield sequel/spin-off, meaning there might be only two good movies total in that six-film "series." DUNE² > DUNE¹ The Black Phone rang mostly true. Phantasm feels like an Elm Street precursor. #letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched #lastninewatched
