The Black Cauldron
Taran is an assistant pigkeeper with boyish dreams of becoming a great warrior. However, he has to put the daydreaming aside when his charge, an oracular pig named Hen Wen, is kidnapped by an evil lord known as the Horned King. The villain hopes Hen will show him the way to The Black Cauldron, which has the power to create a giant army of unstoppable soldiers. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →40 years ago today THE BLACK CAULDRON was released in theaters, marking a low point in the Bronze Age of Walt Disney Animation Studios. Despite its beautiful animation & rich Lloyd Alexander source material, its box office failure caused this underrated film to be buried for over a decade.
unlabelledView post →I know The Black Cauldron isn’t everyone’s fave, but I found it to be the most fascinating Disney flick for just how much quality went into a film that was so mid, and for just what they snipped out of the final product youtu.be/SzVOpGgyqJE?...
unlabelledView post →1985 is the year Disney famously released the not-at-all traumatizing animated film The Black Cauldron.
unlabelledView post →To celebrate Disney's #100th anniversary, let's not forget this underrated movie which came out after The Black Cauldron debacle and was the first one to save Disney. #greatmousedetective If not for it doing well, Disney Studios might have closed!
unlabelledView post →The Black Cauldron is honestly one of the best Disney animated movies. I feel like if it had been released a little later it would have done a lot better, audiences just weren't looking for a dark and scary Disney movie at the time. I love that it's the black sheep of Disney movies. Great film.
unlabelledView post →The Great Mouse Detective would also be an important film for Disney being their first box office success following the disaster of the Black Cauldron helping prevent Walt Disney Animation's closure and setting the stage for the Disney Renaissance
unlabelledView post →Outside of The Black Cauldron, is there any Disney film with less of a cultural pop culture footprint that Basil The Great Mouse Detective? I love that movie, but there is almost nothing from #Disney to celebrate it! #JusticeForBasil 40th anniversary
unlabelledView post →I would love a live action adaptation of either The Book of Three or The Black Cauldron (an adaptation of the books, not the animated movie)! It's my understanding that Disney optioned the Prydain books when they did the live action A Wrinkle in Time, but haven't yet done anything with the rights.

I love Disney's The Black Cauldron one of my favorites. sadly under-merchandised after the film didn't do well with profits.

unlabelledView post →My weirdest one is the theatrical release of The Black Cauldron. My dad and I just kept going back again. It probably made me like this. Now, before you're like "really? That movie is trash", please know that they later cut out about 70% of the scary parts which took 40% of the sense with it.

unlabelledView post →Honestly, if there is one movie I think SHOULD get remade, it is absolutely The Black Cauldron! The 1985 film barely scratched the surface of The Chronicles of Prydain books, even with all of the nightmare fuel and divergences from the usual Disney mold. There is so much untapped potential there!

Mulan is considered a Disney princess^TM despite not actually having the title, as is Alice (some random girl), Pocahontas (chieftain's daughter, which I guess you can argue is a similar concept), Moana (see above), Mirabel (another random girl without a position of authority), Tinker Bell, Jane Porter (although she is a noble, which is at least similar) and Megara. (From *Hercules*, in case you also forget that movie…

unlabelledView post →Disney's The Black Cauldron. Apparently it was so bad it like...almost killed off Disney animation for good? But I loved that shit as a kid. No idea why we had it, either. I was born almost a decade after it came out. Eilonwy deserves her place with the Disney Princesses, damn it!

unlabelledView post →He also haphazardly cut bits from 'The Black Cauldron' because it was too scary for kids, even though the film was intended for an older audience anyway. What's left of what was cut looked pretty badass too!
unlabelledView post →Fun fact: My dad used movie theaters as de facto daycare and one time dropped me off so I had to sit through The Black Cauldron FIVE TIMES IN A ROW. This explains literally everything about the person I have become.
unlabelledView post →This great article about Disney's adaptation of The Black Cauldron, which bombed so hard it almost killed the animation studio itself, made me remember one of those useless bits of gaming trivia: the final boss from Land of Illusion on the Master System is the villain from the film, the Horned King!
unlabelledView post →I recently acquired the Sierra and Walt Disney Personal Computer Software point and click adventure “The Black Cauldron” based on the animated movie of the same name. I remember playing this on somebody’s Tandy 1000 way back when, but I never had it for my #AtariST. Maybe I’ll play it again.

AND ONE OF MY FRIENDS SAID "THE BLACK CAULDRON."

unlabelledView post →TRIVIA: 'The Black Cauldron' was the first Disney movie to feature the "classic" Walt Disney Pictures logo: the white castle and text over a blue field. This logo was until the new CGI logo was introduced in 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' in 2006. (IMDB) 🖤
unlabelledView post →Hell, The Chronicles of Prydain came out in the 60s and the only film or show adaptation we gotten out of it is fuckin' Disney's The Black Cauldron.
unlabelledView post →For example: it’s kind of wild that Disney never remade The Black Cauldron. Lends itself more to live-action, and you’re likely not in danger of alienating fans of the film. But then, the box office is massive enough for L&S that Disney couldn’t possibly care about the critiques now. Alas.

And I was keen on The Black Cauldron, too. Metal as fuck. I was all about the more wayward, unconventional picks. [shrugs]

THE LITTLE MERMAID was a sea change (natch) but is one of the weaker films of the '80s/'90s Renaissance. THE BLACK CAULDRON needs a live-action remake.
