60 of 160 · most liked firstStill makes me chuckle… Miriam Margolyes on The Age of Innocence: ‘I said to Mr Scorsese ‘Why do you have so many English actors in this? Why are you making a film about posh types when your milieu has always been the criminal gangs of New York?’ And he said ‘Because I’m interested in brutality.’
unlabelledView post →I've no desire to watch the Sex Purge movie, but the ungloving scene in Scorsese's THE AGE OF INNOCENCE or so much of Wong Kar-wai's work shows that you can make movies without nudity or sex sensual, romantic, and horny as all hell too. A lot of modern mainstream movies just feel glossily insensate.
unlabelledView post →and now it is Martin Scorsese's birthday, so here's my essay on The Age of Innocence, a contender for my favorite Scorsese movie www.patreon.com/posts/age-of...
unlabelledView post →A half-year of Martin Scorsese on Blank Check. Gonna be good. Soon, the podcast listening world will know that Marty has made more than just mob movie and actually has an incredibly varied filmography, which include movie like Kundun, and the Age of Innocence.
unlabelledView post →on some days i can argue The Age of Innocence is the best film ever made
unlabelledView post →My ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ review of THE AGE OF INNOCENCE boxd.it/eDQ949 Precise & gorgeous dissection of New York's Gilded Age is Scorcese at his most subtle. Yearning, hypocrisy, scandal...Day-Lewis & Pfeiffer are doomed by society's double standard & stacked cast is flawless. #filmsky 📽 Criterion Collection 913
unlabelledView post →Four favorites with birthday boy (11/17) Martin Scorsese! What do you choose? Mine: 1) Taxi Driver (1976) 2) Goodfellas (1990) 3) The Age of Innocence (1993) 4) After Hours (1985) #filmsky 📽🎥
unlabelledView post →The Age of Innocence and Kundun are probably tied for my favorite Scorsese film - with After Hours close behind
unlabelledView post →Anyone whining that “he makes the same movie over and over again” should be required to watch a triple bill of New York New York, The Age of Innocence, and Kundun and then sign an apology form
unlabelledView post →Books to Films 📚=🎞️ The Age of Innocence (1921) by Edith Wharton was adapted in 1924, '28, '34 & '93 (by Martin Scorsese). The '93 version is the most acclaimed & faithful with changes. Both deal with social norms, yet the film adds layers of complexity to all the characters. 🎩💔🔺 #filmsky #booksky
unlabelledView post →each viewing of The Age of Innocence, i'm only more and more impressed with Winona Ryder, who delivers perhaps the canniest performance in the film. the willfully naive wife of the man yearning for another woman.
unlabelledView post →Martin Scorsese (with scenes from his film "The Age of Innocence") - BOTD
unlabelledView post →KIRK GOLDSBERRY: I'll be honest with you, Zach Lowe. This reputation that Martin Scorsese, the director of Kundun and also The Age of Innocence, is mainly a mob movie guy. Frankly, it's silly, and I'm sure you agree. ZACH LOWE: The Aviator... What makes someone an aviator? Isn't that just a pilot?
unlabelledView post →Though some of his best-known films are undeniably in the mob/crime genre, film director Martin Scorsese actually has an incredibly varied filmography that includes such disparate films as Kundun and The Age of Innocence.
unlabelledView post →#NowWatching THE AGE OF INNOCENCE (1993). Director: Martin Scorsese. Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer. Before old Marty was stumping for A.I., he meticulously crafted this stunning & sumptuous adaptation of Edith Wharton. A fave...rewatch...I just wanted to say sumptuous. 🤪 #filmsky 📽
unlabelledView post →these people are ultimately all full of shit. And when Scorsese began his career I don't think the other white males in Hollywood thought of him as a fellow "white male". I saw reviews of The Age of Innocence that basically called him a paisan for daring to make a movie about the upper classes
unlabelledView post →The Age of Innocence has certainly started getting its due in recent years, but still not enough. Scorsese's best film or not (and truly, it might be), it's one that anybody with any interest in or passion for cinema absolutely must see. an incredible demonstration of the form and its possibilities.
unlabelledView post →jesus The Age of Innocence is a great movie
unlabelledView post →A favorite film that starts with the letter “A” #filmsky The Age of Innocence, 1993
unlabelledView post →Miriam Margolyes - 📽️ The Age of Innocence (Martin Scorsese, 1993) This BAFTA-winning role in the great Scorsese film is a funny, droll exercise in excess. Margolyes’ period delivery and laughter is one of many reasons more people should see it (and her hysterical stories about it on Graham Norton).
unlabelledView post →now to decide on my first movie of 2026 considering The Age of Innocence, since it's been a minute
unlabelledView post →THE AGE OF INNOCENCE is a perfect book and an excellent movie but Newland Archer is comically terrible at trying to conduct a secret affair
unlabelledView post →I was born in 1980... I'm choosing one movie per day from each year to today. The Age of Innocence The hard & natural lighting pulls you back into the time and into the space of that period… plus, you can feel the dust in this movie… 🎬🎥🍿 #filmsky #moviesky #moviechallenge Day 14/45 1993
unlabelledView post →only film I would have loved to see today in the Alexis Smith lineup is THE AGE OF INNOCENCE (1993)...she still looked terrific in this! #TCMParty #SummerUnderTheStars

unlabelledView post →Just happened to rewatch THE AGE OF INNOCENCE a few days ago, and we had TAXI DRIVER at Film Society earlier this year. Anyone seriously asserting Scorsese only discovered the spiritual sickness of American white men after a dose of woke mind worms? Leave your critic card on the nightstand and GO.
unlabelledView post →What we commend as ‘real’ in life as in film—and perhaps in Scorsese’s films in particular—we might call gritty, dark, or uncompromising; THE AGE OF INNOCENCE proposes otherwise. What could be more violent than a life sculpted by compromise?”
unlabelledView post →The ungloving scene in The Age of Innocence is one of the absolute sexiest moments in film history as far as I'm concerned, and was one of the things that taught me that sex, sexiness, longing, and desire extend so far and so beautifully beyond two naked bodies
unlabelledView post →I’m about to watch The Age of Innocence, my fifth ever Scorsese film. I assume it’s going to be the same vibe as After Hours, which I just watched last month, since it’s the same director and all
unlabelledView post →thank you for helping me understand why, as someone who loves Scorsese and all the lead actors in The Age of Innocence, and who understands it is an exquisitely crafted film, it didn’t hit for me: it is simply Too Protestant i like my Marty pictures as Catholic as possible
unlabelledView post →tonight's movie was The Age of Innocence. i love a beautiful movie about people who suck
unlabelledView post →guy who’s only seen The Age of Innocence, watching his second Scorsese movie: hm not getting a lot of Scorsese vibes from this

unlabelledView post →The only NYC area "power throuple" we should be talking about are Daniel Day Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Winona Ryder in Martin Scorsese's 1993 film The Age of Innocence
unlabelledView post →To put that last remark in context: In his early 30s, Elmer Bernstein wrote the epic score for Cecil B. DeMille's THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (1956); in 1993, at 71, the music for Martin Scorcese's THE AGE OF INNOCENCE, and kept at it up until 2002. 3/13 #filmsky #moviesky #botd #musicsky #filmscore
unlabelledView post →Margret's dress is based on Winona Ryder's gown from "The Age of Innocence" and Thomas is styled after Clark Gable, who won best actor for "It Happened One Night" at the 11th Oscars. That's one of the only movies to achieve a clean sweep of every category it was up for! Lovely film.
unlabelledView post →Good thread! Gif from The Age of Innocence, which makes me want to make a tie-in point: Edith Wharton (from whom this movie is adapted) is really overlooked as a chronicler of America specifically. I have a whole soapbox about The Custom of the Country being a real Great American Novel candidate
unlabelledView post →Being a contrarian and insisting The Age of Innocence is the best Scorsese movie
unlabelledView post →More and more I think about one of the biggest themes and plot points of The Age Of Innocence The whole movie is about two characters in 1890s aristocratic New York having an affair while in polite society. They think they’re getting away with it, feeling all the pain of secrecy and lying
unlabelledView post →I had a professor in undergrad for a 19th c. women's lit course who hated The Age of Innocence but felt like we needed to know about it, so she lowkey just told us to watch the Winona Ryder film instead.
unlabelledView post →This penultimate chapter of The Age of Innocence unfolds almost like a horror movie. That line about “the old New York way of taking life ‘without effusion of blood’”! 🏹
unlabelledView post →Rewatching "The Age of Innocence," and I love almost* everything about this movie, it is timeless and beautiful and touching. *The stupid "Blenker" subplot w/Scorsese's daughter can eat shit.

unlabelledView post →My husband grumbled during the flower shop scene in The Age of Innocence (set in the early 1900's). When I asked him about it after the movie, he complained that the shop had Stargazer lilies, which weren't developed until the 1950's.
unlabelledView post →First of all, yes, The Age Of Innocence is great. Second of all, Quentin Tarantino's only *good* movie, never mind great, is Jackie Brown. (Reservoir Dogs is... fine.)
unlabelledView post →It’s like when people who have clearly never seen The Age of Innocence or After Hours say Scorsese makes the same movie over and over again.
unlabelledView post →Louis Auchincloss the movie reviewer, from his Paris Review conversation with George Plimpton. I agree with Auchincloss about Scorsese’s The Age of Innocence, though I haven't, like him, written a biography of Edith Wharton.
unlabelledView post →Alexis Smith was a fantastic actress. She ended her film career in Scorsese’s ‘The Age of Innocence.’ Unfortunately she’s used in this film like Vera Miles was in Psycho, the adult sister who gets to break the case. #TCMParty #Conflict
unlabelledView post →Yelling at Zach about how he needs to watch THE AGE OF INNOCENCE and then I’ll watch a movie of his choice but that’s the best Scorsese
unlabelledView post →#TCMFF screening thought: THE AGE OF INNOCENCE at Grauman's I would *love* to see that film on the big screen!
unlabelledView post →2/7. The film starts at a performance of Verdi’s Il Trovatore - a sequence that's a clear influence on Scorsese’s THE AGE OF INNOCENCE (1993). It acts like a foregrounding of the tone of the entire film which is not unlike an opera without arias.
unlabelledView post →film i encountered in a dream: The Age of Innocence (1993), except it's softcore and instead of Michelle Pfeiffer being Daniel Day-Lewis’ wife’s cousin, she's his stepmother. same cast, same stunning cinematography.
unlabelledView post →Daniel Day-Lewis & Winona Ryder star in Martin Scorsese’s lavish adaptation of Edith Wharton’s THE AGE OF INNOCENCE. See it tonight in 4K in our new series Something Borrowed, Something Blue, a multi-week cinematic journey through the stages of marriage. www.paristheaternyc.com/film/the-age...

unlabelledView post →I’m watching the Mr. Scorsese doc and actually cheered when @markharris.bsky.social showed up talking about Goodfellas and The Age of Innocence. Is this the film nerd version of a Swiftie-like parasocial relationship? 😆

unlabelledView post →She crazy but this photo ☠️ Winona Ryder, circa 1990. my recommended film of hers actually might surprise you. 1993 Martin Scorsese “The Age of Innocence” based on Edith Wharton’s Pulitzer novel. 👍🏻 👍🏻
unlabelledView post →I love that movie as well. Also, The Age of Innocence. Every frame is beautiful, like a masterpiece painting and Joanne Woodward's narration is perfection. But the ending is bittersweet.
